Review Hair Of The Dog Eatery - Virginia Beach

Great dining experience at Hair of the Dog! We tried the oatmeal creme pie coffee... delightful! The French onion soup had an interesting twist to it with cheese toast served on top. My daughter loved her chicken and waffles. Our server was super sweet and attentive!

Food was amazing! Best chicken n waffles I've ever had! Hubby really enjoyed the meatloaf sandwich. Can't wait to come back & try the rest of the menu. I would definitely recommend eating here, really hit the spot. Service was ok, music was ok, some songs too loud to hear each other talking but the food was just so yummy.

Pretty decent place to eat brunch! I recently visited this location with my family and had a pretty good time here. I've visited the other locations in Norfolk and had great experiences there as well. This location was nice and I liked the outside seating options. We came on a busy day and waited about 30 minutes which was fine. The staff here are very nice and polite! I can't remember our server's name but she was very sweet! I ordered the seafood omelette with the cheesy grits and rye toast. The omelette was good, I just would've preferred more seasoning. The grits were okay but a little disappointing because they were dry. Overall, it was a nice experience and the prices here are very reasonable!

I love this HOTD. The staff is so friendly and the food is always great. The other day I camped at a table reading on the patio for 2 hours and my server was so sweet and patient about it. Pungo Bene was delicious!

Was my 1st time there. The staff were friendly and the service was great. I had the H.O.T.D. Burger rare and it was cooked rare (a lot of places either cook it medium rare or still raw in the center when I order rare) and it tasted great. Fries were good too. Prices aren't too bad either. Over all I enjoyed the meal and the place. Would go again and would definitely recommend.

First time was a charm, food was great. We had the meatloaf sandwich which was awesome and the h.o.t.d. Burger which is the one with a waffle as a bun. Super tasty special dipping sauce with the sweet potato fries made them taste like thanksgiving.

The best restaurant in Va Beach! If you don’t believe me then oh well. I don’t even leave reviews for restaurant’s but this one DOES NOT miss!! Drinks and food are on point. Josh was our server the last 2 times I went. He was very attentive and pleasant. Thanks for everything! 5 stars and nothing less. 💙

Had the H.OT.D burger for lunch today which is a burger on a waffle bun with a fried egg and bacon. It was definitely hearty and the burger was cooked well but it's just missing a sauce. I probably should have asked for one because it was really dry and lacking flavor. Other than that the sweet potato fries with the sugar butter was delicious.

A family favorite for brunch. I think their Eggs Benedict were voted best in the area at least once. Yes! They have carnivore and vegetarian options (my favorite). My husband noted the chicken n waffles to be a standout. Typically, he says, the cut of chicken on this dish is not the best. Here, he found the fried chicken to be moist, tender, not sinewy. The hot coffee is also quite excellent I can never say no to a second cup. The dining room has a nice local sense of place. It’s very clean and in good repair. The staff seems truly happy to be there. We’re planning to return more often.

My family and I were so impressed with our visit this evening! It was the perfect late lunch/dinner. The mac and cheese and cheesy grits were hits all around. The homemade cheese sauce is perfection! My daughter loved the chocolate chip cookie dough pancakes and I was impressed with the buff chicken sandwich. My husband and I split the bloody Mary and Mimosa flights, YUM! It was all well made, fresh and had really great ingredients. Also, our server Kyle did a great job! We will be back.

My husband and I visited on Wednesday evening. I have been here numerous times with friends, y’all never disappoint. The food is amazing, the atmosphere is very down to earth. The staff are welcoming and friendly. Even better, the food is not expensive for the portions that you receive. I have never once had a bad experience here, I recommend everyone come out and have amazing food, and a good time.

The last time I was there, I believe I gave it a 5 star. This time, not so much. Don’t get me wrong, the food is good, but the service has dropped a bunch. Here’s the difference: last time the place was packed. We waited, got our table, ordered, and ate. The food didn’t take that long to come out. Service was great. This time wasn’t that busy. Our food took forever. The table behind us, that sat down 10 minutes after us was served their meals before we were and we had the same waitress. After she served their meal, she told us that the kitchen was backed up. Seriously? I had to ask the busboy for more Splenda because she refilled our coffee and never brought the Splenda that I requested. Then, a little later, I had to ask the seater for more coffee, because our waitress was nowhere to be found again. The food was good, like normal, but service needs to improve. Keep the coffee full! Don’t forget to put in the orders!

