A colleague had visited this place a couple of nights and liked it so suggested we drive to Waimea from the Waikoloa Beach Hilton. Well, what a surprise. Set in the middle of paniolo (Hawaiian cowboy) territory, we had some of the best home made food and house smoked BBQ I've ever eaten. All with a touch of Hawaiian flavour. From the addictive lilikoi mule to crackseed sauce topped melt in your mouth tender baby back ribs slow roasted over apple hickory wood, so tasty. this place is a must. Off the menu they do a great Hawaiian avocado guac (better tasting than the varieties at home) with salsa and chips which we started with. Definitely choose the grilled pineapple and cornbread (probably an award winner it was so delicious!) as a side. Any meat lover with a car on the Big Island has got to make the pilgrimmage to this unassuming gem of a kitchen. Only regret is that we couldn't continue ordering to try other things as we were so full (My friend's gumbo was simply breathtaking. Dumbfounding delicious --- wish I could have stolen the recipe haha.)
Thankfully this place does Facebook advertising or I’d never have found it! We had the best lunch here today while visiting the lookout. The establishment itself is uber cute, the staff is so friendly, and the food (AND drinks!!!) were amazing! We are big bbq people, so tough critics, but everything was delicious. The strawberry lemonade is to die for.... so happy we stopped and found this hidden gem!!!

Excellent vibe, delicious food, and phenomenal onion rings! Our server, Tyson, was wonderful and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The onion rings are some of the best I've ever had. They were so good, we ordered another batch. This restaurant is a definite place to go for anyone!

We are staying in Kona but visiting a friend who lives outside Waimea... This was definitely worth the drive!! I loved the setting, our waitress was friendly and attentive but not overbearing. We ordered the brisket, fish tacos, and French dip. Everything was so good and each of us had lunch for the next day. Lovely place, we will definitely be back!
Great atmosphere with an attentive wait staff that can handle just about any dietary restraints you throw at them.
The chicken & robs platter is top notch, the cornbread is excellent.
Everything was excellent! We had a ribeye steak, French dip, pork, ribs and shrimp and chips. The best food and David is a great server and such a friendly guy!
It was fabulous. We had the best waiter and met some fabulous people from Canada. I had the sampler platter with fries and onion rings. All of it was great but the brisket was great.
First off, try their BBQ sauces...simply amazing! Both have their own unique flavor. Second, I had the fish sandwich with homemade tartar sauce...fresh grilled fish, nothing can beat that! Coleslaw was top notch. Simply a must try spot. The atomosphere was awesome two. Just a little roadside shack vibe.
Great place to come! Fish tacos, calamari and poke burger to die for! Service can't be beat!
To any body that rated this place less than three, their nuts. This place is worth the drive and is excellent.
Wholly cow!!! So so ONO!!! We have the French dip. Everything was perfect. The flavor of the barbecue sauce was amazing. Don't miss this. One in a million.

This restaurant is a happy friendly place that provides the mat excellent food and service. I had the fish tacos made on 2 tortillas with grilled ono, gaucamole, sour cream, cabbage, and great salsa. My cousin hade a Poke burger and almost licked her fingers when finished. We are going back on Monday for other delights!

