It's been years since I had Goodson's. Wanted some fish and saw they added it to the menu, so I decided to give it a try. I ordered the lemon pepper catfish meal and it was sooo delicious! There was so much food! I got the meal and a dessert, coconut cream pie. Even the slice of pie was the largest slice of pie I've ever seen. The price for the meal and dessert was less than $20. The amount of food I got for less than $20 bucks was amazing. I will definitely be back for more. Would highly recommend if you want good food for not a lot of money. My server, Laura had excellent customer service and was very friendly.

Sweet baby Jesus I'm about to get fat. The chicken friend steak was as good as everyone said. Loved the squash and mashed potatoes too. My daughter had the grilled cheese and fries. The 2 scoops of ice cream she had looked like 2 mountains. Matt is an awesome waiter. We will be back. This place will make ya stop cooking. The price was so reasonable. We will make this our mommy daughter dinner spot. Whole experience was awesome start to finish. And I'm off to my food comma. Try it you won't be disappointed in any way.

Nice, friendly, home-style restaurant. Been around forever but I'm just now getting a chance to try it out. The family loved it. Great food at great prices. Definitely have to put this one in the rotation.

First timers brought my kids here. We had onion rings and ranch as an appetizer kids said 10/10. For our meals we had chicken tenders fries and mash. The combination platter which is fried fish and shrimp with fries and mash. I got the large chicken fried steak with mash and fried okra. Everything was great. Service was awesome from the hostess to our waitress. Will be back

First and foremost, ask for Anthony, had to be the most friendly, efficient, server I've ever had, we came in 1hr till closing. It was fast and delicious, the banana pudding is amazing. The chicken fried steak is some of the best you can get and the baked squash was also delicious. There a reason they have been in business over 70 years 🤯.

Love that they will not seat you till you entire party is there, keeps people from loitering waiting for family or friends while taking up a table. Good selection of food, friendly staff. Our waitress was Mia, and she was more than accommodating but stretched pretty thin across tables. I fault the service a bit for having too many tables per server, not the fault of Mia. Chicken Fried steak was huge, and really good. The batter used is fluffy and crunchy kinda like a good fish batter. Coleslaw is thin small cuts of cabbage in a mayonnaise base it seems, more sweet than sour, and I like that. Fried okra... Was well... Fried okra, hard to mess it up it was good. The wife had hamburger steak and fries in which she loved the brown gravy.
Staple to me... Are the rolls, they are heavy and smell of yeast. You could make a meal of those puppies in themselves. Also the environment was pleasant, plenty to look around at, and was clean.
We will be back next time we are in the area.
** Update 7/23/2023 **
Was busy today, but found the service to be better than last time. Bunch of large parties today bringing life and noise levels higher, but it didn't bother us. My wife even took pictures for one of the families there. We had the hamburger steak, and shrimp Alfredo. Both were great, we will have to try other things when we go back. Again... Rolls were great, I would recommend bringing jelly out for them though!

This is our 2nd time making the 3 hour drive from San Antonio. The food here is so good! The chicken fried steak is definitely the best and we had Allie as our waitress and she was so awesome and super friendly! Definitely worth the drive. Can't wait to go back.

They are very patient when a group of ladies that used to work together at a little daycare in Tomball gather to share stories, laughs, and tears about their shared history. When we went in, the hostess was really rude, no welcome, she just grabbed menus, started walking towards tables and my son and I looked at each other and followed her. We thanked her, but she didn't acknowledge it. She just walked off. Awesome, delicious food, though. Server Anna was awesome, very attentive.

YES YES YES! This place is homecooked goodness! I died and went to heaven eating here. The menu is simple and yet has sooooo many amazing choices. I was in Texas for a week and ate here every day that I could! The chicken fried steak, I'm sorry the Worlds Famous Chicken Fried Steak is the only thing you need in your life. My server Nae was amazing and was always making sure I was happy, even during a Sunday church rush. If you are in the Tomball area and want some down to earth home cooked meals. This is the place! Family-friendly, amazing, polite staff and food that will leave you coming back for more. Nae, you are one amazing waitress, and I'll be sure to visit when I come back from Michigan.

Excellent home cooked meals. Large portions, great prices. Staff is quick, and friendly. A real asset to the restaurant, hopefully owners take good care of them. Definitely where you want to be for comfort food, or after a long day at work.

Excellent food. Home of the best chicken fried steak in Texas! I can't vouch for the all of Texas part, but it was delicious and I'm only got regular and not large.
"Real" mashed potatoes & gravy were good as were the black-eye peas. I'm told fried mushrooms, onion rings and okra were excellent also.

I placed a pick up order yesterday. It was the first time I've been back to Goodson's in many years. I have to say that the three dishes I got were excellent. The grill pork chops were very tasty and tender, the fried fish and shrimp were good, and the baked fish really great! We all enjoyed the sides too. Great yeasty bread and gravy.
I don't remember why I hadn't been in a while, but I will certainly be going back.

I had a chicken fried steak for lunch and chose green beans and coleslaw as sides. I like the quality of meat used and also liked the low sodium batter for the CFS. It comes with a gravy so it tastes just fine. Some places use too much salt in the batter and becomes too salty with the gravy. Both sides were also tasty and hot house baked rolls were nice.

I don't know how my review got posted as favorable. The chicken fried steak was horrible! Dry as a bone, crust falling off. This was my fourth time trying this chicken fried steak, no seasoning, dry and a waste of money. The place also needed a good cleaning. We live 3 miles from this place, and will not be returning.

I’ve enjoyed the best chicken fried steak fir many years, but yesterday I was extremely disappointed that my chicken fried steak was too tough and chewy. It didn’t even have much flavor like it always had in the past. On the plate it looked really large , but 1/3 of it was just plain breading when I cut it. I chose not to complain because the waitress was so nice. I didn’t want to embarrass her. We don’t think we will be visiting there anymore. So sad and disappointed.

I was there back in the late 1970"s and 1980's and they had the best food ever. I have friends that still live near there and say the food is still the best anywhere. I wish somebody would open one of those up here in New Jersey where I now live. I have tried chicken fried steak's at every place I could find and nothing compares to them.

We’ve been several times, food was good. Yesterday they were very busy, our poor waiter was running ragged, but he was always checking on us with a smile, aimed to please! Our only issue was they served our Appetizer same time as our meal and they were out of lemons. That won’t keep us from returning, we like the food and they’re always friendly!

Have been going here for years, but it seems like the food have just turned flavorless over time. Got the Chicken Fried Chicken, Chicken Fried Steak, MAC and Cheese, Mashed Potatoes, Fried Cheese and Gravy. Everything we got was totally bland and had no flavor. Sad to see this landmark go down hill, they used to have the best food.

The food was really good overall. The only reason I give 4 stars is the gravy was not a white cream gravy - it was a darkish gray........ and the banana pudding seems to just be the throwback "jar" type pudding with some vanilla wafers and bananas thrown in - and there were only a few bananas... Won't keep me from coming back - I am just more informed as to what not to get..... Service was good as well.........

It was a Monday around 1 in the afternoon, no wait to be seated. Our waitress Mercedes, was polite and attentive. We all had the chicken fried steak, the ladies had the small and the guys had the large. The CFS and sides were delicious! Glad we finally got to make it there.
