There are not enough words to describe this awesome restaurant. Starting with the moment you drive up you have the beautiful location on the creek, the welcoming front porch, and then step inside to the warmth of "coming home". The owners and staff are all so gracious. And the food! The best country ham ever. Served farm table style, on a platter with bowls of grits and red eye gravy, stewed apples, green beans, biscuits and their world famous marinated slaw, and macaroni salad. It all makes a great dining experience.
4 of us ate there a couple of weeks ago. I had trout, the others had fried chicken and country ham. All of it terrific, including the salad and sides, plus we got blackberry cobbler. Our waitress, Linda, provided excellent, friendly service. Always a great experience and relaxing atmosphere
Love this restaurant. Reminds me of my Mama. She loved it and my hubby and I drive from Spartanburg just to dine here. Never disappointed in food or service. Have eaten about everything on their menu and never had a bad meal.

My mother and father used to come here many years ago when I was just a little thing. I’ve always loved this place. It’s small and charming on the edge of a mountain river. There is a covered bridge to get to it. Rocking chairs on a front porch overlooking the river. Food was excellent. We got flounder and shrimp. Got to make more time to come visit more often. Only disadvantage is check or cash only no credit or debit cards. They do need to begin to take cards because most people now do not carry cash.
Absolutely wonderful food. Ronnie had told me about this place but I had just recently had the opportunity to go. Will definitely return! He loved the trout, I enjoyed the Mahi. But the slaw....yummmmm!
Love going to Caro-Mi. The food and service is excellent. Best chicken livers!! A nice relaxed atmosphere. Highly recommend!
Great food and great staff! Can't beat the country ham anywhere. Macaroni salad and marinated slaw are to die for! Beautiful location with front porch on the river. You won't be disappointed!
We have been going there for years. My favorite dish is their slaw. Although you get bowls of macaroni, green beans, cooked apples, and biscuits My favorite entree is the large fantail shrimp. Theres fried chicken, chicken livèrs, country ham, trout. My favorite place.
This place is great. From the covered brige to the rocking chairs on the front porch. Watching the water go by in the creek. The food is great. I have never had a bad meal here. All around best dinning experience.
In all the visits, over the past 20 years, no complaints! Love walking across the bridge, listening to the river, relaxing before you even reach the porch. Rocking chairs calling my name, so if there's a wait, I just enjoy. Food is always exceptional, and staff is as well.
We enjoy Caro-Mi Restaurant in Tryon NC. To get to this jewel tucked away in nature, you cross a covered bridge. And they have a front porch with rocking chairs to enjoy the beautiful sounds of pacolet river as you wait for your table. The food is delicious, servers are delightful, if weather permits the windows will be open so to bring the sounds of the river cascading over the rocks inside. And after dinner, relax on the porch with a cup of coffee or bring your own wine 🍷. It's just a wonderful dining experience.
We have eaten at Caro-Mi for years - our favorite restaurant. The Caro-Mi slaw is the best! Ham, Chicken, and Chicken livers are all great! You won’t be disappointed!!!
The food was absolutely delicious, we took our son and his family from Raleigh to eat here. They enjoyed it immensely especially the peach cobbler and brownie with ice cream and chocolate drizzled on top. The rating Is a FIVE!!!!
5 * I give a 10* on the employees and also on the food if anyone has not been I highly recommend it great prices u get a ton of food.
Love the place and food. Tonight tho as last time we get seated and put in order and then a table beside us comes in 5 minutes later and give order to waitress. Well, the service was very slow tonight, took about 40 mins to get food, but the table beside us got there food before we did and we had placed order 5 to 10 mins before them.
This is not first time this has happened. Please tell your staff to pay attention to who gets food before others that come in behind us, really enjoy coming there. thanks
Caro Mi is my favorite place to visit!
The atmosphere is cozy, quiet, calming and beautiful! I love the sounds of the stream, crickets chirping, and the front porch rocking chairs. The covered bridge is so perfect to take wonderful pictures of the trees, stream, and the restaurant. Food is great, and service spectacular! Cozy little place tucked away in the mountains. Beautiful drive along the way.
I highly recommend Caro Mi!!
I grew up in South Carolina and this place is a legend and with good reason. Getting there is a beautiful drive off of I-26 through the foothills and piedmont of NC. The setting is amazing! The food is also amazing! The covered bridge and the front porch with the rocking chairs overlooking the river is so beautiful and relaxing. The name is an homage to the original owners who lived in the Carolinas and Miami. Highly recommended!
