Good food out of a really cool diner- Drove all the way to Truckee from Napa and was pleasantly surprised when we decided to make a pit stop here. The food was yummy and rich, position sizes were big, prices were fair and ambiance was neat. Felt like we went back in time to the 50’s! The restaurant was pretty empty and so service was fast and also constantly checking up on us. What more could ask for?

All sandwiches and burgers can be put on gluten-free bread. The Ruben was excellent, the pulled pork was okay, the gluten-free bread was good. Our waiter was great and the atmosphere of the diner is fun. I would come here again!

Went for Sunday brunch and only waited 20 minutes. Their staff was very friendly and attentive. However, their food was subpar. The turkey in the Jax Melt was very dry and had no flavor. Their fries, while a generous portion, were unseasoned and soggy. Everything besides the food was good.

I ordered a dish that was called something along the lines of "comfort in a bowl," and my husband ordered a Reuben sandwich. Both of us enjoyed our food. My dish was basically a bunch of vegetables on top of mashed potatoes with shrimp and avacado. Delicious!

After spending a day in Truckee we came across this place that we had to check out the next day for brunch. Glad we did. It's unassuming from the outside but inside is quintessential American diner. From the stools to the service to the food, everything was brilliant. Got the southern fried steak and eggs and honestly, I couldn't complain about anything on it. It was perfect. Highly recommend as a stop if you're in town.

I love stopping by this spot whenever I’m in Truckee! The atmosphere of it being on the train tracks is pretty neat and their malt shakes are heavenly. The food in general is pretty good. Typical diner style food. If you’re in the area and have never been, I would recommend giving it a try.

1st time here. The food was good. The staff was friendly, but hardly came around. I would like to come back and try other food items.

JUN 2023: Recommended by a Reno friend and totally worth it! Right off Main Street, clean, lots of seating, helpful staff, no wait, nostalgic decor, and delicious food. Gotta try the homemade mac-n-cheese, huge onion rings and the “Butcher’s Burger” was like a Texas BBQ on top of a cheese burger!

Stopped here for a late evening snack. The place is super quaint and nostalgic. The staff was super friendly and the food was great. I recommend the chili cheese fries. The chili was great. The garlic truffle fries were a hit too. Finished it all off with a chocolate shake. Great end to a perfect day in my always home no matter where we live…California.

This place has very large portions, and the food is very reasonably priced.

We had a filling brunch in this diner during one of those snow blizzard days. This placed was packed with folks. We ordered eggs, burgers, coffee and desserts. Everything was delicious and were promptly brought. The service was great. Would love to make it a pit stop on our next visit.

This place was good. I'm sure it deserves a higher score. But my food order was wrong and the chips were lack luster. My friend enjoyed her meal at least.

Nice restaurant to get some good basic food. Burgers were great and I loved the chips.

I would give this place a no-star if I could. We were told we would be sat in 5-10 minutes, we waited 30, asked if we could at least sit down because there were 7 different tables open that could accommodate my family and there were also 20+ people in the entry way, getting cramped. Plus the hostess sat us at a filthy booth with out settings. What's sad is that it wasn't even a lunch rush or on the weekend. We decided to go to Dairy Queen, it was delicious, great service too!

Great place to go for some real American diner food. My husband and I ordered the French dip sandwich with sweet potato fries and the BLT with regular fries. All were good. Don't skip out on the shakes, but they will fill you up. Probably should have just shared one!

Jax is a unique diner that we would visit again. Great food and service. My husband had the BBQ Cheese sandwich with coleslaw featured on Diners, drive-ins and dives. Really good! I had the crab cake salad and enjoyed it. The milkshake is very good. Highly recommend it.

Real American diner. Great variety of dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Portions are typically American massive portions. Not really fine dining. All American diner experience makes it a 3,5.

