Review Ijji Sushi - Sparks

Bradley Nakaji
If you like Western fusion sushi, then read on. If not, skip to second paragraph. The vast majority of the patrons of Ijji Sushi we're partaking of the AYCE option for sushi. I saw platters of pleasing-to-the-eye sushi rolls. There are a plethora of veggie, fruit, dairy products, seafood and meat mixture rolls. Practically anything you can mix together into a sushi roll. I saw very little nigiri sushi and sashimi sushi. The wife tried an "Anita Roll" which was a shrimp tempura with tuna and avocado slices. She enjoyed it immensely. If you are more of a traditionalist, stay far away from this place. I ordered some basic nigiri sushi (tomago and inari) and a bento combo just to get a variety of the fare offered. I found that Ijji Sushi uses plain white rice for sushi. No vinegar, kombu or sugar. They cut the Inari pocket in half to get two small Inari sushi. The tomago is prepared like a regular omelet and tastes like one. The tempura appeared to have been dipped in fish and chip batter. It had a very heavy coating. The dipping sauce for the chicken was straight up A-1 sauce. I asked the wife to taste and she confirmed. The short grain rice served with the bento was dry as sand. I was honestly very disappointed. So if you enjoy westernized maki sushi. Then this place is fantastic. I witnessed a lot of the patrons tonight completely loving the sushi rolls. Seeing how much they enjoyed their meals, I would give Ijji Sushi a 4.5. If you are more of a traditionalist, then it would be a 1.

Everything was sticky?? the menus were sticky, the bathroom surfaces were all sticky, and even the credit card we gave them was covered in sticky stuff when they gave it back to us. Pretty much turned us off from the restaurant from now on. Although the food was great, we wonder how clean the place really is.

I love writing positive reviews so this was a hard one to write. It took over 5 minutes for waiting staff to notice we were even in the restaurant. The menu set up was difficult to comprehend, of which items were on the dinner menu and which ones were the lunch menu based on the formating. The waitress then stopped by a few times asking if we wanted all you can eat. We said no and she didn't comprehend we didn't want it. Explanation about how all you could eat worked or distinctions between items on the menu were unclear... We decided not to eat there based on quality of service in first 10-15 minutes and choose another establishment.

This place was sooooo GOOD, such a great deal with all you can eat. The Jj’s #1 AND #2 rolls were excellent, everything was amazing and the Tempura Icecream was the best Ice Cream I’ve had in a long time. Will definitely come again when I stop in Reno, great service!

Great sushi, bit serv8ce wad terrible. NO smiles, NO questions about anything. I asked multiple times about an order and wad told it takes a long time. We arrived at 12 am and only a few customers. Took close to an hour for 2 little appetizers. We eat at Ijji 2 often and never had this kind of (non) service. We have referred many over the years. Smile and check on customers periodically!!!!

Food was great! Cocktails are weak but that's yi be expected! Our server was very sweet and went out of his way to accommodate my friends lil one since she wasn't about to eat sushi lol

Some of the food was good. The service was terrible. We waited 15 minutes for egg shooters. I asked for a to go box 3 times (with eye rolls). For six (6) people they charge their 18 percent gratuity. The prices are way too high. I will never return to this restaurant.

I came here for a mobile pick up and the male bar server with a bald head really was rude to me, he told me my wait time would be extremely long and as I tried to sit he rudely said go sit somewhere else in front, I don’t want you over here. He seem to be racist and very unkind and embarrassing. I never felt so uncomfortable in my life.

Absolutely terrible service! Last night was my first and last visit to this restaurant. My husband and I brought our two friends from out of town for dinner. We stood inside the door for 10 minutes as multiple employees walked by and ignored us. My friend eventually asked someone to help, and they went to get someone. As we waited, we ordered a beer from the bar and was told it would be brought to the table once we were seated. After being seated, it took another 10 minutes for anyone to even acknowledge us. Once she came to the table, my friend reminded her about his beer which had never arrived. We handed in our order sheets for all you can eat, and about 15 to 20 minutes later a plate arrived. I asked the girl what the rolls were, and she listed 3 different rolls, only one of which we recognized. I told her we didn't order them. She said "Ok" and walked away. Eventually the beer showed up and was completely watered down. About 5 - 7 minutes after the first plate arrived and my husband had eaten the roll we recognized, a different waitress came and grabbed the plate off of our table and put another one down, saying the first plate wasn't for us. We then began to eat the sushi on the new plate, and two of the long rolls weren't even cut. They were one solid piece. We asked for a knife to cut the rolls and some napkins, and after a long wait we received a dirty knife. We ended up using our chopsticks to try and cut the rolls as best we could. After we finished our food (most of which was extremely dry and unappetizing) we asked for 2 orders of ice cream and a tempura banana for dessert. After about 10 - 15 minutes, ONE order of ice cream was brought to the table and we never saw our waitress again. We will NEVER be back to this establishment. What a gigantic waste of money and time.

Sushi was ok, but the service outright sucks now (used to be a good place). Not only is staff not on top of it, but they are unfriendly at best and rude at worst. If it weren’t for a gift card we wouldn’t have even come, and we won’t again.