The service was great, and the food was affordable as well as delicious! On my visit I ordered the stuffed bbq & bacon wrapped shrimp as an appetizer and the bacon wrapped meatloaf with mashers and broccolinni as my entrée. The shrimp were so goooood! You only get 4...so you might want to get 2 orders if you're hungry! The bacon wrapped meatloaf was scrumptious! It was topped with a spicy tomato chutney that I fell in love with! Hair Of The Dog is a great spot to check out in Virginia Beach. I will definitely be back in the future!

What a gem this place is. Quaint little eatery with a great beer selection. The food selection and taste is nothing short of amazing...A hamburger with a waffle bun?!?! For sure a regular on our list of go-to restaurants.

First and last time here thanks to bad service. After waiting twenty minutes after our appetizer, our waitress informed us she forgot to place our food order with the kitchen. No biggie, things happen. We were not angry or upset. After that she didn’t come back to our table except to bring our food and tell me they were making more fries because I clearly got a half portion and she would bring them out shortly. Then we didn’t see her again til we were done eating. She walked by several times without even glancing at us. Unacceptable in my book. She never even apologized for us having to wait longer.

They have a unique menu there, lots of different plates with a modern twist on it. We thought our food was very good. However we both ordered grown-up drinks they came out not quite at a drinkable temperature. They were just shy of actually being cold. What kind of ruined the rest of our meal. We had ask for ice for our beers.
Jerry Cortez
Appetizer took too long to come, then ordered medium steak and eggs from the special menu. The steak was raw so I sent it back and it came back over cooked. At least the waiter and I guess the manager tried to correct it, but I need to get going. My daughter’s food came out good.

We moved here in March, and this has been our number one breakfast/brunch spot to eat at! The bartender Katie has ALWAYS exceeded our expectations and always made our visits so fun. There isn't a weekend that goes by that we don't find our way to Hair of the Dog. We love the staff, and the exceptional food and beverages! Katie can take care of us anytime!

Amazing food great service you wait a bit on food but it is so worth it! Pure yumness and great drinks!

Always love Hair of the Dog! Creative bloodys and mimosas, I especially love Porky’s Revenge. The food is so good! The Pungo Bene is everything I want in brunch. Our server Paul really made this visit exceptional. He was super helpful with recommendations and so friendly.
Chrystina Champion
Amazinggggg food ! Go during the week , the weekends is way too crowded , but definitely worth the wait. The chicken and waffles and the silly gringo Bloody Mary are just try’s !

Chicken and Waffles, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Pancakes and Cheddar Biscuits and Sausage Gravy were excellent!!! The service was good!! It is a bit of a wait but that’s because the food is immaculate.

Always enjoy this place. It's in my neighborhood, the food is good, the service is friendly, helpful, and efficient (Jessica is great!), and anytime I have guests in from out of town I introduce them to HoTD!

This was a great neighborhood gem. Good food, service and an overall great experience.

Dined here at about 9am on the july 4th holiday. the service was perfect. Sitting outside was lovely(FYI: smoking is allowed). Drinks were just right. Food was awesome but it did take a lil while to come but thats to be expected on a holiday. I recommend the grilled cheese. It was amazing.

This place is amazing!!! Great mimosas and the bartenders are really sweet. I had the Mediterranean eggs Benedict and they were so full of flavor. The home fries are perfect. My boyfriend got the Pungo Bene and it was massive and delicious!! Will def be back to try the bloody Mary's.

I stopped by Hair of the Dog Eatery for lunch yesterday. Man was I glad I did. I have wanted to check them you since reading Joe D.'s review a while back. This place is really cool. Tucked away in a corner of Loehman's Plaza in Virginia Beach it's a real gem. First let me say that the decor and atmosphere are casual, comfortable, really cool and totally chill. I love it! They even have charging stations table side for your devices. That brings me to the service. It's perfect. I was greeted with a smile by their host, a young cool guy who made me feel welcomed to be there. I was seated quickly and my server was table side immediately after. Great smile, explained the specials, took my drink order and handed me a menu. The Manager even stopped by and personally got me on their free WiFi. Half way through my meal even one of the Kitchen team asked how my food was. I was very impressed at the menu variety and the very obvious overtones of "BACON" everywhere. Did I just die and go to heaven? With that said I zeroed in on what I could tell are signature items, BURGERS. So I chose the Edin-Burger. It's a half pound of hand pattied fresh ground beef, I'm guessing 80/20 grind grilled to temp, topped with lettuce, tomato, onions, melted cheese, and yes crispy bacon, served on a fresh baked bun egg washed with coarse salt and pepper. Served with crisp and lightly battered fries and a delicious thick cut deli pickle spear. So here is how it all shakes out: The burger was OFF DA CHAIN! Fresh, juicy, delicious, and 100% made with love and skill! The veggie toppings were crisp and cool, the cheese was melted perfectly and creamy. The bacon was thick cut and salty and the Burger was cooked spot in perfect Medium, just look at my pics above. This is the best burger I have had in Hampton Roads in 10 years, yes even better than my own burger. Side cars: the Fries are good too, hot and crispy. Drink was tasty I had a Diet Pepsi, syrup to water spot on. They also have one of the best beer selections in the area. Like 100+ brands. So by now you can tell I LOVE THIS PLACE! I am putting my 5 Thumbs Up on Hair of the Dog Eatery! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Do yourself a HUGE favor and get over there now, as in get in your car and drive there immediately! It's that good. Nice job Hair of the Dog Eatery, you guys have got it goin' on and have raised the bar on Cool Bistro Eateries in Hampton Roads! I'll be back, again and again!

