Review El Rio Verde - Tulsa

We were in town for a fews days and ate here twice! We ate here on 10/1/23 & 10/3/23. The restaurant is in a sketchy looking area but, in our experience, this is where the best food is found. The place is not very big and it was packed full of people. We were greeted promptly and told to sit where we wanted. Service is excellent and everything was delicious. I had the wet burrito both times and Buttercup had tacos one time and a torta the next. I also had ceviche one time and it did not disappoint. I wish we were in the area more. We would definitely be regulars. We highly recommend this place!!! 2weekendtravelers

Out working and need a good lunch? Be sure to stop in and grab yourself a quick bite. The food is both flavorful and filling.

Update! Came back with my husband and he fell in love! Still not a fan of the chips and salsa but these fajita steak burritos were delicious šŸ˜‹ Read reviews and had to try while visiting Tulsa.. Went with a friend (we are from Mustang, OK) and my daughter in law from California. We started with chips and salsa wasn't impressed with that at all but the dinner, atmosphere and service was phenomenal šŸ‘Œ

Laid-back atmosphere, amazing quality food! If you have a big family, you can still afford to eat here. Tulsa best!!

Another hidden gem that's close to downtown Tulsa. I had the wet burrito, and let me tell you, this was delicious. I will definitely be going back here when I'm back in Tulsa.

Good food and great prices. I didnā€™t care for the cheese on top of the enchiladas, I would have preferred more red sauce. Itā€™s just my preference. The taco salad and chips and salsa were very good. We will be back whenever we visit Oklahoma again.

Really good Mexican food! I tried their "Wet Burrito," which, according to them, is what put them on the map. The "wetness" comes from how much sauce it has. It was a little spicy, but not so much that I was tearing up or anything. The restaurant is located in what looks like a neighborhood, so don't be alarmed if Google Maps is having you drive by a lot of houses. The parking there isn't marked, so it's just kind of whatever you can make into a parking spot. I really enjoyed dining at El Rio Verde and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for good Mexican food in Tulsa!

Only 2 tables with customers and we had to ask for items chips and refills. I had the wet burrito flavor was good. To much salsa but I guess that's why they call it wet. My mothers chicken taquitos were yummy. Place should have some Spanish music going to make it better atmosphere.

The food was really good. I got the Mexican Taco and beans. The beans were amazing. I do wish I had gotten more than one taco because one was not enough. My friend and I really enjoyed the food. It's not expensive either which is great. I went again and had their Taco Salad and it was really good. Highly recommend this place. It's a hole in the wall type of a place and hard to find but so worth finding.

First visit. We will be back! The food is outstanding. Chips and salsa were fresh and flavorful. My husband had the wet burrito and was very pleased. Large serving with lots of filling. I had the chimichanga, wet. Again, large serving, with large amount of beef.

The food was awesome! We had the enchilada combo, wet burrito with beef cheek meat, and shrimp fajitas. Everything tasted great. The service was fast and friendly. And the price was very reasonable! We will definitely go back and will recommend them to others.

This place is where I go when I am missing new Mexico. You will find no better food anywhere in Tulsa. And the price, the price is right. Amazingly inexpensive.

The food is always excellent! There is one server who may need a vacation and appears reluctant to serve you. Otherwise, the staff is as incredible as the food! This is one of my favorite local dives to eat at. Simple is good!

I love this place for lunch. The staff are always fast and the food is very good I like the chicken tortilla soup , shrimp cocktail and street the Tacos. This place gets pretty busy even though it's tucked away in an older neighborhood its definitely a spot I enjoy near downtown tulsa.

