Lapis was a wonderful restaurant to visit. Be sure to get a reservation, this place stays busy! This was our first experience enjoying vegan Afghan cuisine and it was delicious. Be sure to mention you're vegan or dairy-free as they do have some sauces that contain milk. The dishes on the menu are clearly labeled as vegan, but double check the sauces or let your waiter know. Speaking of our waiter, he was really nice and let us know some of the options we could enjoy and he provided great service. We will definitely be back as there were plenty of menu options we did not get to try.

A fusion of Afghan flavors! This place can get busy so a reservation is recommended. They have indoor and outdoor heated seating. It is nicely decorated to reflect the essence of Afghanistan. I enjoyed looking around at the decor and photographs. The service was excellent and the staff is knowledgeable about the cuisine. We ordered the chicken ghormeh, Kabuli pulao, and the eggplant dish as our mains. They are a generous size, but each is enough for one. We also ordered shrimp dumplings and the Afghan flatbread with pumpkin. They have a great selection of wine and cocktails, and we opted for a rose from Lebanon. The food was excellent, fresh, and not heavy. Great location and ambiance. Menu is clearly labeled for anyone with food allergies. Many gluten-free options and an impressive selection for vegetarians.

Delicious afghan food with a very chill vibe. Came here for brunch and they have a couple of extra items on the menu as well as their standard options. All the food was really good albeit a bit pricey, and the brunch options are unique which is great, just don’t expect your standard omelettes and bacon. We got several plates to share, my party was too fast with their fingers for me to take pictures but trust when I say everything looked delicious. I’d recommend ordered a few smaller plates and that’ll be more than enough for a group. I’m looking forward to coming back for dinner. Definitely make reservations as this place is popular for good reason

Lapis was definitely a memorable experience. The dumplings are a MUST. We got the Shrimp ones and the classic mantoo. Both were delicious. The Afghani Salata was colorful and delicious. They had a Lamb Special today cooked in garlic and onions served with rice and turnips. It was simply one of the best meals I’ve ever had. To finish off, we got the rice pudding and the chocolate moose for dessert. Can’t go wrong with their desserts. I’ll definitely be back to try more dishes when back in DC.

I had a very memorable brunch at Lapis. I have to say their $35 special for a three course brunch was a great choice. We felt we got a good sample of the cuisine offered at brunch. I highly encourage everyone to try it at least once! I also felt like the drinks were reasonably priced for DC. I will absolutely be back to try the all day menu next time!!

I liked the restaurant and the food. I only gave less food rating as I think the quantity should be more based on the prices. The food is overpriced. We ordered various items, and they were all good. The service was great, and there is 20 percent tip that gets added to your bill as a fyi. Overall, I still recommend this restaurant for special occasions.

Had an awesome time here for dinner! The ambience of the restaurant is exactly what you would expect of a niche, downtown restaurant with dim lights, a small indoor dining area, and a hip staff. Food was great! A medley of different Afghan foods but with a modern twist. It’s a hit or miss depending on the type of food you like. I would check this place out if you’re going on a date night or going with some friends and wanted to try some nice Afghan food in downtown D.C.

One of my all time favorite restaurants. I ate here twice during my last DC trip. Haven’t tried anything that isn’t delicious. It’s got a vibe too. I would love for one to open in New Orleans

lapis was an incredible meal through and through- we got the afghan dumplings, mezze platter, and the afghani bread. The dumplings were the stand out dish in my opinion- the beef sauce was so juicy and bursting with flavor. the lamb in the mezze platter was so incredible… i wish we just got the lamb skewer or the lamb shank. overall, it was an incredible meal at a great price point, and i highly recommend!

Traveled to DC, and friends recommended Lapis for amazing afghan (halal) Food. And the food was certainly amazing! I had the lamb shank, and the meat was so tender and flavorful. However the most memorable dish were the desserts. We ordered the sooji and rice pudding and it was so fragrant and amazing. Went there 3 weeks ago but it's still on my mind. We sat outside, so naturally there were mosquitoes everywhere, but the staff handed out insect repellant. The staffs were friendly and helpful as well.
