I've been meaning to dine-in and I finally did.
First off, the vibe in this restaurant is quite exclusive. It's dark and gives off a cool but intimate atmosphere.
Second, the service was nice. I felt welcomed and served appropriately with our server checking up on us whenever she managed to pass by us while juggling to bring orders to other tables. The wine was poured into my glass in front of me and she was accommodating if we ever had questions. My wife is a curious one and whenever the chef put out the orders, she would look through and wonder what they were. The chef was eager to let us know the names of the order.
Last, but the most important one, the food was delicious! You can tell that the chef cares about the ingredients they put out. Everything was fresh and the quality was not lacking at all. We had the special soft shell crab fried under tempura batter. As we put a spritz of lemon and dipped it into their tempura sauce, the flavor of the soft shell crab was complimented by the light lemon taste and the slight saltiness and sweetness of the sauce. I also ordered the salmon belly. I knew what to expect for taste because I've had it somewhere else before. With 4 big pieces of salmon belly associated with the sauce and a slight kick of spiciness, the sushi melted in my mouth. I had to order another one to end the night.
The only damper to my experience was the high cost of food and how little was served in every dish. However, I do believe that the cost is made up with the careful and precise choosing of their ingredients in order to create a wonderful experience for their guests.
If you're wanting to take your date somewhere, choose this place!
A delightful dining experience. I was in the mood for sushi, and only having been here a few months I asked for recommendations on Nextdoor. Of all the ones that were suggested, I narrowed it down to two after reading the reviews. This one was closest to where we were at meal time and I am so glad it was.
The outside is not flashy at all and if I hadn't googled the location we never would have seen it. We were greeted almost immediately after walking in, and seated promptly. Quaint, pretty place. There are two bars and a third bar area. There is a cute fish ceiling decoration over one of the bars which we enjoyed.
We ordered 3 rolls - a Virginia Beach, a vegetable Atkins, and a vegetable. My boyfriend ordered a peartini while we waited for our meal and he said it was refreshingly different. When our rolls arrived they were beautifully plated and delicious! They came with sliced ginger and wasabi of course as well as a ginger sauce and a spicy peanut sauce (?). We enjoyed everything. 😋
5/31/23 After trying other restaurants nearby, we made Mizuno our weekly sushi place. Always clean. Always fresh. Always delicious.

I always love coming here when in town for work. Very good sushi! Try the soy wrap. Yum!
Our favorite sushi place in Virginia Beach. The salmon crudo is to die for, it’s our favorite, very fresh and buttery soft. I was also given a complimentary dessert on my birthday which made so much more special. We’ll definitely come back.
Best quality Japanese cuisine I’ve ever had. The attention to detail made to the dishes is amazing. Usually the thought of raw fish makes me nauseous but to be able to bite into and slowly chew on a wrap of salmon or tuna and enjoy it is worthy of mention to me.
We go quite a bit, and the service is always impeccable with Karen, our fave waitress! This time, we had a different waitress who was a bit absent-minded, and we had to wait quite a while for our food. By the time it came out, we almost decided to cancel. In addition, they were out of our fave dessert, which was a bummer. Hopefully, the next time will be better.
Silky, smooth and rich with a thin pane of crunchy toffee! Creme Brûlée is the ultimate finish to the best sushi restaurant, hands down in Virginia Beach and maybe nationwide! If your looking for the best, then Mizuno Japanese Restaurant is absolutely a must to have sushi that melts in your mouth. This sleek and contemporary restaurant offers traditional and unique sushi fusion dishes and speciality cocktails! It is pure please to watch Walter’s mastery and expertise especially the Chef’s choice of assorted 6 sushi and 10 sashimi with a roll of spicy tuna or tuna crunchy crunchy! The gyoza is the bomb too!
Sushi was off the charts! "Best sushi I've had in my life" - my avid sushi lover wife. She also said the tuna was very high sushi grade fish. Tuna poke tacos were real good although not a lot of food. Definitely expensive but high quality. The sushi alone makes the review a 5 star but the vibe is unique. It's a very modern place with a cool light up bar and was blasting night club music when we went. It felt like there should be a dance floor haha interesting for sure
Excellent meal! Service by Rose was impeccable. She was very professional but also very friendly and fun. We had the Mizo Crudo, gyoza, several rolls, yakisoba (which my son said was one of the top 20 things he had eaten in his life 😂), and finished with the Creme Brûlée. The rolls can be quite unique incorporating filet of beef and other unusual ingredients. The only yucky item was the Lychee Cocktail. But the wine was lovely. Not an inexpensive meal. $300 (including tip) for 3 people. 1 cocktail and 2 glasses of wine. So plan accordingly.
This is the best sushi I’ve ever had. The restaurant is so nice inside. The fish is beyond fresh. I highly recommend the specialty rolls and the egg drop soup is delicious. All other sushi places taste about the same but Mizuno stands out above the rest. This is the sushi restaurant I’d prefer to eat at the restaurant as opposed to take out (although I would do both!).
Got the salmon crunch and the crispy salmon. they were really good and the bartender was super sweet. The miso soup was super savory too.
My own treat to myself once a week. Ambiance, service and the food. Sushi melts in your mouth in a river of senses delight. Karen is the best and provides superior customer service.
Great sushi! Cool vibes! Great service, clean, fresh and delicious. Great wine choices too!
Decadent homemade chocolate mousse with blueberries. Awesomely fresh sashimi! Great service! The best sushi in Hampton Roads.
The fish was soooooo fresh! The taste was so pure! I have to bring my friends back! The flavor was god-like! What a gem of a restaurant I found! Very modern decor and a little upscale; perfect for a date or a chill night to drink. 10 out of 10 would devour again!
You really can’t go wrong with this menu, but I recommend the Mizuno Roll! Crunchy tuna roll and crunchy salmon roll are a must do.
This is hands down our favorite sushi spot in town. I’ve driven past for years and had no idea this hidden gem was here.
It’s very non-descript outside so you’d blink and miss it. Inside is classy and elegant with a beautiful bar area with an acrylic light up vibe. Super cool at night.
We tend to sit at the bar to eat and have the same server every time. She’s the bartender and she’s absolutely amazing.
We love their edamame, dumplings, seaweed salad and sushi! My personal fav is the King Kong roll which is rice-free and has salmon salad wrapped in a thin slice of cucumber. Sooooo good!
We also recently tried the Tuna Crunchy Crunchy and that’s also going on the must have list when we visit.
Green tea and sake are delish and they have other dishes if sushi isn’t your thing.
Run, don’t walk. Trust me.