We love this place. I see a lot of negative comments and feel for some of your experiences of poor service. But honestly, we've never experienced any of what is being reported. Maybe we are just lucky. Wen always greets us with a smile. Their rolls are delicious. They have great flavor combos that you just can't find at any other sushi restaurants in town. Of course that's a personal opinion, but we really have made the rounds at sushi places and always end up saying how much we love Ijji. Have we sat for longer than usual while we waited for our rolls to be made? Yes, but that seems to be a common issue at all sushi places, so I don't use that as a quality indicator. Makes me sad to hear so many speak poorly of a place I've had nothing but good experiences at. 😟

Vibe: CARELESS. Customer service is horrible. We usually prefer the bar for this reason because there sadly hasn't been one time we've gone here and been treated well by a server. I went on my birthday a couple weeks ago and we were waiting on our server for refills for 15 minutes and she was visibly siting on the bar eating sushi while we were watching her not serve us. That server went home and we ended up getting a new one for the last 10 minutes of our meal? If you want people to give you their service you need to be treating customers a lot better. Maybe hire a whole new staff that's driven and actually wants to be there. You lost my service with your response to people on social media, when someone gives you criticism maybe you should listen. I will be sure to let everyone know about your service towards people. And encourage not to come here.

We went 2 days ago. The service was horrible ! The fried food moon dog stars , pot stickers etc were freezing cold. The seaweed wraps were nasty like they had been soaked in rotten fish! I let the manager know and she just looked at me like I was stupid. It's really disappointing considering we have been going there since it opened!

Poor service. They did not even check up on our sushi until after we asked them. It was almost an hour and other groups had more service than us. I used to like this place about a year ago, but now I will never go back. Please do not waste your time or money coming here.

Took my boyfriend there for his bday dinner, as Ijji is one of his favorite restaurants.. they were not that busy, yet we had to wait 10 or so mins to be seated, waiter didnt seem to understand our order..they then forgot our Miso soup, ou1 sushi roll, and I told a server ( didnt ger any names, but she was also hostess this evening, 10/5, around 7:30p at sparks location) told her was there for a bday celebration, and if she could please bring out a piece of cake or some type of dessert..we awkardly sat there waiting, nothing ever came, told the waitress ( as she also took my payment) that she forgot our bday treat, and she just said, " oh..sorry"..seemed to care less. Terrible. left very disappointed..I hope someone from management reaches out to me. Thank you

Great food for those that don't eat sushi. I went with folks who liked it, but not me. So I was happy to see there was something that I would be able to eat. Great all you can appetizers too!

Lousy waitress, 4 of us ordered, 2 got their food 20 minutes before the other 2.. never again.

The Mussels were awesome, as a matter of fact the food was excellent. The service was great! The only place I will go for sushi!

I'm usually extremely understanding, bc I worked food service for awhile... but this place had the worst customer service I ever encountered.

Ijji is our favorite sushi place in town! Always fresh, always delicious! Staff is friendly and always makes sure we have a good time and leave full and happy! All of their locations are great!

It's gone downhill. Maybe it's too big for the staff or maybe the staff just doesn't care. As soon as you want in there is a bar that isn't used as a bar. It's used as a storage center and possible wait area. Not what it was intended for. Then there is a sidewalk sign with rules. Crazy rules of their pricing coming back at them. It's not the nicest thing to see as you are waiting to sit down. If these rules are a concern then they need to adjust their pricing to make it work. Bathrooms are always trashed with graffiti and the floors seem to always be wet. Food is "ok". It's sushi and it's fresh but it's just ok. When sitting at a table and ordering all you can eat they never finish the order form sent in. I assume it's because people over order and food is wasted. But they select which images to make and just toss the rest. Water is tough to get refilled depending on the one of day. The good part is that it's big. They work well with seating large parties but only at the beginning. If you do try this place work the bar. Sushi chefs save this place but the other staff seem to struggle with pressure. We literally watched a server scream at the front as the line got longer. She walked to another table and asked them to leave as they were done eating and chatting. We weren't too mad because that table was for us. LOL. I'm sad to see this place change so much. We have gone there since it opened and remember a very pleasant staff. I think disrespected rules and a loss of focus have made everyone a little upset. We live close but don't venture here anymore due to a lack of respect when voicing concerns.

Horrible Customer Service from the Owner. She was pushing employees and mistreating them in front of the customers and throwing trays on tables. She yelled at a young guy and told him to work faster. The new servers can’t communicate with the customer because they can’t speak English. If I could give them a negative rating I would. My sister-in-law stood up to complain about the way she was treating her employees. Then she was yelled at by another gentleman from the kitchen. Horrible horrible service!!!

This was our first visit to this location and let's just say we won't be back. It started out great, super friendly server with good appetizers coming out very fast and top quality. Then, that server informed us someone else was going to be taking over and then it went downhill. We submitted one ticket with rolls for myself, my sister, and our husbands. An hour later and only my sister and I got our rolls. We asked two staff members and eventually they told us to fill out another ticket of what we wanted. Waited an additional thirty minutes and still no food for our husbands (they did take a few bites off my sister and my rolls, and they did order two beers each). After being there for 1 hour and 45 minutes and only half our party getting their orders we had to get going because we arranged a babysitter for our kids. Asked for a manager, who ended up being unsympathetic at first. She did bring our husbands their rolls in to-go bags and did take off their beers. But still, who wants to eat their sushi in the far as we rush home cuz no one could seem to keep track of our tickets....

Took 30+minutes to get half of my order after asking the waiter multiple times where our order. After multiple times of asking where our order was when e received partial of our rolls they were not fully cooked.. they bad rushed it. Terrible experience.0

Everything but the food fucking sucks. Timing. Service. Management. It used to be great but go to the 2nd or 3rd instead. They can't run this restaurant anymore.
Joanna Lopez
Wen, the "manager," has poor management skills. Get her some training and maybe the place would get 5 stars.. pff grow up or go back to high school with the way you treat people..
Cody Morton
What's there not to love? From the staff, to the great food. Wouldn't or will not go anywhere else.
