Haafiz Food Mart

Small hole in a wall joint for bangladeshi/bengali groceries + small take out section with great guy who cares about food running it. They have the typical frozen Bengali fishes, goat meat, liver and some take out options including kathi roll, tandoor items and biryani. We wanted to grab something quick so got the Tandoori bone in fish (pomfret) and some chicken biryani. Loved the Tandoori fish as it was a lovely pomfret. Perfect spicing as it didn't need any lemon or chutney. Chicken biryani was great too (I love the fact it was spiced well without being overtly kolkata style with potatoes and atar over powering everything) In the 15 mins we were waiting for the food (we ordered in store), chit chatting with the owner made us realize that the owner actually cares about the food he was serving and that passion showed through. I hope he ends up with a restaurant some day as I would love to see more options :-) Definitely will be going back to taste the kathi rolls which I miss from back home

Solid 4 stars for the to-go food. Chicken biryani was very flavorful and spiced and the chicken was tender. The rice was more moist than I were used to but leftovers disappeared quick. Samosa's are well priced at a dollar a piece and the chutney was tasty. Would return for a neighbourhood store. Did not peruse grocery selection, but it seemed more of a butcher/meat counter and take-out place.

They have the best Bangladeshi food in bay area. The owner himself is a chef and the taste of each item is authentic and delicious. If you are a foodie of Bangladeshi/West Bengal cuisine, its a must try place. I tried the goat haleem, tandoori chicken and goat curry; all of them were damn delicious with the perfect blend of spice in them.
