Review Old Prague Restaurant - Vermilion

Kateřina Vlčková
Drove down here with my american fiancé to have him try some authentic czech food as I come from Czech Republic. We had the duck and goulash and both tasted like home. Our food took slightly longer to make which we didn't mind but we were given a free dessert for the inconvenience anyway. Great service, authentic food, we'll be back.

Great place to try our first Czech food. In a neat part of town and an easy walk to a bunch of other cool stores around. Vermilion.

Entrees feature lean and tender prime meats. Schnitzels are light and airy as expected with an authentic representation. All soups and sides are home made the way they've been for decades now. Excellent Beer and Wine menu, music, outdoor tables and European decor.

Great place for Slovakian food, patio is a wonderful spot and a fantastic friendly staff. Family and friends of 13 called ahead for proper seating but very enjoyable atmosphere. Also has great Czech beers in a bottle.

The pretzels and potato pancakes we had for appetizers were delicious. Unfortunately that was the end of the positive impression I had of this restaurant. The chicken paprikash was awful; the plate arrived to the table lukewarm, and the chicken, which was covered in a bland orange sauce, hid away chicken so tough and dry, it felt like it was cooked in boiling tap water and forgotten about after a couple of hours. The spaetzles on the side were also devoid of any flavor. $17 for this dish is a joke. Also, the men’s restroom doesn’t even have a functioning door lock, so prepare for yourself to walk in on other patrons using the restroom or to have someone walk in on you. I have never felt compelled to post a negative review of a restaurant until I dined here. At least I didn’t get food poisoning.

Nice patio area but unfortunately not impressed with the food. The appetizers (potato pancake, pretzels) and beer were probably best part of the meal.

Party of 4...decent atmosphere but wasn't thrilled with the paprikash. Probably just me because I love Your Deli paprikash in Amherst. Wasnt bad,, but not my favorite.. Sorry if I upset anyone with that..lol

This place reminded us of something that should be on Restaurant Impossible. Mediocre, overpriced food, outdated decor, and the managers, we assume, were heard yelling at the waitress to get the food on the table after a long wait on a day that wasn't busy. We will not return.

Slow-paced, authentic winter fare. Dining at the Old Prague restaurant in Vermilion is like traveling to the Old World for dinner. The setting is intimate and never changes. The menu is also dependably Old World. The schnitzel is remarkable and compares favorably to the same dish served in Prague according to my wife who visited that European city years ago. The pork with sauerkraut and dumplings is a great winter night's meal. My son loves the roasted duck. Also, great soups and unusual desserts are a must here. The food is delicious, old-fashioned, and best enjoyed in cold weather as it is plentiful and hardy. The restaurant offers a full bar and many beer choices as well. The servers are friendly, but the pace is slow as these meals are intended to be enjoyed, and not rushed. I have always found the Old Prague to be quiet, intimate, and authentic. Look elsewhere if you are seeking warmed up fast food.

Wooley bear festival. Water tasted bad. They should consider a water filter. Chicken paprikash was bland. Shishki was dry. Lack of servers on a day where over 100,000 people were expected in town. Would not recommend or return.

Roasted Chicken*. A full half chicken with just the right seasoning and it falls off the bone.

-----20 Sep, 2014-----

Outstanding!. The food and service have made this among my favorite restaurants.

We were taking a drive on Saturday afternoon and stopped by the restaurant. The half chicken was dry, as if I was eating jerky. The Perch dinner was fishy tasting. Very disappointed. Only one waitress and the cook also had to cover the tables.

My fiancée and I like trying new places, things and foods. We pulled in somewhat hesitantly since they were empty at 7:00 on a Friday night. A server named Tyler helped us with our selections and we were very pleased. My fiancée had the kielbasa sandwich and I had the Svicova and both were delicious. From the service to the food I highly recommend giving it a try

Old Prague has slipped a little. We had a late lunch last Sunday when we were driving though Vermilion. We have eaten at Old Prague many times over the years and always had good meals. We were disappointed this time. My wife's chicken paprikash was quite bland and my roast pork was way too salty. When I mentioned the salty pork to our waiter (who was actually a cook filling in as a waiter) after we finished, he said that I should have mentioned this when I first tasted my entree and he could have corrected this. Apparently if the cook does not realize that the water has cooked away and added more, the pork gets too salty. He did offer to take some money off our check. I need to speak up when I'm dissatisfied with my order.

Outstanding Czech-German Fare. Old Prague is a terrific restaurant. It is not fancy, but has great, homemade German and Czech food. My wife and I both ordered the duck. I have had duck many times, including in 5-star restaurants, but none compared to Old Prague. The skin was perfectly browned and crispy and the meat juicy, tender and delicious. The sides complimented the duck very well. I also highly recommend the potato soup. Our server was helpful, enthusiastic and attentive. All in all a great experience. The only downside was the live piano playing bad Broadway show tunes, but even that added some small town charm.
