I've been wanting to try this place for a long time. It's really small and very busy, but it lives up to its excellent reviews. I had the Huarache Azteca with Al Pastor (grilled pork) and it was absolutely the best. Geri had her favorite, beef enchiladas and the sauce was just over the top! They serve 4 small carafes of salsa on each table, one is a very good mild tomato salsa with cilantro, one ups the heat substantially with chipotles, one is extremely hot, and one is a mild to medium salsa verde. All good, but the salsa verde was a green chili-cilantro lime salsa that reminded me so much of the green chili served in Santa Fe. Everything was excellent and by the time we left, people were spilling out the door to wait for tables. My huarache was made on a freshly made, oval tortilla (thus the name, which roughly translates into 'sandal'). Service is quick and efficient, because given its limited space, I would expect they want to 'turn and burn' the tables. It's worth any kind of wait and the portions required us to get boxes to take out. Priced moderately and worth every penny.
This is perhaps the BEST Mexican food I've ever had.....outside of Mexico. This place is a small business that puts out serious authentic food....all I can say is WOW.....and I'm a Mexican food snob.
Casual Mexican dining that makes top marks for all the basics. I've spent a few months in Mexico in numerous states, and I think this food is awesome! Lots of vegetarian and vegan options, too. Nice atmosphere and lots of booth seating in this cozy restaurant. Colorful walls and Mexican art to liven up the place along with patterned textile cloths on the tables. And the most important aspect? Authentic, original, tasty array of salsas, which any really good Mexican restaurant will have. <3 the way they serve their salsas, too. The four varieties come out in a little hand carrier with mini carafes and several little cups for tasting. There was a mild pico de gallo, a super spicy roasted chili (my favorite), a medium creamy red, and a creamy medium green. Bravo!
Best Mexican food place in town, at a great price point
Always fast. Always great food! I highly recommend this place.
Finally stopped for breakfast after the Urbana Famers Market. This was a mistake, we should have had breakfast here for years. It's the best! Way too many choices on Breakfast Menu, which is like 4 or 5 pages.
I love the food. Amazing taste , it's always fresh and prices are just right! It would be great if they can get a bigger place, but overall it's a great place to eat!
Huaraches Moroleon is amazing. I have eaten here twice and it has been fantastic both times. I would recommend this mexican restaurant over any other in CU.
This place is the best !!!! Great fresh food and wonderful outside seating in the warm months!
Hands down the best Mexican food in town,,don't miss this place
Great food and friendly service. Love the tongue tacos (lingua). One of very few Mexican restaurants here that serve those.
My family has eaten there twice. This time around my parents were in town. My mother grew up in rural Arizona and knows good Mexican food. She said it was the best she has had in Illinois after living here for the past 20 years. Not sure I'd go that far, but we think it is great. We generally like the "hole in the wall" type of establishment. Great selection of fillings - tips, barbecue, charizo, etc. . . Four salsas to choose from or mix. So far so good. Definitely worth a try.
Service is friendly and the Mexican food is great! Authentic little restaurant. Fajitas are good, and a good value.
Nice little place in Urbana. They were great at accommodating a group of 10, it was a little tight but they made it happen for us and we were so grateful. They also did split the checks for us which was great because it made things so much easier. Our server was Braulio (or something with a B) and he was so nice too.
This is my neighborhood spot! I come here every week. It has a cozy atmosphere, friendly and welcoming staff, and delicious food. I hope this place stays a local gem forever. In the summer, the patio is a great place to enjoy a margarita and tacos outdoors with cooling fans. In the winter, they are always reliably open and I’ve reliably been able to eat here even on national holidays. Always a fan! Highly recommend this place and I always take out of town guests here.
The food was absolutely delicious, couldn’t have asked for anything better. The burritos were insanely huge- good serving sizes for the price. The peach & strawberry mimosa’s were amazing. Thank you for a great experience while my bestfriend & i were visiting Urbana!
The food was authentic and delicious, and the service was great! 👏🏾 I had the Birria Huarache and it was incredible 🤤 very worth it!
Nice little restaurant. Good food. Traditional Mexican atmosphere. Great service. The waiter answered all of our questions. Parking is very limited. They gave us three different types of salsa with your chips and accommodated our special requests. Some dishes come with whole beans instead of refried. I'd give them 4.5 stars, but google don't let me
After hearing about this restaurant many times from friends at the university, I finally got to try this local joint in Urbana, and it definitely did not disappoint! I tried out their Bandera Enchiladas and their shrimp appetizer and everything was cleanly prepared and delicious. Everything also came out fast (great service all around!) and was also reasonably priced. I’ll be returning here and will also continue to recommend this as a lunch/dinner option to my friends.
WHY IS THIS PLACE SO GOOD!!!
I always make sure I come whenever in Champaign. Just a nice family vibe and great portions, amazing quality. My personal favourites are their chorizo meat, horchata (I get a jug) and the spicy burrito (yum cheese sauce). I wish they open near my place but I am 10 hours away from them.

Love the variety of sauces they offer with their delicious chips. I think the chips are home-made. The main dish was delicious too. I'm not a big fan of Mexican food but I DO like me some authentic Mexican food!
We’ve been going here for years, and I have yet to have a better - and more - authentic taco in my life.
Lots of other things on the menu look delicious, but we’ve deviated from tacos a couple of times and have wished we didn’t.
Margaritas are decent, and taco tortillas are double, and corn. They’re topped with diced white onion and cilantro, and the al pastor, carnitas, and chicken tacos are our favorites (and they’re $2.15 each!).
Outdoor seating when it’s nice out, tortilla chips aren’t too greasy, and there are 4 different salsas on the tables, all of which are amazing!
I can't say enough about how amazing the food is here. My wife and I had an amazing lunch. We sampled a couple different meat options with tacos. Our main course was the parillada! It came with so much meat! We both ate on it there and two more meals at home. This is the most authentic restaurant in the CU area in my opinion! Do your taste buds a favor and eat here many many times!!!
It’s alright. I think it caters to palettes that like less seasoned food and flavors that aren’t as strong. I personally find their food on the bland side.
A little Mexican culinary gem in Champaign/Urbana. Spicy Guac+chips were great. Food was hot and delicious. Will try again if passing through.
Enjoyed a lunch with family. I had tacos al pastor others had cheese enchiladas and a big burrito. The food was okay and portions were generous, and included complimentary chips and salsa.( Not very spicy.) Our server was very attentive and prompt, and prices are reasonable. Parking is very limited so you may have to park behind the restaurant on the street. They have patio dining as well as inside ... A range of adult beverages are also available. A decent if unexceptionable place for some Mexican food.
The food here is really great. I'd confidently say that it's the most authentic Mexican-styled food in the entire Champaign-Urbana area.
The food and service are consistently great, although due to the small locations size there is often a wait to be seated, especially on weekends.
Some of the most notable dishes I've tried are the Chile Relleno dinner with queso topping, as well as the fajita and taco dinners.
Their salsa selections is also excellent. If you like a little spice, try the orange salsa!
Small restaurant tucked away in Urbana. Excellent lunch. Pretty standard zillion choices of entries, but the pretty seating area & very nice staff was an unexpected gem. Very clean bano. Looks like they do a large carry-out business too. I'll get back there. Park across the street... drivers slow down.
Fast , friendly service. Food was great. Place was clean and welcoming. Parking lot is a little unusual. Great place to eat my nephew insists we go here every time we are in town and we all happily agree!
One of the waiters brought chips to our table then never came back to us. He began to serve the table right near us and we tried to get his attention. We were trying to get someone to take our drink/food order for about 20 minutes until a different person helped us.
