Found my new breakfast place
Today's episode of #roadfill comes from the neighbourhood eatery Cyndia's in Totowa, New Jersey
I was in the market for the most important meal of the day, and Cyndia's looked to be the type of place that would do breakfast right, since they were open only for breakfast and lunch.
As I was about to enter, I noticed a sign in the window said they were hiring bussers. That can often be a good sign that business is booming, or then again, it could mean that there is a lot of turnover.
Stepping inside I was immediately greeted by a young man standing behind the till counter. He noticed my Rush t-shirt and complimented me on my fashion choice. Good start. I was offered my choice of where to sit in the decent sized and very clean restaurant. There were comfy looking booths and warm woods throughout
I grabbed one of the wooden stools engraved with 'Drink Coca Cola' on top that lined a long wooden counter. A wood top surface was likely a savvy design decision to ensure you don't overstay your welcome.
Classic and 80s rock played over the speakers to keep me company whilst I perused the menu.
A woman behind the counter also cheerfully greeted me, the kind of greeting that genuinely made you actually feel welcome. She was happy to pour me a hot and tasty cuppa. It was then that I noticed Cyndia's vision statement in bold letters up on the wall: "Where neighbors become friends and friends become family". Well I didn't live in the neighbourhood, but perhaps they thought I did, because I was definitely in the 'friends' group. Not sure if I'd want to escalate to the 'family' group where we'd hold petty grudges and do things to annoy each other like your typical 'family' member.
The menu had all the staples and a surprising number of poached egg dishes. I was never a supporter of the illegal hunting of eggs so I've never ordered one. My eye continued wandering.
I opted for the Pepper Jack breakfast, consisting of scrambled eggs, green peppers and onions with pepper jack cheese in a panini
As I enjoyed my brew whilst waiting for my meal I noticed there were patrons coming in to order OJ to go. I was wondering what the appeal was, and my server told me that there's was fresh squeezed. Hmm I thought. No sooner did I begin to contemplate getting one, did she return with a small glass of the juice for me to try 'on the house'. Giving out free OJ must have meant that my server was likely 'Cyndia' herself. No one arbitrarily dispenses fresh squeezed OJ for free. I had a swallow and it lived up to the hype. Enough to get me to order a full glass. Shrewd...
As I enjoyed my OJ, a young worker slinked in with one of the worst cases of bed head I have seen since my college days. Glancing at the clock on the wall, it read 26 minutes past the hour. My server's eyes immediately locked on his and daggers were released. Her ire with his late arrival was more than a little apparent. Without saying a word he slowly made his way to the back room. It wasn't immediately clear if he was truly awake yet or sleepwalking. I suspected the sign I had seen in the window may have been for him.
That was the last I saw of my server as she retreated to the kitchen to help with food prep for the growing breakfast crowd. Another woman, older and wee in stature, took over and refilled my cuppa whilst delivering my panini.
The meal was tasty and filling; a perfect size to start the day and not too heavy.
Bed Head Boy would eventually take over serving duties behind the counter in his somewhat zombie-like state. Since he likely spent little, if any, time in the bathroom readying himself to be in front of the public, I was concerned about his hands. They looked clean from a distance, but worried me enough to avoid asking for another refill of the delicious coffee. I had enough anyway, and along with the OJ I could have floated out the door.
Total with tax: $16.57. Bed Head Boy aside, Cyndia's was worthy of two forks up!
The food and staff are excellent. Great selection to choose. Place is spotless and I highly recommend Cyndia's.
Great food, great staff, great atmosphere!! Really great place!!

Excellent food, excellent service! Cyndia’s is one of the best restaurants in New Jersey! Can’t wait to go back!
Always delicious. Can't go wrong coming to Cyndia's. The best in the area. Love it! Coconut/pineapple pancakes are awesome!
Ordered the beef empanadas on the lunch special and they were kick ass. Please put them on the menu permanently!
Never disappoints. The menu is the perfect size not overwhelming. I have yet to try everything, you will have your favorites, and the specials are very appetizing. The staff are pleasant and professional. Keep up the good work.
Food is excellent. A bit crowded but doesn’t detract from the quality of the meal.
Ate brunch here for the first time and loved it! When I arrived it was super busy and I assumed I would have to wait a long time. Surprisingly my husband and I were seated almost immediately. Alyssa was our server and was excellent. My husband and I both ordered off the specials. I really loved the Alla Celina and my husband enjoyed the Flank Steak and Eggs. We shared a fluffy Belgian waffle as well. The food came out fast and prepared perfectly to our liking. We were impressed by how busy yet fast and efficient everything was. Would highly recommend and can’t wait to try more!
Probably the best place to eat in NJ.
The food here is incredibly tasty and just so happens to be really well priced.
Nowadays eating out is so expensive, Cyndias offers better service, better food and a better experience than any local diner for half the price.
Pictured below was a special consisting of fried chicken, eggs benidict and waffles. Most diners charge $18+ for anything like this, at Cyndias it was only $12!
Next time I want to go out to eat it’ll be here!
On our girls weekend to NJ, we had the most delicious authentic corned beef hash, fresh breakfast sandwich and the ever-dangerous but amazing Boston Cream Pancakes! The staff went out of their way to see we had an exceptional experience!
I love this place. It was my first time having breakfast here and I was pleasantly surprised by how nice the staff was. They made us feel very welcomed and the food and service was amazing. This will definitely be my go to breakfast spot from now on.
Every time we have breakfast here, we are welcomed with smiles and positive energy. The orange juice is always fresh and tastes amazing. The food has always been on point. Definitely try this place, you’ll love it!
Nice spot to grab breakfast. We ate outside. Looks a little tight inside. Service was great (older lady was a hoot). Parking out back also available.
Cyndia's has great breakfast options. The go-to is the chicken and waffles but there's other great items on the menu too. I'd suggest making reservations, this place can't get really busy on the weekends.
I’ve made a tradition with my bf to come here every Saturday morning because I love it so much! It’s so neighborly and their specials are ALWAYS AMAZING! There’s always something creative and delicious in their menu that you wouldn’t be able to find in another diner! I only wish that I could come here weekdays because I follow their Instagram and they always post their specials of the day and I can’t have them on the weekends but that doesn’t mean that their specials that weekend aren’t special 🥰 I always leave satisfied! 100% recommend!! 🤤🤤🤤
PS: I’ve never had a favorite restaurant but this place won me over! 💘
