My boyfriend and I frequent Hokkaido. He lived in Japan for several years and loves this place. He says it's one of the best and most authentic Japanese restaurants on Staten Island. The staff is always friendly, the food is always fresh, the restaurant is very clean and your food is ready in a very timely manner. They recently renovated the restaurant and have been making minor upgrades including the physical menus and adding new items to the menu. Highly recommend.

Some of the best sushi in NYC. They do things differently with special sauces and soywrap instead of seaweed. Green River and Sweetheart rolls are some of my favorite. One star down because it's relatively expensive for the location.

The place looks nice by design. It is very small. Eventhough it is a regular sushi bar the regular rols are overpriced almost 2x. Weitresses are not responsive and in most of the times they cannot undestand what you want. If I would choose between chikurin and hokaido, I would choose chikurin for sure.
