El Mexicano

Walking in we were blown away by how big the place is. Lots of seating and spacious tables and booths, which is important when we bring in our children (it's no fun to be crammed into a booth). We were started off with tasty chips and probably the freshest tasting salsa I have had in a while. (and perfectly chunky!) I always have a hard time choosing what to order at similar restaurants with huge menus and combo plates that kind of all end up tasting the same. I went with the Special Plate because I wanted to try it all. I was not disappointed! Wow! First of all, the plate was hilariously huge - but also every single thing on that plate was delicious! My husband ordered the enchiladas reales and was impressed too. He especially loved the cheese sauce. Our server (Wilmer, I believe?) was great too. Overall, we were very pleased with our date night choice and will be back with the whole family.

The place is a beautiful use of space. The look is contemporary Mexican restaurant. With all due respect we are over 1400 miles from Mexico, in my opinion the menu is very bland. Prices seem to be in line with average casual dining. Unfortunately the wait staff left something to be desired. We wanted margaritas as you do...which was not on the menu. When asked the waiter said on the back of menu. Which they were not. Then I asked him to show me...he pointed at bottled beer list. If someone else is paying I would go back. This ace is not bad just disappointing. 2 medium margaritas and the cheapest nachos was $26

My husband and I love to go here just to relax and drink a couple margaritas, the food is really good. I suggest the chicken Nacho Reals or the chicken fajitas, my husband likes the spicy/shredded chicken burritos. I like the chicken over the beef. Had a lot of experiences here, they love our kids and us and on my birthday they even gave me a complementary shot of tequila. I would rather come here than the other Mexican restaurant in Van Wert. I would say we would be a regular here lol.

Beginning to end the worst experience with Mexican food. Not one person was friendly from the person who sat us, the lady who dropped off our chips, our server Alaina, and guy who checked us out. The food was flavorless and the margaritas I had to order an extra shot to make it tolerable. When we asked what our servers favorite dish was she told us that she makes her own food in the back, then proceeded to tell us what other people ordered. Which after eating I realized why she makes her own food. When our waitress did check on us it was like we inconvenienced her. To top it off they placed a bowl onto my food I would be eating, cross contamination, idk where the bottom of that bowl was and now it's touching food that I'm going to eat. The other plate had so much grease from bacon and chorizo but it was flavor? Needless to say we will not be going back which is sad for a new restaurant.

A good place to stop in. Was a little busy. No wait. We were a party of 4. All said they could come back. I wasn't really planning on it but is ok. I had steak strips in a grand tortilla. W peppers n onions. Some lettuce salad w a slice of tomato. A bit of cheese. There was a nice size dollop of guacamole. However all 4 of us couldn't eat it. It was either missing salt n lime juice or had an odd taste. The chip basket n salsa was nice. Better salsa than 2 other places I've been lately. 3 had rice n beans, all good. None left. 1 had 2 ckn quesadillas. First thing was said" where's the cheese. But ended up eating both & liked it fine. Waiter was pretty good. Pay up front at entry. Pics will be added. Not a bad place to stop & unwind.

Tonight was our 2nd time dining at Cilantro in VW and definitely will be our last. Most of our party's food was wrong again and waiter was rude about it like it was our fault. When I told him that my order wasn't right he muttered something very disrespectful (in spanish) and walked away and never tried to make it right. I'm completely blown away at how utterly awful their service was. BTW, I speak and understand Spanish pretty well...which is why we'll NEVER be back!.
