Review Coyote Pause Cafe - Tucson

What a great find! We popped in for lunch and had delicious tacos! The fish tacos were tasty- and the chicken tacos were the bomb!….all the ingredients were fresh and the wait staff were all friendly and efficient!

What a quaint little spot! Came in from Phoenix to hike in Tucson Mountain Park & Coyote Pause popped up as a nearby restaurant place to try. It was a drive west through more of the park (passed Old Tucson) & almost thought I was being misled by the map but low & behold Coyote Pause was right there. We came in the back way, thinking again the map took me to the wrong place, but turn the corner & it was the front of the restaurant. Very colorful! And a heck of a lot bigger than it looks. The young gal took us all the way in the back where it was bright & sunny (more so than the front). It was a large space yet not overcrowded, very open. The service was super friendly, fast, everything was delicious: hot chocolate (I didn't taste it but my hiking buddy said it was wonderful), prickly pear lemonade (mine, definitely a drink to order again), half-order of biscuits & gravy (she said you could tell it was all homemade) , mesquite pancake w/ agave syrup (great flavor and definitely filling). The park had so many trails to choose from I will definitely return and Coyote Pause will be on the agenda. You have to visit & enjoy the ambience with the wonderful food.

What a wonderful restaurant. Simple menu and very friendly staff. The tacos were probably the best I have ever had. Enjoy!

Delicious food, tried the fish tacos and the coyote burger: everything was awesome! Fish tacos had awesome flavor combinations. Burger was huge and very filling. We waited a bit, about 40 minutes, but also had a large party so that may be why. They did have kids cups for beverages, but no kid menu options.

The service for a bicyclist in need of food and water was fantastic. Jalapeño bacon was really tasty Mesquite pancake was worth going back for Sausage gravy was weird. Not much seasoning or sausage. Also, tasted a bit like they used premix biscuit flour, rather than flour in the gravy. Outside seating seemed out of season. I'd encourage they use their plates, not plastic containers, for people who are going to eat just steps outside the back.

Love the Jalapeño margaritas! Great food and service

It's a very busy cafe so be prepared to wait a tick for brunch- wait times seemed to average 15 to 30 minutes give or take. It probably didnt help a large group arrived right before we did. The staff is very friendly, portions make you feel comfortably full and the food was delicious. I had chilaquiles, southwest rice and ordered a side of bacon which was cooked to perfection. My other had the breakfast burrito (which I also tried because I love food) which was tasty as well! To drink I had a prickly pear lemonade which was flavorful and good as well. Make sure to grab a duo of fresh baked chocolate chip cookies on the exit, too. Great local fare and I will be back next time we're in Tucson!

We really enjoyed the food...the Tamale Pie and the Mesquite Pancakes were great. The servers were very friendly, but the biggest drawback was how extremely slow everything was from the wait to give our order to the fact that we had to go up front to get our own checks after waiting 30 minutes. Just like everyone else, I think they are short staffed. I would still recommend trying this cute place!

Very cute little Cafe in a beautiful setting. The food and service are very good and it is situated in a quaint motel with a gorgeous Sonoran garden.

The place definitely seemed understaffed when I arrived. My server more than made up for it with her attitude and attentiveness. The 3 people working at the time were all incredibly nice and helpful. 5 stars for service. The food, however, was average at best. Frozen burger, frozen fries. Very little to set their signature lunch item apart. The breakfast other patrons were getting looked good. I would go back to give that a try.

Very kind and courteous staff, food is great too. Since we are allergic to pork, they cleaned off their griddle before cooking our food without being asked to. Tried their coyote burger, prickly pear coleslaw, and their lemon cake dessert. All very good and if highly recommend trying their food. Breakfast all day too.

