An absolute gem among a sea of fast food restaurants and diners. EVERY part of the experience was superb......from their specialty drinks to the appetizer to the main course allllllll the way to dessert! Do yourself a favor.......and get on over there!!!
We stopped in Tarboro on a road trip and had dinner at On the Square. The overall vibe was extremely friendly; it was like the staff knew everyone coming in the front door. The ingredient combinations on the menu were sophisticated beyond any expectations we entered with (given the prices), and our dishes were extremely well executed. Highly recommended.
We had the most fabulous dinner last night. Xavyer, wine guru, served us the most fabulous champagne and expertly paired our entrees. His attention to detail in the wine service is fabulous, WOW, we are so fortunate to have someone so passionate about wines!!! Cynthia, our server, was so attentive, sweet and kind. It is always a treat when she is in the restaurant. Josie, bartender extraordinaire, lends flair and creativity to all her cocktails. Tarboro is truly the crossroads of western civilization and On The Square is where we all meet!!!!
A great restaurant in Tarboro, which was a somewhat surprising find all things considered. The Sushi was great and the dishes I saw pass by looked really awesome. We sat outside which was a nice option. The wine selection was terrific even though I opted for a local beer from Tarboro Brewing Company but that was a great choice. The location isn't exactly on the "square" but it's 1 block off main, convenient, and easy to find parking. If you're headed east or west on US-64, take the short drive into downtown for some great, upscale but casual food.
Dinner is great here. Lunch is just ok. Service at lunch could use a vast improvement in the friendliness area. I have eaten here several times and it’s always the same. Dinner how ever is the best in the area.
Clearly one of the finest restaurants in town with a great wine selection. The place with filled with both locals and people from out of town. Very high quality food.
I had the Chicken Salad Cold plate for lunch. It was delicious. The young lady who took my order was friendly.
Great old school dinner and food. Not a bad thing in the menu.
Amazing fresh food with incredibly fast friendly service. My whole family (which includes two picky teenagers) left full and happy. They make HOMEMADE English muffins!!! Loved my open faced English muffin avocado, bacon, tomato and red onion with side salad topped with homemade blue cheese dressing.
The garden butter bean burger on the lunch menu was excellent! The food for our dinner experience was also great.
Sweet restaurant with standard American food. I was not too impressed by their Wednesday Sushi night. The rolls were creative but not too authentic. I feel like they traded simplicity and fresh fish for uniqueness. Their desserts however are amazing. I loved their strawberry shortcake! Not my first stop on Main Street but definitely a must visit if you are staying for awhile.
Order first then sit down eatery. Decent food and nice selection. Pricing was reasonable.

Such amazing food and great staff. Always feel welcomed and they include the personal touch. The food is always changing according to the season. I recommend this place to everyone that is local and visiting the area.
Great local eatery in Tarboro. Eat in or take out. The recommended sandwich is the Reuben's although mine was a bit too greasy!
WOW! This food is amazing! I love the small town of Tarboro, NC and finding something like On the Square in a small down is such a wonderful delight. They focus on world-class service and delicious meals that leave you full of love and great food!
