I live in the neighborhood and for as long as this restaurant has been around, I have never eaten there before. I went out to dinner with a friend of mine who happens to be a Vegan and I know that Indian cuisine is very accommodating to someone with that kind of lifestyle. So, I was very excited to give it a try. I don't like too spicy food, so, I ordered a lamb dish and the waiter assured me that it wasn't really spicy and it wasn't, so I was happy. The dish was very tasty and my friend enjoyed her vegan dishes as well. The ambience was very nice and the prices were very reasonable. I will definitely be back. Thank you for a great experience.
Wow everything was excellent , I will always recommend this Restaurant.
I was truly amazed by the everything this restaurant had to offer from the ambience, service to the food!!! The menu had unique dishes such as broccoli and peas shammi, kafir lime and basil chicken tikka simply finger licking good. Prices are reasonable and food quality and quantity is excellent. A must try I will be back there with the family very soon.
I generally don't prefer Indian food outside home. Someone suggested this restaurant in Washington.
One of the most authentic Indian food I have ever had. The biryanis, Shrimp peri periperi, aloo sphere chaat, Sweet corn patties, baingan mirch ka salan were extraordinary. Such food is missed in India as well.
Elaichi ice cream was unheard of. Fabulous!!! So was the doda barfi.
Fantastic addition to the waterfront dining scene and the perfect pre-theatre spot for Arena Stage patrons. Upscale service, contemporary interpretations of Indian classics. Biriani (sp?) is best I've ever had, both lamb and chicken. Taj Mahal cocktail is a knock-out. Not cheap but worth it, plan at least $50pp.
The food and service were FANTASTIC! We will definitely be back. Samosas, yellow lentils and breads all great.

Ambience was fantastic ....
I would like to split this review into 3 parts
Atmosphere : This place is very well decorated. Excellent Ambience.
Service: Service is excellent, on time and staff is nice.
Food : Did not meet indian food standards. We ordered Veg thali(did not meet my expectations) thandoori naan ( very dry), daal amritsari(avg taste) and chicken curry( was tangy)
Good ambience, Good service and tasty food.
On time serving and well portioned served for 4 pax.
Please do visit as good option for Vegetarian and vegan also.
I liked the overall wall mounted miniatures and glass windows giving a nice fresh feelings.
The food here is amazing and also the stuff was friendly specially Sara who served me.. i really appreciate the service..
So we had reservations for another resturant parked and walked by and noticed this restaurant. Hubby said he wanted to try it out went to see if there was a wait and it was meant to be because we were seated right away. We canceled our other reservation and it was worthit. The food was amazing. Tasted very fresh and full of flavor. The service was very inviting. We felt welcomed from the moment we walked in. This place is a must try you won't regret it. I had the lamb chops and I still think about every bite. Me and hubby both agreed to be back soon I want to try everything on the menu 😋
A warm welcome from the manager as we entered along with great service and fantastic food made this meal an authentic and memorable experience while visiting DC. So glad we stopped in to check it out.
Absolutely fantastic experience. The owner is incredibly kind and really gets to know the guests. They take care of you and make you feel special for your birthday. The food tastes great and they can adapt the spice level. HIGHLY recommend!
I love Masala Art. The manager is such a kind person & is genuinely invested in making sure his customers have a great experience. I always come for lunch because I work in the area & their reduced lunch menu has something for everyone.
Butter chicken is obviously a reliable & delish staple but the lamb is great. The vibes are very quiet & peaceful because it’s not very busy during lunch, but the emptiness lends itself to a bespoke & attentive experience from the manager.
Love this place & I’ll be a regular for lunch.
Had a fantastic meal here when I was in town for work and looking for a good vegan option. The food was fantastic and service/environment was great as well. I would definitely come back if I am back in town.
Delicious food and the host/manager/owner took special care of our table. We asked for chicken and lamb suggestions and everything was wonderful, especially the lamb skewers, chicken 65, samosas and garlic chili naan. Adding this to my list of DC favorites!
Nice neighborhood restaurant that is close to the DC Waterfront Metro station. Convenient to Arena Stage and the soccer and baseball stadium. I had the Saag Gosht and buttered Naan which was reasonably priced and delicious. The portions are generous so you can skip the appetizers.
What a great eating experience. Artistic decor, great presentation and taste. Some of the best service I’ve had in DC.
Popped in here for an impromptu dinner with a friend and loved it. The service was good and they had fair prices. The dishes we had were filling and delicious. The place is a great vibe in the evening.
Masala Art in Southwest is open for lunch again in the dining room - w00t! My partner and I ate there today, and the food was great, even better than before the pandemic. I love that my vegetable curry came with palak paneer, naan, curried lentils, and rice. It was a lot of food for a great price!

My husband and I have dined and and taken out from Masala Art SW 15+ times. This is our go-to restaurant for not only authentic Indian food but also for consistently good service. My go to meal is the Kafir Lime and Basil Chicken Tikka along with Saag Paneer. Will continue to recommend this awesome restaurant to my friends and family!
Fantastic food with outstanding service. Love going here for a date night or just to enjoy good food with friends and family. If Masala Art isn't on your go to list, I would recommend it.
The highlight of the evening was the ambiance. The statues and jewelry eccentricly positioned throughout was welcoming and interesting ly beautiful. The waiter was attentive and knowledgeable. We didnt have to wait or signal for him. He anticipated our needs. The food was average Indian fare. The samosas were good fried perfectly but lacked a little kick. The amritsari fish tukra left much to be desired. The accompanied sauce made the dish. There was a consensus that agreed the broccoli and peas shammi was bland even with the chutney. It reminded us of a vegetarian filler food. Thw aloo ki chaat was great. The potatoes were cookee perfectly and the sauce was tart sweet and savory. The lamb and chicken tandoori were both aweaome and theres a dish of chicken in sauteed spinach that was perfect. Overall my experience went well enough that I would return and recommend to a friend. Thanks for a decent meal great atmosphere and wonderful service.
Great family owned restaurant. Service was great. Food was excellent and the prices were fair. Easy walk from our hotel in a nice residential area.
Personal, thoughtful service in a gorgeously decorated space—and killer food. Sanjib made us feel at home, table ready when we arrived after calling, and even made sure our parking situation was good. They even threw in an extra dessert when we couldn’t decide which to order—unnecessary and very nice! Loved the 80s feel-good tunes that somehow pumped the good food vibes up to the next level.
