Local Joe's Pizza And Delivery

Ordered a pizza and some wings at 4:30pm after a fun filled day on the slope. We were starving, and we were told one hour wait. No problem. I set my phone down to take a shower and the pizza guy apparently couldn’t find the house even though it was on Google and Apple Maps. I mentioned on the phone when I ordered that it was a house. He was looking in a nearby apartment complex. I call back five minutes later and he decided to leave and go deliver other orders on the complete opposite end of town before ours. Another hour later, the pizza shows up super cold, and barely with an apology. Telling us we should give better instructions to the house on the phone next time. Spoke on the phone with the manager, Pat, and he said it was our fault for not answering the phone. I told him I called him back five minutes later and he said that doesn’t matter and that the delivery guy was super busy. So the extra hour wait we spent was justified. Wouldn’t offer a refund or anything. Would not recommend.

I gave two stars vs one star because they are the only place that actually did delivery! However that’s all they did. It took over an hour to get it delivered. We got the Daisy. Sounded like a margarita pizza, it has all the same ingredients, but not really the same. Dry basil vs fresh basil as a key example. So it was a flavorless cheese pizza with no sauce and thin regular tomato slices with dry basil sprinkled all over. Also got the appetizer sampler. All the things are supposed to be deep fried. (Cheese sticks, jalapeño poppers, Mac N Cheese bites) All three where thawed, but all three where raw uncooked batter on the outside. (See picture)

I will start off by saying that the young lady who took our order over the phone was very kind and personable and I always appreciate that in the service industry. However, the quality of food, pricing, atmosphere and overall experience was highly underwhelming. The sandwiches we ordered were ridiculously small and had very little meat and toppings on them. You could honestly get more for your money by going to Subway. The entrees don’t come with any side options, which wouldn’t be an issue if the food was impressive, but it isn’t. We also ordered the “Ain’t No Daisy” pizza, which sounded as though it would be like a margarita pizza, except it was glorified bland garlic bread with dried basil versus fresh basil and it was SUPER greasy. I understand that charging appropriately for food and service in Vail is important, but making it worth your customer’s money is important as well. Sadly, this was unimpressive at best.

If you can figure out how to get here, you need to do it. The pizza is awesome and the service is just as great. We got there on a Friday night and it was empty except for 2 locals, but started to fill up. They were doing a pretty good amount of deliveries, so the kitchen and one front guy were busy busy. He was amazing- literally running from place to place (and this place is TINY) to answer phones, package food for delivery, and make drinks as it got busier and filled up. We ordered a vegetarian pizza that had this creamy pesto sauce. We added sausage and mushrooms to it. Oh man....so Good! The 14" was plenty for 2 of us plus leftovers. The crust is a little thicker than I typically like, but so good I ate every bit! Tender yet crispy. There was some kind of seasoning on the outer crust that made me go back for more. We make it a point to visit here anytime we are in Vail.

Look. This place is a local dive not a four seasons. It was EXACTLY what we were looking for. Patio dining, our dog sat in view, we got drinks and some delicious garlic cheese bread (wow that crust was good, crispy but soft inside). If you are looking for a " fine dining sit down bring yo tie" type of place than you aren't rating this place for what it has to offer. If you want a casual place to forget your worries and enjoy some friendly local people, straight forward drinks, and delicious apps we can tell you this is THE SPOT.