Great experience. We had an enjoyable experience at jax! Service was fast and pleasant and the food was delicious. We had the thanksgiving sandwich, BBQ pulled pork and big dog chili dog along with a banana shake and Carmel shake. Restaurant was clean and had the local flare diner we were searching for whole traveling through truckee ca.

What's all the fuss about?. Really. ...cold food, all around our table. Service slow and pretty advasive. Don't go to Truckee often but when I do, it won't be here.

Delicio. I look forward to coming again. I look forward to eating again. I look forward to eating there crab cake.

We really loved the food! The thanksgiving dinner sandwich was delicious and the blue crab cake sandwich was yummy too! However, the portions are HUGE and we could have split one of the entrees (especially the thanksgiving sandwich) and still had leftovers. Since we are from out of town and had no where to keep the leftovers we wasted so much food. :( also, the service is pretty slow because the restaurant is very busy, but we were on vacation so we weren't in a hurry. All in all I would say that it was a good experience with delicious food!

Gustatory. Not your ordinary diner. 1948 building from Pennsylvania shipped to Truckee In early 1990s. Great period piece preservation. Specials menu had sautéed calamari, lobster pie, and truffles fries. Good experience all around. Helpful staff.

Wow. Have been in the Tahoe area for a e and had given up on any kind of good food. Saw this place while shopping in Truckee and decided to try it. I had the kobe beef meatloaf. It was fantastic. Wife had the breakfast addiction also great. Just sorry I only have two days left to try out the many great looking menu items. Will be back tomorrow.

2nd Time for us - There will be no 3rd visit. DO not eat here. You will be ripped off. First of all -- the owner needs to know this place gives DDD a bad name. Look at all the poor reviews -- and for the same issues. The owner either doesn't know or doesn't care and is riding the coattails of Guy Fieri. Well, I'm going to write to Guy. Some PA of his will get the email and he may never see it, but the people at DDD need to know that he's endorsing a restaurant that isn't even close to the hype he portrays on DDD. The owner should wake up. I don't typically take the time to write lengthy reviews, but this place was just so bad. This was the second time we visited this restaurant. The first time, I had the blue crab cakes. They were okay, but not stellar as one would expect after being featured on TV. Service was mediocre on that visit. We felt that things took too long to come out of the kitchen. Our second visit was this evening. My husband, mother-in-law and I stopped in for a late supper. We were the only customers aside from two other tables that had already been served. We all ordered burgers. Mine was the classic, MILs was the 1 lb stuffed with cheddar and bacon and hubby's was the blackened one. We all were asked how we wanted the meat cooked and we all stated "medium" with "some pink" in the middle. Despite being the only table with an outstanding order, service was slllllooooooooow -- about 45 miuntes to grill burgers? Really? And when our food finally arrived, MIL's and hubby's had the wrong side orders. They both came with slaw -- which was what I ordered. They didn't order slaw. They ordered parmesan chips and sweet potato fries. I nearly finished my entire meal before their corrected orders arrived. But -- when MIL went to eat her burger, it was not just rare, but raw. Medium? Nope. It was cold, mushy and raw. She pointed this out to the server. The server wanted to take it back to the kitchen, but it took so long for her to get the sweet potato fries, MIL just wanted to eat them and forget the burger. The server seemed annoyed that MIL didn't want her to take her plate back yet again. MIL told her we didn't have any more time to waste and that she would just eat the fries. My burger was actually medium-well, not medium. Hubby's was well-done and not really correctly blackened. It wasn't so bad that we had to complain, but someone in the kitchen doesn't know what they are doing. Who knows what the cook was doing for 45 minutes while we waited for him/her to grill our burgers???? Clearly MIL's burger wasn't on the grill for that much time! In the end, the server cut the cost of MIL's meal in half. Heh. Seriously. She ate not a single bite of the burger -- not even the bun. Not even the pickle garnish! She ate a side order of sweet potato fries and that was ... it. We were charged for half of the burger meal. We should have been charged just for the fries. The fries were good, but not worth $8.00. UNBELIEVABLE. We didn't argue. We didn't dispute it because, frankly, we shouldn't have HAD to dispute it. This was a quality issue, a training issue and a health and safety issue. There is no earthly reason why they should think that $8.00 was a fair proce to pay for their colossal screw up. Don't eat here. It's nothing like what Guy Fieri claims it to be.

