The food was excellent, the people very friendly, the kid friendly chalkboard was an awesome feature for our granddaughter, and this is definitely an all around great place for lunch. We grabbed some baked goods to go before we left so we could enjoy later. I highly recommend Kohnen's to anyone looking for a good meal.
We stop by the bakery every time we are in Tehachapi and often make special trips solely to visit this bakery. They're sandwiches are amazing. The Poor Boy is our favorite family meal because it's loaded with meats and cheeses. Their Carrot Cake is the best we've ever had. Delicious Eclairs and delicate Cream Puffs. Amazing Berry Danishes (not sure if it's Boysenberry or Blackberry but it's HEAVEN). Their pies are to-die-for and you will not be disappointed... even if you've decided you don't like a certain kind, try it and I swear you'll change your mind. Calling ahead to get some of your must-have's set aside helps if you're coming from afar so grab a menu on your first trip and mark down what looks good to you for future orders. There is an abundance of seating for an average day but for the busy days the place is packed, and rightfully so. You can't go wrong with Kohnen's.
Bought the peach pie, probably the very best pie we have ever eaten, it was almost too pretty to eat. Of course, the sandwiches are to die for. Can't think of any negatives!
We just happened to stop here while on a motorcycle trip. It had the best food & coffee ever. This is a must stop if you are in the area. It's worth the drive if you are not close by.
First time there and it was awesome. Great place love this place. People behind the counter were very helpful taking our lunch order and then after very helpful on items I wanted to take home. One of the ladies that help us with the bread. I felt she went out of her way to see if there was any sourdough loaves left. She came back with a slight slow and that was most appreciated. She went the extra mile to satisfy a new customer and we will most definitely be coming back here. We found a new place to eat in Tehachapi. 😎🤙
I'm original from Germany 🇩🇪, so it's a little bit of home. I love this place. I love the Bauernbrot and the cheese cakes. Wish there would be a bigger choice of sandwhich meats, why don't add hard salami to the list. And I'm a bit sad that the german store next door disappeared. But besides that, just keep it up 👍🏼👍🏼
I have been here several times without my husband and he finally was able to go with me yesterday. He was very happy that he went! The chocolate eclairs, lemon bars, cheddar bread, pizza bread, buttery rolls, and the German beers are all amazing! This is such a unique bakery in a quaint little town. If you are ever in the area it is a must try!!!!
This place was great well worth the money great huge sandwich we will be coming back again and again and again
Everyone is always so friendly. It takes me 45 minutes to get there and its way worth it. My family loves it there and the food is always top notch.
They have a delicious shrimp corn chowder. The bread that accompanies the soup is the best!! It's worth the detour when traveling through the area.
This place was fantastic! We stopped on our way home from Sacramento. It was cloudy , windy and really cold so had some delicious nut and vanilla coffee with the biggest chocolate covered macaroon I have ever seen! My husband had a huge turkey sandwich that was also delicious. Needless to say we will be going back very soon! Might be a great destination for a motorcycle ride from the Apple Valley area.
Everything I’ve tried has been amazing…but by far my favorite thing to eat is the bagel with lox! I seriously drive up to Tehachapi just to get it!!
This place was so delicious. We ordered one of the giant Poor Boy sandwiches to go along with a selection of pastries. The sandwich was absolutely loaded with meats and cheeses in delicious bread. As for the pastries, they were so tasty, it's a good thing we don't live nearby, or we would be there too often. Faves were the eclair and pecan roll. Everything was so reasonably priced!
Amazing bakery! We love coming here instead of fast food and whenever someone visits we always bring them here for breakfast or lunch. Sandwiches and everything in the case is delicious. Would definitely recommend stopping by and getting yourself a treat and sandwich.
Adorable, clean and friendly mom and pop German bakery and deli. We drive out here from Lancaster whenever we visit my in-laws. I usually get their tuna salad with German Veggies. Their soups are always piping hot and delicious. And don't get me started on the pastries. I would buy one of each if I could stuff that much in my belly. I one bought a wooden kitchen sign here that sums it up perfectly: "I ate my willpower.". My photo shows a half eaten salad ( I was hungry )
Went there to pick up a sandwich for a road trip, didn't expect to find this gem of a shop, all decorated with a german theme, plenty of German souvenirs, shirts, beer steins and some specialty food items.
Oh yeah, about that sandwich for the road, they had a variety of fresh bread, meat and vegetable options and sauerkraut to build your own sandwich, or you can choose from their sandwich menu, make sure to save room for dessert because they also have plenty of pastries, fresh pies.
I left with a pie, strudel, 2 loaves of fresh bread, oh yeah, and a hot, Delicious Reuben sandwich, big enough to feed 2 people with a pickle and chips.
My road trip just got better.
Such a great little bakery right next to the railroad tracks in the heart of downtown. The cheesecake and tiramisu were great. My family loved the zucchini walnut bread. A very good selection. Staff is hit and miss, but they're generally very friendly. I always stop here when I visit Tehachapi.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
First time visiting this year and I was 100% in love with it immediately. It’s like a sweet tooth’s heaven in there. The pastries and sweets are amazing! I also had lunch there a few times and the turkey sandwich is really good. The bakery has so much character and it’s very pleasing to look at. It’s usually busy there during lunch hour but I never usually had a long wait. I’m advocating for anyone who likes sweets as much as I do to go visit and try them all. I haven’t had that chance yet since I live in Bakersfield but this bakery alone makes it worth the drive. I know one day I’ll walk out with over $100 in debt and bags of sweets but I wouldn’t regret it at all. Please go and visit, it’s so great!
Pastries are delicious. They have so many delicious pastries upon entrance it makes it difficult to choose which items to take home. Each time I've gone I just pick up a few from each case. I have yet to try everything out which is great because it means many more trips for desserts for me. Every pastry I've tried is amazing . For sure this place is a must. Everything is delicious and reasonably priced. Best eclair's I've ever had. Zucchini bread is moist 😋. The oatmeal cookies delicious , cheese cakes yummy and don't forget the boysenberry pies
Nice place to spend your breakfast morning with lots to do at home. Today's brunch was casual and delicious. I loved the outside scenery as lots of old model cars go bye. Their General store on stand by after the meal, just a nice place to visit. I want to go back next month Octoberfest
