This place was fantastic. Service was great. We ordered the "feed me". The chef chose a meal off the menu, and it was an amazing fish dinner. It was one the best meals we have had in a long time. Definitely worth the price.
Fabulous meal and service. We had the shrimp appetizer as another reviewer suggested and then the octopus. It was spectacular! We were hesitant to try it as it can be tough-- but this was so tender and seasoned perfectly!
High Quality. What a breath of fresh air. First off, they don't use canola oil, that stuff is just cheap garbage and makes me, and many other people, ill. They cook with olive oil and fry with peanut oil (sorry if you are one of the .05% with Arachis hypogaea hypersensitivity). Both are top of the notch oils for their purposes. The name of this emporium of excellence? It's Greek to Me.
They took over another Greek restaurant from a family which was Greek but not very good at food prep. apparently. These men are really good at everything. The rooms are pleasant and "Greek" in theme. The waitstaff is friendly and knowledgeable. The menu is fairly large and varied.
We started with their calamari which was delicious. Crisp and not dripping in fat. I had the Fresh Sea Bass which was indeed very fresh and served on Thai rice, Terry had the vegetable moussaka which is in a marinara sauce with Bechamel. He gave it an 8 out of 10.
There are some shortcomings, but they are a new restaurant. The menu listed on several food sites lists more things than they have. That was disappointing. Also, arrive early. We usually dine at 8 PM or so. They were out of the lamb shanks, which I actually went for. They were out of the meat moussaka which I had considered. I barely got the last order of Sea Bass. We wanted a little dessert and they were out of the baklava we wanted. They are next to SaddleBrooke. All those retired cowpokes saddle on up at about 5 PM so they can get to bed at 8. So I guess you have to arrive early or it may be slim pickins'.
As a note, I ordered a coke. They brought it to me in a glass bottle! Can't remember the last time time that happened (if you don't appreciate that beverages taste better out of glass as opposed to plastic or a bar gun, this means nothing to you.) The profit mark up on those fizzed drinks from a gun is remarkable, probably 20¢ cost on $2 charge. By moving to quality, they cost themselves money. It's such a small thing and yet it shows that quality is the driving force of this restaurant, not JUST profit. Serving fine food with good service produces a good bottom line. Something most Tucson restaurant have not discovered. They cut costs and thus quality.
Unfortunately they don't have a webpage, yet. Hopefully soon.
Go! Kalh Oreksh! as the Greeks would say.
It's Greek To Me is a diamond in the rough. You won't be disappointed with any of your choices on their menu. Fresh fish, authentic Greek dishes and desserts. I've been going to this place for years. Before and after the new ownership, there has been an exquisite attention to detail in almost every aspect of your dining experience. They've got the dream team running that place and I'm sure they will be around a very long time. Jimmy, David, and Kaitlyn are awesome people and should stop to take a shot of ouzo for George every once in a while!
Jimmy- the Ono fish over the Greek salad was absolutely mouth watering - a refreshing chilled summer white wine put me in Heaven. Returning soon !
Highly recommended! Great food & service! Loved the yogurt honey cake!!
Ompa!. Forget going to Tucson for Greek Food! I have lived in Greece as an expat for years...
George does them honor with his hospitality, his food, and his stories of home.
I was please with every mouthful and thought of the many Greek friends I left.
What a charming and wonderful spot. The lamb shank was so tender the meat fell off the bone and the BBQ squid was as tender as chicken.
The wine selection is fantastic!
Delicious. Soups, falafel, and gyros were amazing.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND. I love this place, always is welcoming to come in and see the owner with a smile on his face and impeccable staff whom are on top of everything. The food is amazing, as I love his homemade zucchini sauce. My favorite dish/es are the gyros. All time favorite and get it every time, though I have been looking at other of his dishes as well. For Oro Valley/Catalina area, there is no other Greek restaurant that compares in food, reliability, service, and overall experience. I go time and time again and am always wowed as well as pleased.
This place is a gem. The whole package...obviously, the food is AMAZING, but the owner, George, and his staff are so vibrant and fun and full of great suggestions. The octopus is succulent, the lamb shank is among the best we've ever had, and I usually just ask George what I'm eating for the evening! This last Saturday, it was fishermans stew...homemade sauce with Mexican sea bass, salmon, calamari, clams, giant shrimp...wow... The yogurt lemon cake was great too! Great Greek wine selections too.
Delicious food in a nicely decorated atmosphere. Great vegetarian dishes. The felafel was light and amazing. I also enjoyed the lamb Arniopita. Popular place--make a reservation, although we didn't and it worked fine for two people. Yummiest!
Third time here, this time take out. had a craving that had to be dealt with. Greek salad with all the right stuff - romaine, tomatoes, Kalamata olives, cucumber, onion, feta, pepperoncini. I think the dressing could be bumped up with a few more herbs but still, satisfying and delicious. And the lovely falafel! Everyone makes falafel differently - these are big, light, and so delicious. Great little place in Catalina. Don’t hesitate.
Reservations are a must.
Small, quaint, family establishment.
Excellent service, excellent food.
The perfect place to taste Greece in Tucson.
Needing to have a light lunch we decided to try this spot due to the proximity to the Golden Goose Thrift store. It was fantastic. The Meze Platter was so fresh and obviously homemade that we were exceptionally impressed. Will definitely be going for a full experience in the near future.
Hidden gem in Catalina. Food is great, service is great, overall a wonderful experience. Support local businesses like this!
When entering the restaurant smells so good with the food being made. The server was very pleasant and accommodating. Food was original ,homemade . Delicious and have to day its a favorite of mine in Tucson! Not fancy just great food .
Do not miss the ceiling decor! Best greek food I've had since another independent & authentic restaurant in Nevada. Love the dolmas and tzatziki, the vegetarian moussaka, the lamb & beef gyro, the rice pudding... going to try some other stuff next week. My mother isn't very adventurous, but she was thrilled with the new flavors but says do be aware of the pepperoncini. Do also be aware the portions are larger than some greek restaurants. (But they have nice to-go containers, and we enjoyed everything just as much the next day.) Service was a bit slow... well, with the current shortage of labor, that's not surprising. And everything made as fresh as possible. And prices very reasonable. Please visit them soon and keep them in business!
Amazing! Went for dinner with our two young children, and our server was so kind and helpful. Food was some of the BEST Greek food we have ever had!! Very affordable too. Will definitely be back.
Excellent food both dine in and take out. Amazing service and great prices. My favorite place for Greek food!
We visited It’s Greek to Me again and we have a really good meal. The fish special, sea bass on black rice and vegetables was great, and we really enjoyed the Greek salad as well. Highly recommended.