Hair of the dog is beyond just your hangover drink and food savior. This place is one of the best brunch places in the area locally. The food is outstanding. Service is great (at both locations) and the owner definitely knows what he's doing. Don't miss out on something that can't be duplicated.

A fun place. Menu is limited for someone with my dietary restrictions, but it could be worse. I do wish they'd switch the menu up once in a while or feature more specials. Still, a fine place to have a beer and a bit to eat.

It seems like forever now I've been hearing everyone say "You have to go to Hair of the Dog". Well I recently did and have to say that I had a really solid lunch there. It was Mom's birthday and I had taken her shopping. After running through Pembroke Mall and some other joints in Town Center we headed over to HOD and had no trouble getting a seat right away.

We both ended up ordering Bacon Cheeseburgers and then took a look around the place as we waited. The inside The lower part of the walls are a dark stained wood, as are the chairs and benches. The place sorta felt like an English pub to me. There was also seating outside however on my visit it was lightly raining, otherwise I would have been out there. One thing I noticed was that at the tables there were a pair of USB ports installed in the wall so that you could charge your phone or tablet. Nice touch. I like seeing that.

Our burgers came out and they were delicious. Mine was cooked just as I had asked, Medium Well, and was just perfect as can be. The beer battered fries were also a nice touch. There's nothing in this world like some burnt animal flesh and with fried starch. YUM!

Our server was also excellent. I forgot his name but he keep our drinks full and made sure we had napkins and that everything was to our satisfaction. Excellent service. I understand that HOD has opened a second location closer to home down near ODU and I'm looking forward to checking that out soon. Great job guys!

Vinegar Eggs. Went with my husband and a couple of friends and found most of the food to be okay. Not great. But my friend got eggs Benedict and couldn't eat the eggs! They tasted like vinegar. Everyone at the table tried them and agreed they were bad.

Unaccommodating, insulting and unhospitable. My fiancé and I live nearby the Hair of the Dog. In the past, we've enjoyed the convenient location and comfort food but the greeting I've experienced the last two weeks has caused me to leave in search of other options.

Last weekend, my mom entered to request a table for 6 at 8:30am. She observed a mostly vacant restaurant with a group of tables put together for presumably an incoming party. The server suggested a 4 person booth for the party of 6. In response, my mom asked if we could join two of the empty tables to avoid cramming. The server insisted the booth was the best option and added that there was an incoming party that may need the seating. We decided to leave the HOTD for a breakfast place down the street we knew we could be accommodated.

Today, we came back under similar circumstances, excusing last week's behavior as a fluke. This time there was no incoming party and our party was of 5. The server sat 3 of our 5 at a 4 top while we waited for the remaining members of our party. She stated we could join another table after the others showed. We waited nearly 5 minutes for a server to ask us if we wanted coffee or beverages while we waited. Instead, the hostess returned and asked us to get up and wait at the bar. Keep in mind, we were sat and not taking up any more space than we already had filled. Reminding the hostess of those facts, we were again declined service. We left the restaurant again.

Hair of the Dog has been in our eatery rotation since it opened a while back but I believe today was my last visit. Ultimately, the benefit of its location are being outweighed by the consistently poor service and attitude towards its guests.

AMAZING!!!!!!. Husband and I had the most pleasant experience. My husband had the Chicken and Waffles and I quote " Babe, you have to try this". I did and it was nothing short of spectacular. I went for the Shrimp and Grits. Though not your "traditional" style I found their interpretation with a little bit of a creole style very delicious. WE WILL BE BACK!!

Lousy food, wretched service...avoid this place!. Today I decided to give this place a try--and I really wish I hadn't.

