The taco fry bread was good and filling! This cafe offers comfort food that will appeal to the widest tastebuds. For examples the beans and squash made up the base in my chili for my taco fry bread. The foodie in me would have loved to try more than the current fare. Still recommend coming here if you are in the area!
My favorite place to eat at the Smithsonian museums. Excellent food in a nice atmosphere. Admittedly, a little expensive but that is Washington DC for you.
I recommend the Campfire buffalo burger.
Wild rice, 3 bean, and salmon with prickly pear dressing; Yes it is delicious. We love the ambulance. Water flows rite up to your seat. We were very hunger and delighted with good service even thought it was 5 min to closing time. (4pm). The exhibits opon till 5:30. When you order tell them Joe sent you... that's me...😀
Love the variety! Rarely do I see museums that offer anything other than Chicken tenders and fries, so I appreciate the choices. I ended up getting the hanger steak with chimichurri with cilantro-lime rice and sprout salad.
My wife and I stopped in here for food while traveling from the capital building to the George Washington monument. They have multiple food options which is good for large groups. My wife had the chicken quesadilla with quinoa salad. The red salsa was delicious and we ordered fry bread to dip in it. They were very generous with the chicken portion in the quesadilla. Quinoa salad was very refreshing.
Venison sausage was good, as well. The rice was rice. The salad I had was very delicious, sorry don't remember the name of it.
If you're looking for unique food to try for the first time or want something cooked fresh. This is your place. The food was filling without being too much so the wife and I could continue our journey.
It seems that their menu changes with the seasons, so they might not have what we ordered when you go. There were so many other foods that I wanted to try and wish I was staying longer to try more.
Make sure to walk around and check all their food options because they had lamb stew that wasn't on the menu but was offered.
We really enjoyed the three sisters salad, wheat berry salad, and enchilada! The wheat berries were chewy and well-cooked, with a light dressing with the mushrooms, and the beans had a great marinade and balance of textures and flavors.
The jicama salad was alright but I’m pretty sure it gave me mild food poisoning - hard to tell for sure though. I really appreciated the different options, especially the healthy options, and the staff. It was overpriced and the lack of free water made me a little mad (and $4 for a teabag) but I get that’s how they make money. It’s a cool concept for a cafe!
Surprisingly, food at museum's cafeteria can be good. Everything was very well seasoned and delicious. The rib has a sweet taste from the sauce that they brush on top. The salad the comes with it is very good. The goat stew has somewhat a strong goat smell but it is fine for me, and the meat is really soft. Dipping the fry bread in the stew is really tasty. Dessert is the only thing that is disappointing.
A surprisingly good Museum cafe option. The Indian taco on fry bread was very good, and so was the bison burger and fries. There were good options for small kids as well. The cafe got crowded at lunch time, but the cafeteria style service moved quickly. Definitely recommend this museum and cafe!
Best Smithsonian restaurant meal. The hanger steak with chimchurri was outstanding (or at least when I requested medium rare). Worth the wait.
Our smoked salmon on bread with avocado spread was delicious. The two sides, quinoa salad and wild rice salad, were yummy. The portion was quite big, enough for two people. Only $1 7.45 before tax. What a nice surprise for museum food!
