A wonderful sushi restaurant that is on the higher-end and more upscale than it needs to be. The staff are really nice and the restaurant provides cozy and warm vibes, but the food was on the pricier end.
We had their specialty nigiri but found them to not be all too special; however, the winning dish of the night went to their salmon roll with pickled pineapple and basil. Somehow, that flavor palette blew my mind, and I still can't stop thinking about how delicious it was.
I had this sushi as a precursor warm up to an omakase experience later that week. Great idea!
I ordered a sashimi plate, red snapper head, and a tuna belly maki roll. Soft, melt in your mouth sushi, nice seaweed on the roll, and the snapper head was very good - shockingly meaty.
The service was on point and quick. A little busy when I went and almost overcrowded in a way. Food is worth the trip.
I got the Kaz Traditional Sushi Tasting 007 and the Toro Roll w/ Scallion. While the sushi is tasty, and the fish is relatively fresh, the quality of the fish is not the highest. Overall, we enjoyed the meal and would recommend visiting Kaz Sushi Bistro.
The hanger steak appetizer was delicious. Was my first time trying actual caviar (not the biggest fan but that’s just personal preference). Also tried the sea urchin out of curiosity, wasn’t anything special. My favorite was the spicy California. Recommend giving this spot a shot, they have unique options and service was good.
I’m no sushi connoisseur so take this how you want. I ordered the Japanese Wagyu nigiri, a California roll, and a crunchy shrimp roll. All three were fantastic! Staff was very nice and it was fun watching the guys in the back make the rolls. No complaints here! Would definitely eat here again
Server and staff were super nice and attentive. The food, as usual, was excellent. Sushi is fresh and authentic. The rice was well prepared and the fish and sauces tasty. My only slight complaint was that the nori was a tad on the stale side, but not in a way that detracted from the stellar flavor. The miso soup, tempura, salmon skin roll, and seaweed salad were among the best we’ve had in this area! Kaz and Sushi Taro (at lunch) remain my go-tos for a la carte sushi in DC. 👍👍
I mean, I asked for recommendation, they recommended crunchy shrimp and I picked a few of my favorites as well which is why I think they deserve all 5 stars. I make sushi’s of my own and kinda experienced in that and I loved those, (oh yea, there goes the but) BUT I wouldn’t recommend this place honestly. Sorry to the owner and the incredible chef, the environment is not very suiting in my opinion for the price. I was hoping for a cozier atmosphere. I went there with a date and it was very crowded and we weren’t comfortable which is the only reason I’m giving them 4. Best of luck.👍🏻
The service here was absolutely perfect. They were all so kind and even put a candle on the dessert for my friend's birthday. And the food is delicious!! Lots of options, including vegetarian rolls. We enjoyed our visit here.
The food was spectacular. The service was perfect. I highly recommend this restaurant. The ingredients were all fresh and delectable.
My daughter had the lobster and grilled avocado and can’t stop talking about weeks later. Her sushi and roll selections delighted her. She exclaimed how fresh every bite of seafood was.
As a vegan, I had the warm cauliflower and kale salad and I seriously contemplated getting a second serving! It was so flavorful and just a perfect way to start my meal. The crispy Brussels sprouts with sweet potatoes are a must have! I ordered inside out avocado and oshinko rolls and they were both delicious. The avocado was perfection!
We will definitely add Kaz Sushi Bistro to our regular rotation every time we are in DC.
My chicken bento box was really good. The sushi rolls was more like 4/5 stars for me (it could be just that little bit fresher IMO even though there’s nothing wrong with the quality). The service was excellent. If it was just $5 - 7 less per pax for the meal, the value would have been excellent. I am rating it 5 stars even though 4.5 stars is what I would have rated.
Great quality, recommend the KAZ Tasting 0011 & just keep the experience going until you're done. Service is pretty slow, at least when we were there but we got what we came for in the end.
Came here for the Valentines day set menu for a delicious food adventure of Japanese and fusion fare. Would definitely recommend. Our waiter brought us three different sakes to try before we decided on the one we liked best. It was really fun to play the game of guessing which sake was which. The chef at one point came out and torched our wagyu beef personally before we dug in. We had a really lovely evening.
Tried the sushi Omakse which cost $80. Comes with two starters and 15 pieces of sushi and dessert. Unlike other Omakase places which brings you a piece of sushi one at a time. This place brought out two starters, then a plate of 8 piece sushi, then another plate of 7 piece sushi. Everything was good and it will definitely fill you up. One of the starters they brought out I just didn’t like it. The waitress saw that i didnt like it and swapped it out with a different plate for me. This was very kind of them. Recommended
We stopped here kind of on a whim. This was by far the best sushi I've ever had. The bluefin with black truffle is absolutely devine!
A solid restaurant for a delicious omakase! The location of Kaz is very conveniently located and great quality for DC. I love the cute, compressed paper towel tablets, where the waitstaff will pour some water over to “inflate” so that guests can wipe their hands before their meal. For reference, having moist paper towels is a standard in Japan, so this makes it feel quite authentic. I went for restaurant week, and the sushi arrangement was awesome and delicious. The fish was fresh, and the side dishes were too.
The only qualm I have is with those strange rectangular nigiri options (see photo) with vegetables and other uncommon ingredients. Although they look very cute, they would fall apart when you try to pick it up and I wasn’t very impressed with the flavor combination.
Good sushi, true to traditional style. Grilled octopus was also excellent
Had to order uni separately because it was not included in any set menu
The place had excellent sushi. Very authentic and disciplined to Japanese standards. While we understand how tough it is with labor, our wait staff member was a still a little green and could have been a little more attentive. She was very nice and cordial but it took her about 12 minutes to greet us and ask us for drinks or waters. I think she missed a few things on the order too.
The sushi was amazing however. The kanpachi was insane. The seared scallop melted in our mouths. The salmon with the lemon zest was incredible. I could have ordered another two rounds of their sushi at the sitting!