Dry, overlooked, tasteless - bad service. I really really wanted to like this place. I am a DDD fan, and I love diners. The made from scratch aspect made me even want to like it more. Everything was overlooked, dry, and not very flavorful. The only exception? Onion rings which are oddly striped with brown to signify the beer? Obviously a pre made frozen side.

$15 for the tiniest fried chicken plate I have ever seen. The drum stick was literally the size of a wing drumette. No exageration at all. The meat was very dry and tasteless. My husband was nicer than I, b/c I would have sent it back in a heart beat.

I ordered the crab cake sandwich. I received the dill crumbed fish sandwich and took a bite to verify it was indeed the wrong sandwich. Overlooked, dry, tasteless fish. I was happy I had not ordered this as it was my second choice. The waitress corrected the order asking me if I just wanted it boxed since my husband had eaten his paltry poultry ( I had to do it :) she brought the sandwich. The bun is excellent, but the crab cake was mushy and tasted very strange. I could not taste the crab at all. The texture was off putting though.

Lastly I ordered chicken fingers and subbed broccoli for fries for $2?????? The other child entree was grilled chicken and broccoli, so why charge me $2 for 2 small stalks??? Rediculous!!! The chicken? You guessed it. Dry, tasteless, and the broccoli was all stems. Barely any flouret. Yuck! My kids, who are great eaters would not touch any of it.

The worst $50 I think I have ever spent. The waitstaff was slow and unfriendly. We were the only table and ey took forever to take our order. we waited at least 30 min for our food, and it was all awful.

I came mid afternoon with a great past experience at this establishment. There were three parties ahead of us but there were also 6+ available tables. The host (Drew Carey look-a-like) was short and inpersonable. He would only seat a party evey 3-5 mins while multiple tables were open and his potential customers were resorting waiting outside in the cold. Even if he was understaffed the customers could have been seated.

The coffee is weak but the food was good. My husband and I had breakfast. I think the chicken fried steak was great had an original coating reminding me of onion rings. My husband enjoyed the corned beef hash. The service was good but understaffed

The Worst!!!. The place is a dump and the service matches up well as does the food. Went there based off DDD and the place did not even come close to living up to all the hype. The Service was slower then all get out and the food all came out at different times. And then the food was not that great, the BBQ tasted like it came out of a bag or can. Save your time and money and go on down the road.

Horrible service. It took nearly a half hour to get our food after we ordered it, our drinks never got refilled and there was hardly anyone in there. The food was pretty good albeit over priced for what it was. Not worthy of diners drive ins and dives.

Went out of our way to eat here based on Diners, Drive-INS and Dives. Food was good, moderate portion but the service was awful. When we got there only one other customer was there. It took so long to get our food and follow up service that we were afraid to order dessert.

2 Strikes in One Day. We went there twice in the same day. The service was slow on both occasions. We got the wrong bill the second time (dinner) and took over a 1/2 of an hour for them to correct the problem. 45 minute lag between getting some of our dishes. We did enjoy our breakfast, just super slow service. We noticed locals were served before everyone else.

What a great find for dinner! The crab cake sliders were amazing and all the food was good. Lava cake rich and delicious, be sure to get a scoop of ice cream.

Friendly. Just happened in . My kids spotted it .I felt ugh it's a coffee shop.Being out voted we went in. I was taken with the menu .Then I had the oppurtunity to speak to Phil, the chef. His enthusiasim about his menu was contacious. We started with sweet potatoe fries and then onward with dill crusted fish and chipolte burgers. I can't wait to go back for dinner (Kobe Meatloaf}. You should stop if you can.
Wendi Grasteit
