Review Ellie's Mutt Hut & Vegetarian - Ukiah

This place is insanely good and fantastic service. The menu is extensive but it was all simply delicious. We went for lunch at the last minute. Very casual but so enjoyable. We had chorizo tacos, avo chicken salad and one of their special recipe Johnny cakes for something sweet at the end. Very reasonable priced and generous portions. For good American and Mexican food with a casual but authentic vibe, look no further. Catalina was our server and she gets a 10/10. We loved it!

For those of you who are EMH virgins, know this: there is no better all-around home cooking spot for breakfast & lunch for 50 miles along Highway 101 between Cloverdale and Willits. Ellie’s is super well-staffed, which means customers are greeted, helped, and served in record time. Plenty of comfort food (sausage patties, flapjacks) + healthy food (tofu scramble, avocado toast) for breakfast, ditto for lunch. Outdoor shaded patio dining means there’s space for well-behaved dogs. N the bathrooms are ADA accessible and clean. This is a big-time locals hangout, and the prices reflect both the region (reasonable plate prices) yet are not cheap (coffee is $3.50 , fresh-squeezed OJ is $8.50). But the coffee is refillable — we were given a thermos — and the OJ was fabulous.

The vegetarian restaurant for both vegetarians and meat eaters! My wife and I stopped in on a whim and we were very pleasantly surprised about the food. The menu what is simple straightforward. We really enjoyed the big spud. The tofu was surprisingly good. The spices really made the dish. My wife had extra vegetables on hers and the grain was really well cooked. We also had the tortilla soup and the broccoli soup which was very tasty. To finish it all off I ordered the blackberry milkshake which had real blackberries in it. All in all a very enjoyable and affordable meal. I would highly suggest going if you are in Ukiah.

If you like breakfast, as much as I do, you need to try Ellie's! They serve till early evening, but I'm a regular for breakfast. Always consistent, great flavors, selection, ingredients, service, & locally owned and operated! Can't be beat!

They have a separate Vegan menu so be sure to ask for it. The vegan tacos were delicious. The staff was young but were all working hard and getting the job done. Food came out quickly and was hot and fresh!

Great food, great service, lots of vegan options-- they even have a vegan menu! Ellie's has been a classic here in Ukiah forever. It's always a great spot for a quick meal or a relaxing visit with friends.

I left Ukiah over 18 years ago, but this place is one of the few things I miss, especially the tofu scramble. I’ve begged to have it shipped to me overnight (frozen, dry ice, FedEx, bulk purchase stork delivery….any way possible) and they said they can’t do it. I’d eat it every day if I could. My daughter recently visited Ukiah and brought me back a tofu scramble on the plane with her. I stretched it out for 2 days and it was everything amazing it always was even after all these years. I wish they’d open locations in central TX, and they’d be packing folks in, but would be worth the wait!

Carrots look and taste like they were frozen for a year and put in a microwave. I love places that cater to vegetarians so they get a pass. Hopefully they do better.

Love going to Ellie's! We ride motorcycles up there 3-4 times a year if not more. The best Butternut Squash Soup ever!! Friends enjoy the vegetarian options and I get BLT.

Great and speedy service with friendly people. I moved here a few years ago and found this place across the street from my job. The food is delicious and fresh. Now that I have moved away, I make it a point to stop in town for this place specifically. I highly recommend the Chicken Avocado Salad! I’ve actually never had anything bad here.

Every time I've gone in there's something wrong with my food: frozen veggie burger, over cooked yet cold veggies on my burnt baked potato, hot chocolate that's very watered down doesn't taste like chocolate and is cold, burnt Johnny cake, and forgotten items in our orders. After a year of giving this place multiple chances, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone unless you only want French fries and milkshakes (only good things I've encountered at this establishment.)

I believe Ellie’s has possibly the worst customer service in ukiah. I used to love it so much but the crappy attitudes just are not worth it. Past few times I’ve been there they have messed up my food and forgotten items. I completely give up with trying to go there and I will recommend that you guys get better servers and teach them how to properly act. Also will advise everyone to not go there.

I have been going to Ellie's for as long as I can remember, 16+ years and the food is always fresh and delicious! I have not had a dish that I did not like and with such a large variety of items on the menu that is difficult to do. Ellie's can always be counted on as a staple in ukiah!

