Best Ethiopian restaurant we’ve ever been to - food and service was exceptional. Loved the vegetarian deluxe dish and Habesha cold gold beer!
Excellent food and service. Vegetarian 10-Sampler was a delight I had been waiting for.
Excellent speedy service. Amazing veggie combo, great steak and had spaghetti on the menu for my daughter :)
Very traditional & tasty food! The Tej is on point.
Delicious deluxe platter & really friendly staff. Loved it!
Absolutely amazing!!!! Went here for the first time and loved everything about it. Food was exceptional! Definitely will be back and bringing more friends!
What a lovely intimate setting and the food was absolutely delicious! My daughter and I enjoyed our meal and the ambience.
Wonderful food! Glad that we went there and will go back often.
Everything is amazing. Just come willing to try anything and everything and you won't be disappointed.
I had a great time, and the food was awesome. I have always been a fan of Ethiopian food so it was a plus for me.
The bozena sharo we’t is nothing short of amazing!
Food is amazing and very authentic. Service is great.
Loooooooved the vegan options. Food was beyond amazing. A taste of home. MELKAM Addis Amet
The best place to eat. I love the food it is absolutely delicious.
A busy place (for good reason). Service is super friendly and helpful, and seating was throughout the restaurant (a little cramped), but we sat outside with heat lamps and it was covered, which was good as it was lightly raining.
Limited street parking is available, but we parked in a nearby parking lot.
We had about 5 people in our group on a Saturday evening so we waited about 20 minutes for a table and it was great as we were seated outside where the weather was cooler (it was a bit warm inside for me). The place is quite small, and you need to climb stairs to get in. This would not be handicap accessible (or stroller accessible).
Once inside, there is a small bar and tables. Upstairs is more seating if they have larger parties or groups. There is also a small patio out back with additional seating (and heat lamps if you need it).
The serve helped us pick a platter that would work well for our vegetarian and meat eaters. It was all delicious and well seasoned (even if I didn't know what I was eating at any given time - LOL). She explained it, but I lost track as we dug in! I look forward to coming back again!
I’m from out of town and this restaurant was recommended to me. I was so impressed! The food was amazing - I got the vegetarian special with lentils. It came out so quickly, was a nice size portion, and they took great care of me when I was at the bar by myself. I wish I lived here so I could keep going. Highly recommend!

Delicious food. It offers unique flavors and communal dining experiences. Injera, a sourdough flatbread, is a staple. Dishes like Doro Wat (spicy chicken stew) and Kitfo (minced raw meat) showcase the rich culinary heritage.
Dim lit, small scale Ethiopian spot. Best for smaller crowds. Laid back vibe. Ordered the beef ribs stewed in tomato, onion, bell pepper, & jalapeno. Beef was juicy, but also tough. There was some gristle. They brought out my food & then doled out the portions for me. Never had that at an Ethiopian restaurant. Gave adequate amounts of injera also.
Trying food from another country for the first time is always a fun experience. The food here is delicious and the staff are all friendly. If I come to DC again, I will definitely visit here again.
UPDATE - another delicious meal at our favorite Ethiopian restaurant. I'm not a vegetarian but their vegetarian combinations could keep me very happily fed. December 2023.
PREVIOUS VISIT
My husband and I went today for his birthday dinner - he declared it a best birthday. We had the deluxe vegetarian. Several items we'd never had or seen before. All delicious. Our server was sweet and patiently answered our questions.
We look forward to future visits.
It’s a small hole in the wall kind of place. Nothing too fancy except for the food. No wonder they were Michelin recommended. Have plenty of options of vegetarians and meat eaters (even the non beef and non pork people). Everything came quickly and our server was very attentive. Only thing I’d mention if you take kids, there are not many options except spaghetti. If you kid is not picky they will be fine, otherwise plan ahead for kids.
Our first time trying Ethiopian food and it didn’t disappoint! The food was delicious & flavorful. The service was amazing - we had 3 wonderful ladies checking on us. The atmosphere was homey & quaint. The deluxe vegan special was great to be able to try a bunch of things, and the Chercher beef special tibs was delicious. Highly recommend this place!
The atmosphere is not what you would come to this place for. The food is very good, but I don’t understand the hype honestly. However, the injera was SUPERB.
What a lovely place! Our food was absolutely delicious and we will definitely be coming back. The service was also very good, everyone working there were really kind and accommodating. It is intimate inside, not a ton of tables or room. They also have a patio. We got the vegetarian platter and everything on it was super delicious! The meat was also perfect.
Absolutely love this place. Vege Deluxe platter with beef tibs and ketfo-raw will fill your happy tummy. I also had their lamb tibs but think the beef tibs had a greater portion. Service was great! Wife ate it all. I just got to watch.
The food is sooo much better than the ones we order from Uber (in Bethesda area)! Service was very friendly and welcoming with cool vibes. Definitely worth coming back!!
Incredible Ethiopian food experience. The veggie combo is superb and we also got the tibs which was decent. The price is a bit on the higher side but unlimited servings of the best injera we had made up for it.
Chercher was a awesome experience! I was on the DC area traveling for work and have been crazing Ethiopian food. After some quick searching Chercher was one of the top rated locations. It is small and where told on arrival that there would be a 30 min wait. Trust me it’s worth the wait! Being Puerto Rican I’m used to very flavorful food with lots of spices and this place doesn’t disappoint! The lamb and steak were very tender and very everything just tasted so fresh. I would highly recommend anyone in the area to try. I would suggest going in a smaller group of 4 people or less for faster seating.
One of my very favorites - to eat in or order out! Vegetarian sample platter is my go to and their tibs are also quite great (pictured below). Most recently took an out of town friend here for her first experience with Ethiopian food and she loved it! Always a solid amount of food and for great prices.
Great service and small but cute and cozy atmosphere!
such an amazing spot. the waitress was so friendly and accommodating. we ordered lots of food and everyone was full and in the end was 15 dollars per person. how’s this possible in dc?
this place is always super packed with good reason!!! one of my favorite Ethiopian spots in the city, alongside Elfegne and Habesha but they all do different things! if I was single, I think this is a fabulous « first few dates » kinda spot— the lighting is a warm glow, and you can gauge someone’s personality + ick factor by eating with your hands together and maybe exploring a new cuisine if u haven’t had Ethiopian food!!! for first timers, I would reccomend getting a veggie platter (reg or deluxe) and the 50/50 of kitfo served raw!! (I promise it’s delicious, they might ask you if you’re sure . don’t doubt yourself!) and cooked beef. if not a beef person, get doro wat instead. or salmon tibs if you’re pescatarian. the beets and fasolia are my fave veggies and all the lentils are so solid. get honey wine and baklava if you’re feeling like treating yourself even more!
