Review Obon Sushi Bar Ramen - Tucson

Brooke Halle
Started with a Black tea old fashion which had a nice sweetness to it. Miso soup for $6.50, sub-average in flavor + no tofu… robbery. The bird bao was fantastic. The sauce + the crunch + the pickles makes every bite enjoyable. 100% recommend. The spam bao was alright, the kimchi overwhelmed the dish overall. It could have been better with teriyaki sauce. Finished with a california roll (sub avocado for more cucumber due to an allergy), which i’d give a 6/10. It was hard for me to get down, honestly. The rice was dry & the meat lacked in flavor. My service was great 8:30pm Friday night. Danielle was my waitress & she was both timely and attentive.

Delicious! Everyone was friendly and attentive. The Obon Ramen is incredible! The pork belly in the ramen was amazing. I highly recommend the Obon Edamame. The Bao Buns were so tasty. It was a very enjoyable meal.

The Bao buns are amazing! As well as the Yellowtail yuzu. The cocktails were inventive and perfectly balanced. The milk tea old fashioned was something I will be back for, have never had anything like it! Service was attentive and helpful. Highly recommend!

We ordered the Street noodles and sushi. I was very disappointed with the amount of sushi I received there was only 5 pieces even though other people that were ordering received 8. (As well as pictures in reviews that I had saw). Despite that it was delicious. The street noodles are good as well. The service was not great and they were inattentive, even though there was hardly anyone there. There is no parking directly in front of the building so you’ll have to walk. And it is a little hard to see while driving since it’s tucked in.

Poor man review: Overpriced fine dining. Nice location near Tucson downtown. Cucumber salad was unexpected. It was nothing like what I had before but I enjoyed the light yet flavorful taste. Pork bun/bao was nothing like any Chinese bao. Instead it was like a Chinese taco. Very high build quality, the bun was very soft and the content looked fresh and tasted not bad. I also enjoyed random Kanji on the cabinets for decor. Overall 4/5 stars for the taste and the environment. Kinda expensive tho.

I've been there twice. Both times the meals have been excellent. A good template for success is when 4 people go, order different meals, and each one feel that the meal they ordered is the best!

I've been a patron at OBON since it opened and have always had a fantastic experience. The food is delicious, my favorite dish is the street noodles but I would recommend the sushi as well. OBON has a warm and modern ambiance with a large indoor seating area, a beautiful outdoor patio and a large sushi bar. Definitely worth visiting.

The food, atmosphere, and service was great! In town for a few hours and this hit the spot. We happened to visit during happy hour, but unlike other restaurants, they didn’t hold back on the amount of fish in the rolls and the service was prompt. A great experience!

This was our second time here. Stopped for an amazing meal a few years ago, and wanted to go back for more. Food was phenomenal. Great place. Only downfall was that our server kept vanishing. We would have spent a lot more money by ordering more drinks but no one ever came back after dropping our food off. Had to ask someone else if they could bring the check. Would go back because I'm sure that was just a 1 off experience?

Wow, wow, wow! Amazing sushi! The chefs are wonderful, skilled showmen who produce art that melts in your mouth. The basics are prepared expertly, and the most creative melding of flavors in their signature rolls, plates, and sashimi will bring you back over and over.

The sushi join is asian fusion concept. Love the rolls. Price is bit on higher end but happy tummy is life. 😍😍😍 Tucson hidden gem must visit

I’ve been ordering dine in and take out from Obon since they first opened up here in Tucson, AZ. My family adores your food and we can’t wait to see you again soon! Thank you for all the years of impressive Japanese cuisine, we appreciate you so very much.

I’d like to start this off by this was almost a 1 star review. I was visiting friends that moved back to town. We walked down 4th Ave and then Walked into downtown area to grab sushi. It’s a Wednesday around 430p, and yes during Covid. We entered and spoke with the host we wanted to sit outside in the patio. There was maybe one group there and every other table available. He told us they were full due to reservations outside and we could sit inside. We were baffled and semi discussed this in front of him, thinking he would just seat us, which was not the case, and decided not to stay as my friend was embarrassed. As I leave reviews I like to give restaurants a chance to fix their errors. I called and spoke to the manager, Audra, and explained the situation. She said she could easily seat us, and would speak with the host. I told her we would discuss as a group and if we made it then great. We did end up returning as there are no other sushi places and glad we did. Drink wise we got the Chiltepen cobbler, OBON margarita. Pictured below. The drinks were great! Also ordered a black tea old fashioned not pictured. Because of the ordeal the manager suggested some appetizers. OBON edamame was delicious, and the sauce it’s in new to me and different. Definitely recommend the Yuzu Yellowtail, super fresh fish and a great sauce. Then we got buns , spam and pork belly, I’m not the biggest spam fan but the sauce and Kimchi was delicious. Pork belly was my favorite nice chunk good sauce, and bun itself was a good consistency. Sushi rolls we ordered were Hafu, Shiro Maki, and Monster. Hafu was best out of the 3 rolls, but both Hafu and Shiro have basically a salsa drizzle on it that makes it a unique flavor profile. All in all I look forward to returning here and glad I spoke up and the restaurant was given the opportunity to make it right.