Wasn't happy at all with the service today..I come in I order a French Dip which was outrageous . it cost over 9 bucks for a French Dip. They had bunch of waitresses and hardly no cooks. I stood there for over 35 minutes waiting on my French Dip. You would think for the cost of the French Dip you would get French Fries with the order. It's not even a big size French Dip. Also they acted like it was no big deal . they didn't even let me know 20 minutes into my wait time how Much longer it would be. They should say hey sir for over 30 minutes of waiting for your French Dip would u like something to drink..and the Lady that finally gave me my order didn't even say sorry for your wait. There was a couple of us complained today. The guy before me was mad.. Wasn't worth no $9 plus dollars by no means . Rip off you ask me. And terrible services. Don't recommend anyone eat at this dive. Rude all the way around and slow . wouldn't pay $9.25 for a French dip ever. Should of looked at the price first .

I had traveled from Manteca CA to have lunch here. So friendly and clean. The food is delicious. Farm fresh. Homemade bread. Just a great place to have breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Great for any meal! Strawberry JohnnyCakes are the best... and another secret version of them!

Haven't lived in Ukiah for 12 years, but whenever I come home, this is one of my favorites to visit!! The Marinated Chicken Sandwich on French Roll is beyond amazing!!! A little something for everyone!!

My black bean chili was cold. Didn’t even eat it. The food is usually great.

Been going here since I was 14,...Absolutely love this place, the people, the food, the home town feeling. I eat here at least once if not twice a week. My favorite.

Stayed as couple for 5 days. Great location close to Earls Court subway, great pubs and restaurants. Staff very attentive, big comfy clean rooms and good breakfast and dinners. Dauly cleaning staff did a great job.

The food was very good! Great selection of Veg friendly items! Overall very good choice. This is what I am sure is a local favorite as parking was a little bit of a challenge!

Always Fresh & Delicious. I have been eating here for over 10 years & have never gotten a bad meal. My favorites are the veggie lasagna (as good or better than any lasagna with meat), the BBQ chicken wraps, the chicken avocado salad, the black bean chili, and the California omelet. The poppyseed dressing is the best salad dressing I've ever had. The place is always clean, food is always fresh.

Just don't do it. Resist the urge to succumb to the lure of its 93% rating and, for your own sake, skip it. I ordered the chicken with brown rice. The chicken, cooked with tamari, was decent however, it arrived on a mess of rice, cheddar cheese, and half-assed vegetables. Not pleasant. Obviously, this is a restaurant that gets by on a faithful local clientele despite its dismal food. Also at my table was a "Reuben" that bore no resemblance to its delicious namesake other than pastrami. Cold rye bread, cold pickles, cold cabbage, and stale pastrami topped with mayo and tomato. The chicken burrito used the same tamari-seasoned chicken with a heap of cheese, watery salsa, and beans. It was the most palatable item we ordered. Just bad food all around. Nothing remotely redeems this eatery.

Bad Customer Service!. Our first time here, we had a good experience so we decided to go back. The second time was not so good. It was cold and rainy and I wanted a warm sandwich. They have grilled ham and cheese, but I don't like ham and I wanted something more substantial than grilled cheese. I asked if they could do a tuna melt(they have tuna salad) and they said yes. When it came out the cheese wasn't melted at all and the tuna was straight-out-of-the-refrigerator cold. The only part that was warm was the grilled bread. They offered to microwave it for me! I said no thanks, I will just get something else. I sat down to look at the menu again and the cashier came out to tell me that their cooks "aren't trained to cook that item since it's not on the menu" and "they don't have that expertise". Seriously?! So they can melt cheese on a grilled ham and cheese but they can't melt cheese on anything else? How much expertise does it take to heat food? Not wanting to argue, I went to order something else which they tried to charge me for. The price difference between the tuna melt and the burrito I ordered to replace it was 25 cents. She had to get it ok'd by the manager for me to pay just the price difference and that was done begrudgingly. After I sat down again, the people at the table next to us got milkshakes. The woman had ordered a chocolate milkshake and it was pink. She tasted it and told the server that it was strawberry (hence the pink color)and the server argued with her! It doesn't seem like they care about food quality or customer service. I will not be going back again!

This sucked. I ordered black bean nachos. The salsa was awsome, but they actually uses a combination of pre-shredded cheese and velveeta. I think I had a total of 20 actual black beans too. Wouldn't eat there very often.

BEST VEGGIE CUISINE IN UKIAH. Ellie's Mutt Hut has been in business for quite a while. Their service is fast, the environment is enjoyable, their staff is friendly, and they have had veggie options longer than any other restaurant in the area. They have perfected the art of serving their customer the freshest, tastiest, unique dishes. One could order wild rice with tofu and yogurt, BBQ chicken wraps, chili hot dogs, and my favorite green smoothies. This is truly the only place you can find the best food in town. I would rate it 5 stars.
