Great little place that is connected to another sitdown restaurant The Shanty, which it should be noted has the entrance located to the rear of the building near the nature preserve. Pockets has all wooden furnishings like a good BBQ place or wharf eatery. I wished more of the tables where benches with backs though as many were either bench without back support or chair as i think there was a side room with some chair seating. May want to try the shanty if you need back support or to stay longer. I had the ribs which on a continuum I'd rate a 7 out of 10 tasty with meat falling off bone. My father had shrimp deep fried with crab meat inside and it was tasty, similar to stuffing with a hint of spice. The coleslaw was alright and prices reasonable. We also got a side of onion rings which were not greasy nor overly flakes, but just right. One suggestion I have for the place is that when a side of dinner roll is chosen butter and a plastic knife be given with the meal. Also, it may be good to help the environment by not using Styrofoam boxes... otherwise keep doing what you're doing.
Ordered the breaded / fried gulf shrimp which was delicious. The coleslaw was cold, crisp, and sweet. The red skin potatoes and cornbread were also delicious. Very nice size portions. A must try for anyone that has never been here.
This spot is unique. Every thing is made to order. Aligator was really good, frog leg teasted good a little slimey. The rib tips were on point. Fries were really good. Staff and cooks were very nice and friend. I would go back
This place is great. Honestly the best food I have eaten in the Chicago area. There is an ambiance where you can relax and the atmosphere is very mature. A good place to take a date.
I happened to ask a local their favorite place to eat while passing through town. Boy am I glad they led us here! The selection of food is insane and the quality and taste of everything was ridiculous! I ate the jumbo shrimp and ribs combo with corn bread, garlic potatoes and greens. Outstanding!
Very very confusing. There are three restaurants all combined into one Pokys, the shanty, and the shanty south we had no idea where we were going the hostess was a little confused and rude. We stumbled around the corner to porkies. You have to go up to the counter in order and they bring it out to you. Had the pan seared salmon with vegetables and rice pretty good. The brisket dinner was good. The corn bread was a little dry.
This place has phenomenal sea food. The king crab legs are enormous, you can order a sea food boil and choose what to add in it & the seasoning on it. Their lobster tails are so full of flavor & again just huge. Everyone who works their is so friendly and you'll always be served with a smile. The homemade desserts are truly the best ever! Check this place out, you will not be disappointed. This is not a fancy place its casual, you place your order and seat yourself by the food makes it worth the visit.
Fresh made to order fish and vegetables for only about 20 bucks. Great food. Great value if you're on the go I don't want to get in and get out.
I'm a loyal customer as far back as the old location! Food is always good and the staff is always wonderful. Great place for some seafood and smoked meat.
Always friendly people when I stop here to eat or pick up food. No exceptions this time. They have many selections to choose from including posted specials. I ordered food, sat down and everything came out pretty quickly. Great portions and very good tasting. There were a few overcooked sides mixed in with the fresh tasting ones - only reason for the 4 stars.
It's been a long rollercoaster ride for me with the Captain and I feel I owe them an apology. Years ago when they were still at the old Sheridan location I wrote a terrible review saying that "folks, I just don't get it", well now I do. I couldn't understand at the time what all the hoopla was about with the food here, and the fact of the matter is, I just hadn't tried the right things and I certainly was being overly critical, and for that, I do sincerely apologize.
As it stands today, I firmly place Captain Porky's high on my list of "best Lake County restaurants" and for having the best hand breaded shrimp in Lake County. And I especially love them with that Cajun seasoning!
The aquarium smoked ribs and tips are also really good, and the house mild sauce is well matched to the meat.
Take care Captain, I'm glad you are thriving in Wadsworth, it's well deserved.
Amazing Fresh Seafood, Ribs, pastas, oysters serviced different ways and styles, soups of the day and delicious desserts. Also, there is a great variety of beers and fountain drinks. Wonderful customer service. Cozy wood tables and Plenty of parking available. Located right next to the Shanty restaurant.
Outstanding food. So many options and all that we tried were great. Big recommendation for a solid fill up, or order to go if you’re passing through.
New to the restaurant. Carol was super helpful to explain ALL the choices. Casual atmosphere. Order, have a seat, they bring it to you.
The food was delicious! Cooked perfect.
If we are ever in the area, we will come back!
My husband had the crawfish boil.
This place is outstanding! Excellent fresh food! I had the alligator po boy before. Today this 2023 I had frog legs and it was excellent but something new I never had. I came here with the Lake County Health Dept program I am in. Food was served fast and warm and the servers and staff had positive attitudes! Very clean too. And this place stays busy and I recommend it most HIGHLY! The greens was fresh and favorable, potatoes were satisfying and the dinner roll was good and fluffy.
