Delicious. If you understand Mexican food this is the place for you. If you need to be educated on items; I suggest their American menu. Portions are prices are great. Huge menu. Cozy on the verge of crowded. Tables touch each other but there are several more private booths. Staff is bilingual, everyone spoke excellent English as well as Spanish. The creamy green table sauce is intense and brings the heat. Lots of attention to details here, beautiful plates, delicious flavors, fast service, and low prices.
Food is great, ambiance is wonderful, servers are very nice, since combining with the store next door the menu has expanded to include Mexican fare. I haven't tried any of the new options since there inclusion, but I can't wait to! Thanks for making wonderful food at a reasonable price! The drive-thru for pickup is a great option also, just remember to call your order ahead. It is NOT fast food!
This place is hopping! We waited a few extra minutes, but TOTALLY worth it. Authentic and delicious Mexican food. The atmosphere was welcoming and cozy. The waitress was super nice and kept checking in on us. I'll definitely be returning next time I'm in Traverse City!
Sparky's Diner is awesome like a blast into the past. They treat you like family and the food is prepared just the way you want. They have all the classic selections of breakfast and lunch and you will not be disappointed. It's hidden away hard to find but once you find it you will come back. This was our first time here and it's like they have known us forever. Not too many places are like that. Update 3/25/23 they have new owners and the Mexican food is delicious. Reminds me of my time in Mexico. The tacos, burritos are definitely the best in town. It's more popular now for good reason. Just had another great meal yesterday(4-24-23). The chicken combo plate and a wet beef burrito. Delicious and great service from Harold as usual.
We were expecting to walk into Sparkys Diner. We weren't aware that it was taken over by a Mexican food restaurant. 🤷🏼♀️ They still had some of the food, but the menu was now half and half, and no fountain pop. Only jarritos or Mexican coke (not sure the difference it wasn't explained). We were the only ones in the entire place not speaking Spanish. It was a little off-putting, as it was unexpected. Great food, great prices, clean but very slow service, and no longer just Sparkys.

This diner is a quaint, charming little restaurant serving up great eats, with large portions of flavorful options. With reasonable prices, it was worth the trip.

This was our second visit. We came in before they closed and it was a little messy they were starting their closing process but we didn't care. The food was great! Tacos, tostada's and burritos, very good. I like that there is authentic Mexican food out here and I'm from downstate where everything tastes like Taco Bell.
This is a great little diner! It has all the go to breakfast and lunch classic diner comfort food. On top of that they have killer Mexican food, amazing tacos and tortas with few places do really well and Sparky's is spot on. Definitely a must try. Will come again especially for the Mexican entrees 😁. Staff are friendly and the service is fast.
Our first time eating here. Glad we decided to try it. Love the retro design! The workers were very friendly. The food and coffee were delicious! We'll definitely be back!
Randomly chose this place after a long weekend in DT TC and decided to go a little off the grid to avoid long waits for seating. All of us planned on getting just an American style breakfast but the majority of us were converted to ordering Mexican when we learned this was an authentic Mexican style restaurant (which does have your standard bacon and egg offerings as well). The food was plentiful, it tasted very good and the prices were low for the amount you got. The service was a bit slow, but there were 7 of us. Out of the 7, 5 got Mexican dishes, 2 got American and between us all there were no complaints, just full stomachs. This place is northing fancy, just a normal diner. Take a break from downtown and check it out.
We love authentic Mexican food ! Sparky's is the place to go. Upon our return to Michigan, we will be coming here in the future. People are friendly here and we enjoyed sitting at the large family tables! Food was delicious !!

I am aware that the bar is low, but I believe these are the best tacos in Traverse City. It used to be just a diner, but since TC Latino took over, there's some pretty good Mexican food coming out of here.
It's not pretty (It's a diner, after all) so maybe this is not a date place, unless the person you are dating is very chill. One time, I heard "Total Eclipse Of The Heart" come out of the kitchen 4 times in a row, and the first two times, it was sung in Spanish... the third and fourth time, it was the original English version. The fourth play through ended abruptly, as if someone in the kitchen suddenly realized that maybe, just maybe, the Total Eclipse fest wasn't good for business. But it was... everyone in the restaurant loved it, and each time the song was repeated, all the diners made eye contact and smiled. I almost gave the restaurant a 5th star just because of this great memory.
The service is terrific and attentive.
DO: Get any taco, you will be satisfied with the quality of the tortillas, the freshness of the fillings, and the tastiness of the meat. The barbacoa stands out to me as the best.
DON'T: Order the beef rib platter, they are delicious but you have to have jaws of steel to chew it, this meat is very, very tough.

The Mexican food was delicious! We prefer to wait for trips to Texas rather than eat at Mexican restaurants near where we live, this was well worth the indulgence. Everything was beyond flavorful and decadent. Our server, Alejandro, was helpful and patient, we appreciate you!
