Doubtful that Campo Spanish Springs could possibly be as good as the Reno mother ship, my husband and I tried it out on this first Friday night in December. I remember the building as the old Chili's; I forget what it was after that.
Campo has turned the space into as hip an urban space as the original. Starched striped cloth napkins grace the wood tables, and the dining space is flanked by floor-to-ceiling shelves and wine racks. We also noticed the bar has God knows how many beer taps (at least 60, by our estimation).
Enough of atmosphere, we thought. Does the food deliver? I haven't been to the downtown location in a year or two, but the menu looked like the same innovative, seasonal, and fresh-type selections (the ingredients of which were locally sourced, of course), I remember. We had a difficult time deciding from all the offerings, which included a pork chop with sweet potato puree and smoked bacon, a pan-roasted free-range chicken, Fish of the Day, braised short ribs, pastas, a New York strip, and a selection of wood-fired pizzas. I finally decided on the Cioppino Pasta. My husband had the spaghetti and meatballs. We started by sharing a drop salad, a Campo staple. My Cioppino Pasta arrived steaming and was delicious. Just the ticket for a cold December evening, and there was enough for me to take half home. My husband's spaghetti arrived with a huge dollop of ricotta, which he mixed into the fragrant sauce. Dessert was the Budino (I think), a caramel and vanilla custard dream, and fruit cobbler (apple) ala mode, with a delicious coffee blend sourced from Reno's The Hub.
Service was excellent and cheerful. Prices are commensurate with the food quality, a bit pricey but worth it. My concern is that the Spanish Springs demographic might not support this location. For our sakes, though, I hope Campo Sparks (Spanish Springs) does make it. It's a breath of fresh air in West Spanish Springs. If you're anywhere in Sparks or Spanish Springs, it's well worth checking out and frequenting often.
Our server Francesca was beyond helpful with our menu selections. It's not an easy task as my husband and I are Vegan. She took her time explaining and we ended up ordering the spicy Cauliflower appetizer and an organic Vegetable Pizza No cheese with a Balsamic vinaigrette drizzle and the flavors were incredible!
After dinner we were invited to sample some of the draft beers (There are 80!) We enjoyed our time spent with the Bar staff as they knew and shared so much information about the beer differences prices and specials. We even sampled a chocolate coffee beer! Perfect for dessert! We loved that you could shop around and buy bottles of wine for home or gifts as you wait to be seated or after dinner. The Restaurant was decorated with wood tabletops and medal chairs and looked clean and updated! We have already shared our menu selections in pictures on our Facebook and we've recommended this restaurant to our family and our friends. We had a wonderful experience. Thanks to the entire crew! Excellent

My boyfriend and I decided to try Campo on an impromptu date night not too far from home. We've tried Campo by the river before but not this location. We started with bread and cocktails (Kentucky Mule and the Bee's Knees which featured local honey) and they were quite tasty.
For our entrees we ordered the Shrimp Florentine and the Basil Crusted Salmon with Balsamic Glazed Wild Mushrooms. The mushrooms were tasty but we recommend them with a steak or possibly the spaghetti and meatballs rather than the seafood. We enjoyed the florentine however we were blown away by the salmon. The salmon was cooked to ABSOLUTE PERFECTION and even if it had been a bit dry the sauce had been to die for. We could not have asked for a better cooked piece of salmon ever.
Nice drink selection. 3 of 4 meals were great. One issue with the chicken. Appreciate the variety of choices and creativity of style of food.
The service was perfect, but their breakfast menu is lacking. I ordered the huevos rancheros and I was blown away by how much it was lacking in any sort of flavor. Both the pork chunks and potatoes were literally flavorless and to make the meal even better, the potatoes were so undercooked they were hard. I would have given less stars, but Ive been here for dinner before and it was wonderful. However, if the food continues on this path I can say for sure we won't be back.
I found this place extremely charming! My husband and I LOVED the pork belly appetizer and the sweet pig(?) pizza. They're lunch special chicken wings are whole, perfectly crispy and moist. I can't wait to go back and try their burgers.
