It's a great restaurant. It has kind of a rustic feel, while having a table setup that's still intimate. The bar in the middle is open seating, but you'll be standing for a while before a seat opens up. It is best to make a reservation for one of the tables mentioned earlier. The food was excellent, and it's not easy to find good squid ink pasta. Parking is tough, as per the usual in DC, and there are only 2 bathrooms, and both are gender neutral.

Walked in without a reservation but was pleasantly let in. Ordered 2 appetisers, 2 pastas, 1 dessert which was a total of 110~ Great service! The appetisers were absolutely 💯 on point. The ricotta toast and octopus were a really great combination to start with. The toast is light, sweet and savoury. The octopus is grilled perfectly. The pastas are good effort. Have definitely eaten better ones. However, what is notable is that they are generous with the ingredients which makes up for what I found lacking in mind-blowing taste profile. Overall enjoyed ourselves very much and would recommend to head over to the Red Hen.

We had a 6pm reservation on a weekday and it was already starting to get busy, so reservations recommended! The atmosphere is great with some rustic decor and an awesome bar in the middle. The Mezzi Rigatoni was my favorite and the fennel sausage in the sauce was perfect - highly recommended. The Grilled Beef Short Ribs was also delicious and all of the ingredients on the plate were well balanced.

Great friendly service, with a ton of pasta options. I want off beaten path and ordered the short rib. Unfortunately it was not great, presentation was fantastic, but the meat was dry and actually fairly cold when it finally got to me. We also ordered the rigatoni was not anything beyond a remarkable version a bolognese pasta dish. The porkchop also looks fantastic, but I wonder that that was also a Mona Lisa type dish... Good from far but far from good. Last we both ordered the apple crisp and strawberry rhubarb pie... Both were nothing beyond average and far from remember. Overall I would say the place has a great vibe, but I would not go out of my way to eat here again.

If you are looking for a memorable night then this is your place. Ensure that you book the reservation well in advance as this place is completed packed each time we have visited. Very popular among locals. The chef keeps changing the menu as per the season which is great. There pasta dishes are where they shine. Over all a great place to have fun with your friends and families. I highly recommend.

Walked in without a reservation at open and was fortunate to get immediately seated at a table. The ricotta crostini is truly a perfect dish - please order this when you come! The fennel in the ragu pasta makes the sauce sublime. The peach crisp dessert was the bow tied upon a fantastic dinner experience.

Even though it was very crowded on Friday night, we were able to get seats at the bar quickly. We had arancini, squid ink linguini, rigatoni and gnochetti. And for dessert, we had a hazelnut torte. I enjoyed each and every bite of the dishes! Definitely coming back.

Bib Gourmand on the Michelin guide, a presidential visit, and 10 years in business, there's a lot to celebrate at Red Hen and the accolades are well-earned. Finally snagging a reservation on a Wednesday evening at 9 p.m., my friend and I went for dinner. Here's our experience. 1) Food: The menu changes seasonally- four times a year. Going at the end of September, the menu said "Autumn," but our server said they were still using end-of-summer ingredients. To start, my friend ordered the tuna crudo. For the main, I ordered the off-the-menu cacio e pepe and he got the "Mafalde." For dessert, we split the rhubarb coffee cake and the hazelnut torte. Every dish was presented beautifully and delicious, especially the "Mafalde" and tuna crudo. The desserts were dense and really good. 2) Drinks: There's something for everyone from hard cider to wine to cocktails. The "Movin' To The Country" was well-balanced- a tad sweet and smokey. My friend enjoyed his martini and after-dinner amari. 3) Price: It's on par with many D.C. restaurants. Most cocktails are $14. Pastas are between $22-$26. Toasts to start are between $9-$16. 4) Service: From the host to the server, it was on point. Timing was impeccable and our server very knowledgeable about the menu and plesant. 5) Space: It's in a corner building inside one large room with a center bar and an open kitchen. It's very cozy and warm. 6) Neighborhood: It's in Bloomingdale with many other restaurants and cafes nearby. Street parking is often more easy to find in this part of the city.

The best pasta in DC, that I’ve tried. As an Italian, I rarely seek out Italian food in the states. I’m usually disappointed. HOWEVER, The Red Hen makes their pasta dishes perfectly al dente, and the sauces are intensely flavorful! I left so happy that I could experience a taste of Italia from here.

Our server Veronica was wonderful. We ordered the Mezzi Rigatoni, Squid Ink Pasta, Chicken Liver & Foie Grasse Mousse, and 4 drinks total (pics not shown for all). Tables for 2 to dine-in along the back wall were a little close to each other for my liking (hitting butts against the tables) but the service and food were spectacular. Make sure to make a reservation, it’s just easier.