Over the past years, I have dined at hundreds of Mexican restaurants in northeastern Oklahoma. An area I define as within the boundaries of I-40 on the south to I-35 on the west. I was searching for a Wet Burrito that would rival the Wet Burrito that has made El Rio Verde a legend and for several years, rated as the best Mexican restaurant in Tulsa. Well, nothing comes close. It is not only the best wet burrito in Tulsa, it is the best in NE Oklahoma, Period! It is what put El Rio Verde on the map. Ok, letā€™s get down to the beans and rice of this issue. And that is a good place to start, beans and rice. Especially now, this burdening inflation has many restaurants stuffing their burritos disproportionately with rice. A cost saver, that will cost the restaurant customers. Too may times you canā€™t find the meat. El Rio Verde continues to provide customers with an equal balance of filling: rice, beans and meat. The meat is fabulous. My top choices are the carne asada, carnitas, shredded beef and the chicken. Carnitas and shredded beef being the top two picks. Wrap all of that up in a large soft flour tortilla. The makings of a nice well-balanced burrito. The defining attribute that sets El Rio Verde apart from the competition; it is truly a wet burrito. There is a plentiful amount of tasty sauce. The menu uses the appropriate word ā€œdrenchedā€ in salsa, not smothered, not covered, or with. There is a difference. Look at the pictures. I have had wet burritos in other restaurants that would be more appropriately called stained burritos. Very little salsa. The ample salsa does a couple of things. It softens the fluffy flour tortilla even more and allows you to dunk and sop it up with a big fork full of beans rice and meat. Enjoyment in every mouthful. There is enough tangy tasty tomato salsa to last beyond the last bite of burrito. Thatā€™s a wet burrito. Thatā€™s what to eat at El Rio Verde! The best! Spikeā€™s inessential commentary and misguided, unsubstantiated opinion: Some restaurants offer burritos ā€œsmotheredā€ in queso, that are passed off as a wet burrito. Diners with little expertise in the matter, fall for the deception. So, whatā€™s the difference between wet and smothered well, think biscuits and gravy. Have you ever had wet biscuits. Or a wet chicken fried steak? No, they are smothered in gravy. I rest my case. A burrito covered in queso is not a wet burrito. Donā€™t be a victim of this common Mexican restaurant scam! You know what a real wet burrito is and you know where to get the best. Next time we will discuss the difference between a burrito and a sancho, and where to find the best ā€œsmothered burritoā€ in Tulsa. Food and service were superb! The restaurant was a total surprise being in the middle of a neighborhood. We had the steak and carnita wet burritos and they were amazing. Don't skip the bowl of queso either, it was the best I've had. This will definitely become a regular stop.

My boyfriend and I love trying huevos rancheros everywhere we go! This place was amazing, the service was great, and the inside is cute & clean.

Excellent food and service. They have huge pepper plants outside that they let us pick some to take home. Great experience, would definitely recommend

We had another wonderful meal today. Huevos rancheros for me & spinach quesadilla for Mr. K. Food heaven! This is real Mexico food here, if u have to have everything smothered in cheese, then a Tex mex place would be better for u. Am hoping for snow so we can have the fish soup!

Itā€™s a small, family owned and operated place right off the interstate. The service, food, and prices were all great. I know that we were there at an off-peak time (3:45 PM on a Wednesday) but we were back on the interstate in less than 30 minutes and didnā€™t hurry at all while we ate. The portions were generous, but not huge. The salsa was excellent and had just enough bite that I really enjoyed it. Although Mexican food isnā€™t usually my first choice, I will definitely be back every chance I get whenever Iā€™m in Tulsa. Very well done!

Wet burrito is the best around. The price for this kind of food is untouchable.

I had the Nachos. The flavors were awesome. I wish I would have gotten queso to put on top though. The service was amazing, fast and kind. The place was packed and it was still really fast service. Husband had the wet burrito and he loved it!!

Canā€™t get anymore authentic than this! I had the famous wet burrito with marinated pork and it didnā€™t disappoint! I thought because it was so huge that I would only eat half and save the rest later, but after diving into it, I was unable to stop! Also tried the guacamole with the chips and salsa and the chucnky bits of tomato, onion, and cilantro made it amazing! Canā€™t wait to go back! Oh! And the prices were reasonable!!

Still the best. Food is always hot and fresh. Affordable prices. Great service. Sad I ever strayed.
