Uncle Julio's

First time coming here. My family ordered kids taco she loved it. My oldest had enchiladas chicken. Wife had chicken fajitas she love the homemade tortilla. I had the steak fajitas I would say one of the best steak fajitas in 20 years of eating steak across America. If your hungry and near a Uncle Julios stop in eat. I will be back here to try everything. Bravo Uncle Julio's.

Update: I'm updating my review because the GM reached out to me after I left my review. He offered for us to come back and have a meal on him, but since we don't live in town, he treated us to dinner at the Frontenac location in St. Louis. We went and gave Uncle Julio's another try. We were very impressed. This experience was 10 times better, and the food was amazing. We will definitely be back, and if we make it back to Chicago, we will give this location another chance. I think it speaks volumes about this business for the GM to reach out and want to make it right. Not many businesses would do this. Thank you, Ross, for going the extra mile when you didn't have to. Orginal review: We were in town for soccer games the weekend Nov 3rd. We decided to have a team dinner here because a parent of our group spoke highly about it. We had about 30 people in our party. It took an hour and 30 min for us to get food. I can understand since we had a big party but what I have a problem with is that only half our party got their food. Our food didn't come out with everyone else's. When I asked the manager why, he told me they stagger big orders because everything is made from scratch. Okay, fair enough, I can understand that because it's a lot of food. I would have been okay with that answer if our food had come out shortly after. That was not the case. The manager told me he would check to see how long it would be. He couldn't even come back and tell me. He sent another employee to tell me that they are bumping your ticket up and he was staying in the kitchen until it was finished. Why would they have to bump our ticket up? Shouldn't it have been put in shortly after the other tickets in our party? Now I feel like I was lied to by the manager. My guess is the waiter forgot to put the ticket in. It's understandable since we had multiple orders and different checks, but don't lie about it. Mistakes happen, but honesty is always the best practice. By this time the rest of our party was done eating and our food still hadn't arrived. We asked them to make it to go since everyone else was done. They bring our food to our table in to go boxes and bring the bill. The bill is for the full amount. Okay, fine, we did order, so we should have to pay, but they never once offered any kind of discount for us having to wait. I made a comment to the waiter about it. He took the check back to the manager. They did end up giving us money off, which I appreciate. We left and ate our food at the hotel. The food was okay, probably been better if it was hot from the restaurant instead of luke warm. You would think this would be the end of the review, but nope. I went to check my credit card statement and realized the added a 20% to what I put and signed on the bill. It's pretty shady to add money to someone bill.

Did take out. Curbside pickup was very prompt. The quesadillas were amazing! Wouldn’t recommend the enchiladas, the tortilla wasn’t soft and the sauce wasn’t flavorful. The chips were good and thin, the salsa was watery and not much tomato flavor. The prices were a little steep for Mexican food… but some of the menu items were quality enough to be worth it. Overall would recommend checking out.

We have been coming to Uncle Julio’s since 2002 and the Vernon hills location since it opened. We are not as big of fans since they changed the menu years ago but they still do the table side guac and the bacon wrapped habanero shrimp. Those two combined with the margaritas is what we continue to come once a year for. Those should be your go tos.

The service here was excellent. The atmosphere was great. I have heard the fajitas are also excellent. However the tacos are not. They are at the level of a middle school cafeteria. Way too expensive for too low quality. This review should be a 3.5 star. Everything else was great, which makes this more frustrating to write.
