I come here quite a bit, mainly for breakfast. The restaurant has kind managers, hard working and nice employees, and a good layout. The sandwiches are great. Don't let the seemingly limited menu fool you. You can customize as you'd like.
From the outside the Uptowner seems unassuming. Inside, however, it is a cornucopia of foods. To the left is a salad bar with a little bit of everything: the grilled chicken and fresh beans make for a reasonably priced lunch, $7/lb. The sandwiches are what makes the Uptowner special. Everyday they have a fresh roasted turkey that is carved for your order. Be sure to get a pickle to share. It could feed a family. Grab a cookie for a sweet bite later in the day, or a protein bar. Plan ahead for you afternoon provisions.
A great place to grab a muffin and coffee for breakfast, or a sandwich for lunch when you're on the run and/or aren't looking for a 5 star dining experience. Appears to be locally owned and operated, so having a choice from a coffee shop chain is a bonus.
10-1-12. I recommend this place. Nice carved turkey sandwich. The turkey was fresh and warm right off of the bird. The taste and quality was exceptional.
Been here a couple times now and had good experiences. First time was when we got caught in the lunch rush but service was still very quick and efficient. I ordered one of their Turkey based sandwiches which was delicious and filling. They have several options on the menu and allow customizations or dietary accommodations.
Recently we stopped here for breakfast and got an egg and cheese sandwich on an everything bagel. Not much seasoning on the egg which made it pretty bland but it was probably one of the cheapest egg and cheese bagels you'll find in DC.
It gives off nice local cafe vibes and it's also partially a convenience store for quick snacks and drinks. If you need a quick meal or looking to support a small business this is the place to go!
I came to get some breakfast while waiting for a family member to get done surgery at GW Hospital. It is about an 8 minute walk from the hospital.
Bacon egg and cheese on a bagel sandwich was actually pretty good. There could’ve been more meat however it was really inexpensive which made it worth what I paid for. There are a few tables inside and some outside as well.
Definitely recommend if you’re looking for a quick, good, and inexpensive breakfast sandwich.
There are many good options in their menu. Fresh omlette is quickly made in front of you with fresh vegetables you choose. It's a healthy fast breakfast you can get. They don't serve espresso or latte though. Only regular coffee.
Great value and quick. Good breakfast sandwiches. Lamb gyro sandwich was also good, but….
Club M sandwich was probably the worst club sandwich I’ve ever had. Very very very dry pieces of chunky turkey and the sandwich was overall tasteless. Couldn’t get myself to finish it.
Planning on giving other menu items a shot, but I will never be getting that sandwich again.
Came here for an omelette at around lunch time. Decent food and $7 for the food was reasonable. Wide range of other goods including bakery and snacks. Friendly staff and would recommend.
I thought this place had good omelettes! No gluten free bread options though.
We had the st.asaph, turkey, and club sandwiches. Really good and decent price, between 9-10 dollars
Nice convenient deli and store. Very clean and a wide selection of prepared foods, drinks, and snacks. There is a food bar to buy food by the pound and an areà where did is made to order. You would be hard pressed to not find something to your liking to eat or munch on. Some things are kind of pricey, but some things are a good value. If im in that area and need something good and quick I would likely pop in the Uptowner.
Enjoyed a sandwich and a cup of coffee for an early lunch while staying at a nearby hotel. Sandwiches are freshly made with good quality meat and veggies. Appreciated the caring and hardworking staff.
Incredible sandwiches and one of the last spots in DC to build fresh sandwiches with all types of ingredients for around $10. I hope this place doesn’t get squashed by chains like Tatte. It’s also a convenience store which is useful. I love this little spot.