The Coyote Pause Cafe has delicious food, excellent customer service, and a really cool southwestern atmosphere. I tried the Huevos Rancheros made with house-made tamale pie and it was amazing! As you check out, let the cashier know if you plan to visit the Buffalo Trading Post directly behind the restaurant and they'll give you a discount card towards your purchase at the trading post. I highly recommend the Coyote Pause Cafe anytime you're in the Tucson area!

Went here recently for breakfast. Omelet was delightful! Ingredients except avacado (served on top) were mixed into eggs rather than folded in just in case that matters to some. Service was friendly and fast. Quaint southwest style atmosphere with quite a lot of local art on display.

The coyote burger is by far the best burger I've had in the southwest. Can't put it down to even drink your beer. Took pictures of the aftermath. I'd come back to Tucson just for this burger

The vegan tamales. And cowboy hash. Out of this world. Their non vegan items too! We have hit this amazing place twice in the past seven months. Two separate road trips. This place is a must stop every time we're out Tucson way!

this is a wonderful quirky little restaurant with a great atmosphere and delicious food. I return several times and take out-of-town visitors. Their hours are like 7 AM to 2 PM.

This place is great, delicious huevos rancheros And the mesquite pancake was super unique and surprisingly tasty. All around good vibes, except that some of the other customers were very annoying. I feel bad for the waitstaff.

Cute mom and pop restaurant. Love the southwest feel. The art work is nice as well. Lots of variety on the menu. I had the Avocado tacos!! So good. The biscuits were to die for!

I had the grilled veggie sandwich with prickly pear slaw. Was a smaller portion than I expected but was tasty. Service for take out was a 40 min wait which was too long. There’s a courtyard behind where you can eat outside.

I had the coyote burger with prickly pear cactus bbq. It was very good. The bun was toasted and crunchy. Being a sugar addict I surprised the waitress sprinkling sugar on them. They were outstanding. Well worth the stop.

Where has this restaurant been all my life?!! I have always lived in the Sabino Canyon area and I am chagrined to say that I wasn't even AWARE of the Coyote Pause Cafe. And that is sad because it is the PERFECT place to take guests and also a great place to just kick back and take it easy. Thankfully, we have just moved to the Tucson Mountain Park area so we are only 8 min. away now! It is located in the heart of Gates Pass and has an absolutely charming decor. But more importantly?? The menu and food are AMAZING!! Like out of this world! The Huevos Rancheros with the Indian Fry Bread and tamale cakes are so good plus they have fresh fruit. The staff is exceptional and this restaurant is absolutely not to be missed!

Loved it. Excellent fish tacos. The fried rice was soooo good. How often do you get to say that? The chili was worth another trip!

This restaurant may be in the middle of nowhere but was well worth the trip. I had the biscuits and gravy and my cousin had the Huevos Rancheros. Both meals were outstanding. The customer service was above and beyond. And the atmosphere was very small town diner style, which was nice. Definitely going back in the near future to try their Chilaquiles.

This was a treasure to happen upon. I had corn beef hash and a mesquite pancake. It was 2:15 on a Sat and they still cooked for me! Bought some prickly pear bbq sauce and made some chicken last night. So good I will be back!’n ❤️❤️

This is one of our favorite places in Tucson. The food and service is always excellent and you are treated like family. Also they are 5 minutes from my daughter's house and the twin girls like the place too, they are always given special service. Old Tucson Studios are about 10 minutes from there also.

The 12 oz ribeye was delicious!!! And the waitress/waiter staff were always smiling and checked on our progress many times. Highly recommend eating here!

The wait for food was long....however worth waiting for. I think the participants from the Tucson Studio 4 Mile Trail Run all had the same idea.

The best chicken fried steak and biscuits I've ever had! The atmosphere felt local and friendly!

Once we got our food, it was good. The service was friendly but rather slow. Also, apparently our long wait for our food was due to the kitchen needing to make more biscuits. I think if they had told us that prior to delivering our food after a very long wait, our experience would have been better. It wasn't busy (8 tables of 2 and 4 tops) and they had 4 servers working. I believe one of them could have let us know.