Even though the restaurant was almost empty when I sat down, my buffalo chicken sandwich took a strangely long time to arrive. When it did, it was tough, dry, and overcooked--the worst buffalo chicken sandwich I can ever remember. The meat was thin and stringy, the sauce was weak, the bun was small and unpleasantly greasy.

When I asked one waitress for the check, she gave me a hard flat glare as she walked by. When I told another waitress it hadn't been a good sandwich, she brushed me off and told me she didn't work in the kitchen. There was no indication that anyone actually cared whether I liked my food, much less that it mattered if I came into the restaurant at all. The degree of hostility was worse than anything I've seen in years.

I walked out of there hungry, frustrated and feeling like an unwanted customer. I won't be going back.

Portions here are no joke and beer selection is on point.

Best breakfast place in VA, Beach!

Finally. This was by far the best new addition to the area EVER! It is rare to find a place where every dish is truly delish, but that is exactly what you will find here. From the breakfast Monte cristo, chicken and waffles, buffalo chicken sandwich, everything is homemade and spectacular! Best bloodys in town. Must try the Ricky Bobby and Porkys Revenge. Also the Gouda Mac is insane!!!! Must go!!!!! Oh, and if you love pancakes these are the most massive around!

Fun and different. I'd never eaten a meatloaf sandwich. It was delicious. I ordered the Mac and cheese and a side salad with blu cheese dressing. They make their own dressings. All of the selections were excellent. The best dish was probably the flat bread app. If you are just going in for a beer, I recommend adding the flat bread.
Service was good. They were busy. Pleasant atmosphere. The chef even came out to speak to us and ask if we were happy with our dinner. I'll eat there again.

Great Place for Lunch. Stopped by for Lunch with my Wife and after our waitress explained the menu and made 10 suggestions between the breakfast and lunch menu we both ordered the signature Hair of the Dog Burger. It comes served with a fried egg and in between 2 waffles. The burger was cooked perfectly, the egg had little taste and the bottom waffle was soggy. My Wife ordered the Gouda Mac and Cheese and I had regular fries which were cooked perfectly as well. Our waitress was very courteous, attentive and extremely knowledgeable of the menu and food.

Tasty food with a great drink selection. Came here recently and got the fried chicken with bacon infused waffles. Food was delicious and filling and the selection of beers left me satisfied. I sat at the bar so I cannot attest to the other reviewers bad service.

My husband came in this morning to try breakfast. While the food was the decent the service was HORRIBLE! There were plenty of open tables but we were told there would be a fifteen minute wait for the wait staff to catch up...I was a little confused because they didn't seem busy at all. Once we were seated we waited another fifteen minutes for someone to take our drink order. After placing our food order and having another table that was sat after us almost complete their meal I went inside and asked about our order. It had been sitting in the window for quite sometime. After getting our meal they actually forgot to ring in one of our meals so we received that about 15 minutes later. Needless to say we will not be visiting this place again! Very disappointed!

WONDERFUL AND DELICIOUS. We have been to Hair of the Dog several times and each time the food gets better and better. We have brought new friends each time and they too have been delighted. The unique drinks and new delicious deserts make it a top spot that we highly recommend.
Remember if a place is good it will be crowded. Crowded means you have to bring your patience, the drinks and food will be worth it, that is what the crowd is there for. Smile and enjoy.
P.S. with having brought over 35 folks there NO ONE has ever had cold food that wasn't supposed to be served cold. :)

Attended Hair of the Dog yesterday. Sat outside and waited at least twenty minutes for a server to approach us. Asked the server for three waters and a beer menu, took another 20 minutes just to get the waters. Never a beer menu. Then he disappeared again! So I decided to take it a pond my
Self to so inside and grab a beer. Went up to the bar where the bartender had one couple at the bar took ten minutes for her to approach me. Then I asked for a beer... The response was.. Little early to be drinking.. ?!?! What?!? Maybe I work all night and want to get off and have a beer with my breakfast... Who are you to say that... Well by the time I got back with my beer the server was short behind me... And we ordered out food... Well after waiting an hour out food came out! Cold and disgusting. By far the worst food I have ever eaten.. Would if loved to sent it back but again. No waiter to be found. So finally after 30 minutes I went found him paid and hauled ass! This place was by far the worst place I have ever eaten at. I will
Never return and heard the same from
The table next to us...

Yummy Breakfast!. Decadent and delicious. My daughter loved the chocolate chip cookie dough pancakes and I had the chicken and waffles. I forgot to order them without gravy (I'm not a huge gravy fan), but the waffle was light and delicious and the fried chicken was moist and not the least bit greasy. I'll be back to try their other dishes soon.