Great food and atmosphere! The wait staff were courteous and helpful. I had the sampler plate. It was definitely for a hearty appetite! Will be stopping in again for sure!
We had the pork and the beef brisket. The brisket was some of the best I've had! The lemonade was excellent too!
Favorite place on the island hands down - great food, atmosphere and service!
I can’t rave about this place enough. Every dish (there were six of us) was freaking delicious. And the variety!!! It’s not just a bbq joint. We had French onion soup, glazed baby back rib, tacos (brisket and fish), poke bowl, man n cheese, and a banana cream pie and I wanted to stay and order more… not because I was hungry, but because it was SO DELICIOUS (which, honestly, is not what I can say about the other spots we’ve dinned at on the island). Eat here. You will not regret it!
Loved everything we ordered, and came back the next day. Meat was tender, flavorful, juicy, and fell off the bone. Really enjoyed the Paniolo BBQ Sauce. Loved the cornbread!
5/5 BBQ Beef Brisket Plate
5/5 Baby Back Ribs 1/2 Rack
5/5 Blackened Fish Tacos
Much better than expected. Fun atmosphere with a hodgepodge decor of local interests. Menus showcased local variations on expected food and drink items. Our group favored the homemade onion rings, the Hot Hawaiian Burger, and everything barbecue, especially the brisket. The bartenders are on point; don't pass up the drinks.
Best Bart of this meal was the appetizers and desert. Garlic shrimp very tasty. Chocolate cake and banana cream pie amazing. The ribs and chicken okay needed more flavor .... onion rings not crisp and very greasy.

Absolutely one of my favorites in Waimea. Get here earlier in the days for a better shot at some brisket. Otherwise the pork is great too! The in house Hawaiian BBQ sauce is SO GOOD. It's nice that (if you're on the waitlist) they can text you when your table is ready. Can be chilly at night with the open windows so bring a jacket. Don't to forget to save room for dessert!!
We ordered...
Pork nachos
Cuban sandwich
Pork tacos
And the BBQ Mac and cheese. Loved it!
Great food and ambiance. Would have probably earned 5 stars but after a 45 minute drive there, they told me they didn’t have any brisket which ruled out a few items on the menu. Ordered the half rack of ribs which were delicious but really wanted the sampler (but again there was no brisket). Would have been nice if they would have let me still get the sampler and just switch out the brisket for something else.
The Fish and the Hog is by far the best meal you can get on the Island of Hawaii. We dined for a week at everything from high end to quick service take out. If I had eaten at the Fish and the Hog the first day it would have been the only place I would have visited for ten entire week. They are famous for their bbq, fall off the bone, fall off your fork, lick your plate clean, can’t get enough of ribs, brisket, pork. The salads are fresh, the drinks are cold , the desserts are over the top, and the grilled pineapple with that sprinkle of secret red powder is to die for. I am going to say “just go” and indulge in Hawaii Heaven.
Got here before they opened and already a line forming for dining in. Be fair warned, if your entire party isn't waiting in line, they'll skip you and seat the next group. There is also pretty poor wireless signals, and they don't have any wifi for use. We weren't sure what to get, so got the Sampler w/ grilled pineapple and cornbread, and the Poke Nachos.
The nachos were done very well. Good portion of poke on top, the sauce is a bit strong/salty towards the end, but overally a really nice play on nachos hawaiian style.
The sampler left some to be desired. The grilled pineapple and cornbread were both very good, but the pulled pork was a bit dry and bland. The sausage was probably the best out of the meats. The brisket was good, but I've had just as good/better briskets at my neighbors house. And ribs I liked, but it really wasn't tender enough. Required quite a bit of maneuvering to actually get at the meat, definitely not off the bone tender.
I’ve eaten a lot of BBQ all across the US and it was nice to find some really good smoked meat on HI! I got the platter with pulled pork, brisket, ribs and sausage. Everything was delicious! Now of all the meat the ribs were my favorite and the best. They have a good verity of food here so everyone should be able to find something and it was all top notch.
Up in the country, in the small town of Waimea. The Fish and The Hog is probably as close to heaven as you're going to get. The country vibe is through the roof in this place. Awesome. Mallani was all country. Very thorough, very kind, very caring. The food is definitely out of this world. Couldn't decide what I wanted. So, I got it all. (Sampler) was a winner. With fries and cornbread. Yessir.
The brisket Mac and Cheese is no joke. Its words can't describe the magic that happens with every bite. And the banana cream pie. Wow. Just wow. Oh my lord.
With an amazing atmosphere, incredible service, and fantastic food, The Fish and The Hog is truly heavenly. Thank you for the experience! 🤙🏽
