Best and most authentic Japanese food anywhere around these parts. The nice man who makes all the sushi is a master, and has been doing this for as long as I can remember. His wife (I believe) makes all the cooked food in the back kitchen with so much care and love. This is the ultimate family-owned restaurant experience. Try the vegetable udon soup, it is just like magic healing soup!

I lived in Japan for 2 years and this is the most authentic Japanese restaurant I’ve visited since I left. There is one chef who hand crafts every meal with care. I ordered 3 courses miso gyoza and sushi. All came in a timely manner. The waitress was accommodating and quick. What I liked most was the interactions between the customers and the staff. Regular customers came in and they were greeted like they were family. This restaurant is a gem so glad I found it on my quick trip from Vegas!

Great service, and fantastic food. Alice, our server, was very attentive and quick, even though she was the only waitstaff. Will be back soon to try the other dinner specials.

I got take out and was impressed with the quality of the food, how they packaged it all and even included a beautiful rose! It was truly one of the most thoughtful, delicious experiences I've had here in Tucson for take out sushi.

A very cozy Japanese restaurant! Service was very friendly and helpful. Me and a friend went on a Thursday and the restaurant filled up as the night went. We wanted to try a bit of everything so we went all out. I got the unagidon (grillled eel rice bowl), my friend got veggie curry rice and both our mains were fantastic! The eel was delicate and flavorful, the curry delicious and packed with veggies. We also got inarizushi (fried tofu pouch marinated in sweet sauce stuffed with sushi rice) which were really a tasty treat and a few pieces of sushi. The saba nigiri (mackerel) was so good! The temaki spicy crab roll was great. I was surprised to see perennial dim sum favorite shumai were on the menu. These came out super fresh and hot with a dab of Chinese spicy mustard. Everything was just delicious. Atmosphere was nice and quiet. Golf was on the small TV behind the sushi counter. We had one of the many sake selections, the Hakutsuru Junmai Ginjo which is always great and a sake we’ve had many times before. It is very smooth and fragrant with fruity notes when drank cold. For desert I got a melon cream soda float and my friend got mochi mango ice cream! What a meal! Their menu is very diverse and has options for many dietary restrictions as well. Now I need to go slip into a food coma…

If you are a foodie, this is the place for you! We got rejected twice from not making a reservation and I will say, it was alarming at first… but after finding out why, I appreciate the exclusivity. They only have 6 tables in there and a 3 person team. Their service, menu, and food is beyond amazing. This establishment reminds me of the restaurants you see on those Netflix shows, highlighting the love and dedication put into the food. We will be returning for many years and feel blessed to finally get to dine at this hidden gem!

So delicious! I would suggest a reservation or to go. This place is tiny and busy. We got lucky and seated as walk-ins but while eating, we saw a few parties turned away. Not the place if you're in a rush either. Their staff is tiny but mighty. I was worried if I ordered enough food, but two of us were Stuffed! And eating just to eat by the end of it. Their chefs choice sashimi platter is a wonderful variety and all fresh! The spicy roll was good. Not too spicy The tonkatu ramen was yummy and a large serving size. Seaweed salad was yummy too. Love this place so much. This was one of my final meals before moving from Tucson. Beef udon, Tempora udon and curry were all delicious Made a reservation but they didn't seem as packed. Slowservice in the best freshest way

The food, mind blowing. Incredibly authentic (in my whitexican brain) very fresh. There was only one staff member working the floor, so the service wasn't perfect, but we appreciate the effort. The atmosphere was nice, with images of the menu sprinkled across. Though I'd rather if they had anything but yellow lightbulbs. Overall, will recommend, and will be returning. OH! it is a expensive though.

Some of the freshest sushi in Tucson. There are also plenty of vegetarian options on the menu. You can tell even from a take out order how much love & thoughtful little details go into each dish.

Chef Noboru at Yamato really adds to how special this place is. The sushi is tremendous and the people are great. The fish is super fresh and delicious! His presentation is one of the most beautiful. The only down side, I’ve had at the place so far, has been a server who doesn’t seem to want to be there. Her attitude was bad: she was rude, dismissive, and seemed to have been overwhelmed by the few tables during dine in that post Covid-19. She seemed stressed and just not welcoming. On the flip side, Chef Noboru never fails to be friendly, fun, and being always a pleasure to be around. He is always and definitely worth the time and dine-in experience.