Make reservations early, expect to lose cell phone service here, they do have wifi. Nice view of the river, rocking chairs on the porch, small covered bridge that you can drive across. Table was ready at time of reservation which was 6:30. Placed order shortly after we sat down, we didn't get our food until 7:40. Dinner, dessert and coffee had us leaving at 8:41. Not used to spending this much time dining but we had a good time just talking. It's not a huge place so there's not a lot of noisy chatter which makes having a conversation very easy. We were told that there were a lot of orders ahead of us but we saw a few tables where people were seated, dined and left while we waited so we didn't really believe that. Trout, flounder and fried shrimp were excellent. Ribeye ordered medium was well done and too tough to eat. Macaroni salad, fried apples, biscuits with apple butter and green beans were good, slaw had a huge amount of vinegar and salt in it which we didn't care for. Key lime pie and Tarhill pie were both excellent.
Resteraunt was clean and the waitstaff was great. Slaw and macaroni salad come out first with family style service. I had the flounder and it wad perfect. Lightly breaded and moist inside. Nights are crowded, so make a reservation.
The 1st coming to this little gem. Tucked in by a big stream and mountains. Small menu but with big plates to choose from. Really cool how they put fried apples, cole slaw, macaroni cold salad, green beans and scratch biscuits with apple jam on table for whole party to enjoy. Party of 8, went early around 5pm, no problem getting a table with outstanding service. Will put this on my return list. Drove from Greer to try. Well worth the drive. Glad to see some restaurants still care about the food, service and the people that support them.
I guess it depends upon the entree you order. What my wife and I both had was good. I had the cured ham which was saltier than my taste but was still good. The sides were all ok, except the baked apples/applesauce which was very good and made from local apples.
The exterior and surroundings are beautiful and worth the visit alone. The inside ambiance was nice. Old country home atmosphere.
Service was very good and attentive.
Caro Mi's Dining Room once again surpassed our expectations. Our Server, Katie, remembered us from the last time we were there and that was 2mos ago.
When she fileted my Mountain Trout, she took the head off first, without asking (she asked every other Patron in the room whether they wanted the head on or off.) Katie also added extra slivered almonds and butter with my Trout and brought us each a bowl of the Macaroni Salad so that I "would stand a chance of getting some." She brought Anthony an additional Cola, without asking, because he drinks very quickly, and she asked us specific questions about things we had discussed last time we were there.
The food was delicious the entire wait-staff were quick, without being pushy, courteous, personable, without being nosy, and professionally efficient. The Owner was there greeting everyone as they entered, recognizing familiar faces, and making sure everyone was seated and taken care of quickly.,
This is what I would call a time-capsule restaurant and we really enjoyed our experience. The entire visit was like I imagine life in the 1950s might have been ... right down to no credit cards (cash or check only). The food is probably like it was prepared back then too. Old-fashioned and very tasty. Everyone in our group enjoyed their selections. The staff were delightful and attentive. Everything was handled like clockwork. The setting is beautiful and I loved the creek and covered bridge. Don't go here if you are looking for modern-day recipes and options. That's not what Caro-Mi is about. Rather, go here to experience life the way it once was. With the right mindset you will have a great time. With the wrong mindset, you will be unhappy. Bottom line -- I would not go here frequently but I would certainly return on a day when I want something distinctive and different.
Good food, service and atmosphere! The Mahi Mahi is the best and the coleslaw has a secret receipe that I wish I knew :) This darling cabin in the woods is a wonderful hidden gem! Will definitely return and recommend :)
Fantastic location - worth the drive to this relatively remote restaurant. The fare centers on typical Southern comfort food, but isn't greasy or fatty. The portions are ample and the staff is very friendly. The trout is amazing, as is the fried chicken. Love the slaw. It's simple and delightfully vinegar-y.
The atmosphere is very cozy - the feel of a converted log cabin.
Even with reservations it took a while. We were seated pretty much on time but everything slowed down after that. It was ten minutes before our drink order was taken. Another ten minutes before we received the drinks. The same was true with taking the order etc. So plan plenty of time to talk and enjoy your friends. Even with the wait it is a great place. I suppose if it wasn't worth it they wouldn't be so busy!!!!
The chicken livers were great! My entree was trout- very dry and didn’t taste good at all! The service was great even tho they were running back and forth. Next time will get fried chicken dinner.
Beautiful place on the river. Tasty food and a lot if it. They don't take debit/credit cards though so take cash!
Good southern cooking in a lovely setting. Park in the lot, then walk across the old covered bridge over a surprisingly strong flowing river as you approach the extensive front porch of the restaurant. The interior is fairly simple, but the food delivers with a variety of unique and delicious options. Lots of seafood choices, but meat lovers don't despair, the aged ham dish was delicious. Each meal comes with a variety of sides, my favorite of which were the green beans, baked apples, and homemade biscuits with apple butter.
The food is the best I have ever tasted in a restaurant. And, the portions are HUGE!!!
Our server, Katy, was excellent!!! She was servicing three other tables besides us but we didn't lack for anything and she was sometimes ahead of us, anticipating what we would need.
I will definitely come back and ask for Katy to me our server.
Blessings!
