This place is a DC institution for all of the right reasons. It's family-run, completely unpretentious, friendly, and snug. As long as you're not a jerk this place is warm and inviting, and the food's great, as are the prices. I've been coming to Jimmy T's for going on nine years now, and the only complaints have been with annoying DC-types who just don't get it. Cindy and John and their children and staff are like a quirky second family to anyone who will let them be. I'm still amazed, and very happy, that a place like this exists in DC. Come in and see them sometime!
This place literally just made my week. It's so rare to find a spot that is all about taking pride in serving up a good plate of grub with a great smile. No pretense, nothing fancy, no attitude. Just the best of humanity and just the way it should be! Thank you !
I'm sad I didn't come here every week since living on the Hill for two years. Now I'm moving away and I will miss Jimmy T's! The atmosphere, the food, the people: it's a beautiful gem in our neighborhood. Thanks for the hospitality for my short time in DC!
Me and my granddaughter enjoy having breakfast at Jimmy T's, the crew is so friendly and the food is excellent. Granddaughter loves the pancakes and the sausage and gravy biscuit is excellence. John and his family is the best.
Delicious food and wicked cool people!!! John, Cindy, and Kyle, you guys are awesome! Thank you!!
Best breakfast and Lunch in Washington DC. Mon-Fri 6 to 3 and Sat-Sun 8 to 3.
Would go back to Washington just to revisit here.
Been there since before you were born. Neighborly, friendly, comfy, cash-only.
Don't ever eat here. It's terrible... Leave it for me. I like booths. Leave me a booth. xoxo
Best Diner in the US. I LOVE this place! Cynde, John and the kids are wonderful, love them all too.
What a great neighborhood place - do not change anything! The waffle and egg was very good. But what makes this place are the people and atmosphere. It is a small neighborhood diner with a great staff.
We did not have to wait but the line started to grow after we sat down. This is a place to come, sit, and eat. Coffee is good but not the reason you come here. Enjoy the staff.
Fries were cooked to perfection. The tomato omelette was very good, made from grape tomatoes.
This was such a funny place that we stumbled upon. It looks like you've traveled back to 1960. The food is good. It's not spectacular but if you need a quick and cheap breakfast this is your place.
This place was good. Very friendly staff and owner, quick service, well priced. I got the grilled cheese sandwich and it hit the spot. Good ole' comfort food that reminds me of back home. I'll be going back often to have a nice hot meal.
Good Food!. I really liked this place. real Americana try the Grits!
Favorite for great comfort food and comforting. Go every time I get back to DC.
Went for breakfast. Very good. We absolutely loved the people that ran the place and will definitely go back before we go back home. Thoroughly enjoyed
Great local single-top grill that's a Capitol Hill institution. The French toast is a favorite. Also, seasonal omelettes and specials. If you're feeling adventurous, try the Bacon Waffle with maple-bacon-apple butter.
Great little place in a beautiful neighborhood. If you're touring Capital Hill, walk the few blocks over for an affordable meal. The food has a home-cooked quality. The staff and atmosphere made me feel like a local. If I was, I'd start each day here.
Home style diner, super friendly service!
Great food, wonderful owners who care about the food, great neighborhood atmosphere. They should offer REAL maple syrup and I'd show up again.
I thought that Jimmy T’s is a good no-frills place to pick up some breakfast, whether it be on a casual weekend morning or a quick stop on the way to work.
I drove past here a few days ago and was intrigued because I love small breakfast spots. I'm glad I came back. The 3 staff members were very friendly and nice. I will be back for sure as I'm a new resident of DC and I'm trying to make a list of "my go-to spots"!
My family traveled from New Mexico to visit DC. We are foodies. The atmosphere and customer service was perfect! They were kind and had a sense of urgency as well as a relaxed vibe. The breakfast was cooked perfectly. They made my eggs a perfect over medium. (I’m a severely picky about how I like my eggs cooked) all in all this place is awesome. If you want a perfect classic breakfast come here!
An awesome small business and a must try if you’re in DC. I went here after Church knowing it was going to be Cash Only and was a mom and pop small business restaurant. I went in and was greeted by Kyle and I asked him his recommendation. I was thoroughly given a hug by one of the folks which was grateful. The warmth in this place is just delightful. Such good guys, very loving and that makes the experience awesome. The place is of course a little small and there weren’t seats inside but the weather in June was beautiful so I sat outside. The chairs were nice and I got to journal some during my 20 minute wait with some coffee and water. My food came out nice and hot and it was delicious. This is going to be my post Sunday ritual in the time I’m at DC. Meaning to try more food and give updates but for now I had the sausage egg and waffles (no. 3). I had 2 of those and it came up to $17. Amazing price and was pleased with the quality as well. Respect for the business!
Rustic place with damn good breakfast. Simple yet tasty.
Quick service and friendly staff.
Cash only though, so keep that in mind.
You should get a quick brekkie there if you're near.
I was weirded out when I first walked in and saw everything very old and that it was cash only, but after sitting down and greeted by the workers, I immediately felt at easy. The theme was 60s dinner. Cheap, and good tasting breakfast. There is not much parking, and not too many tables. I would give it a try, definitely a hidden gem. Please leave a 👍if this review helped.
We were just visiting in DC, so I don't know if this place is already well known to the DC population, but it was incredible here. The food was affordable yet absolutely delicious, the service was fantastic and fast, and the vibe was just great. I think we even saw Jimmy T himself behind the counter!
Cozy spot with all the feels of southern comfort right in the heart of Capitol Hill.
Quaint little diner on East Cap with a portrait of JFK that you feel was new when the joint first opened. This cash-only establishment has friendly staff and an authentic feel. While the prices aren’t bad at first look, when the food arrives you realize why they’re so low-their plates are one pancake, one egg, one sausage link for $8, and none of those items is large. The food itself is average to slightly above average for a diner. Come here for the atmosphere and then go to Ted’s for a meal.
Authentic breakfast experience. Preserved the old cash register at this cash-only place. Liked the almond milk with coffee and pumpkin waffles. A great place to sit outside on a nice fall day. Recommend getting there before 10am on weekends.
I hadn't been here for years and forgot they were cash only until after ordering. Not only was I not forced to run to an ATM, but told to eat and come back another time with my money. Class that is rare in this world. Plus they still serve a yummy breakfast.
Southern style breakfast menu with lots of options for those seeking something with small town comfort in the city. The device is absolutely great and the food comes out quick. The space is kinda tight but we'll managed.
All of the food was freshly made and delicious! I highly recommend the corned beef hash. The staff was friendly. The place to go if you're looking for casual southern American breakfast in DC! Sat at the bar and didn't have to wait at 11:30 on a Sunday morning!!!
Visiting DC and found this on a nice quiet street near the Capitol building. The location was great, service was fantastic and the food was delicious.
Bring cash as they don't take cards. If you forget, there's an atm the next corner over inside a convenience store.
Small place with limited seating, outdoor patio open when weather permits. Cash only so make sure you have some bills. Food is good for the price and is made up quick
Wonderful little dinner in the heart of DC. The food was excellent and service was good. Will definitely be back in the future! I had the waffle which was as big as the plate with a side of eggs and bacon. Look to spend anywhere from 8-15 dollars a person.
