I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. The hungry farmer was a tremendous place to eat breakfast, the omelette was amazing as well as the pancakes in their hand ground sausage. The world-famous home fries keep you wanting to eat more and more of them. The owner in waiter treated us like family and it deafly makes me want to come back to this place and eat again.

While on my drive back to NY from NC my van broke down in South Hill, VA. The repair shop recommended The Hungry Farmer restaurant & I am so very glad they did! The people were very friendly & the food was awesome! I tried the homemade chicken pot pie...it was the best I've ever had!

Great food! Stopped on our way to Durham from Maryland. Everything was tasty, service great and staff very kind. The chocolate cake is a must have.
I looked up places to eat in South Hill because we were from out of town and taking our Granddaughter to the Christmas parade! I saw The Hungry Farmer and instantly reminded us of a place where we live! However, it by far, surpassed our place! The food was great! Brisket, BBQ, burgers, Ribs and chicken salad sandwich were all awesome! But, none of it was as sweet as our waitress Tammy! It almost makes me want to move down there just so I can have this place to eat at! Honestly! Thank you Tammy! God bless you guys!
My husband and I both had the pulled pork sandwich with Cole slaw and fries and loved it. My son had a burger and said it was so fresh and delicious. The chocolate cream pie topped off s great meal. It is definitely worth the stop!
Found a great place in South Hill, VA called the Hungry Farmer. It's the kind of place that seems harder and harder to find. Friendly service, home-cooked food, home-made desserts, and the owner (Farmer Scott) and his wife would just as soon sit down and talk with you "a spell" as serve you some of their delicious food. Friendly doesn't cover it and the chocolate peanut butter pie is awesome. Here's a few pics if you find yourself in South Hill, VA (in the old downtown storefront section) stop in - you won't be dissapointed.
Friendly and family like staff. Homemade pies - coconut cream pie was like my Aunt’s recipe
Don’t leave South Hill without stopping here! A definite fantastic place, real food and great atmosphere.
Sweet place to eat! Worth the drive! 👍 Mark got the juiciest tender Smoked-Brisket sandwich & hand-cut fries 😍 YUM and I got The best meaty full flavored Crab Cakes with a wonderful dill sauce YUM again... Yes... We shared. All food & desserts are homemade and cooked on spot. No Frozen Food Here! The owner, Scott Is a warm friendly country man. He's the cook too and takes pride in his dishes. HEALTHY PORTIONS! You will not leave hungry nor disappointed. 👍👍👍👍👍 The prices were very reasonable. I would have paid more because they put their heart into the dishes! ... But glad I didn't have to, LOL, just left extra tip on the table for that sweet lady from Wisconsin that took care of on us ❣
GREAT food, awesome waiter I think his name is Chris
Quaint little place, great food! I'd definitely stop in there again.

Friendly staff and great food. Nice outdoor dining area, in addition to the tables inside. The brisket tacos are wonderful; I could only eat two. The picture is my leftovers.
Stopped in for a quick bite while traveling home. Very cute and cozy place with indoor and outdoor seating. Food was so delicious! Grilled chicken was cooked perfectly with great seasoning and flavor. Coleslaw was fantastic. Great service! Highly recommend.
Friendly, great food, nice atmosphere.
Must have brisket. Small quaint diner. Great owners. Support small business and try this. You will love it.
Found this coming home from a wknd trip. Excellent food. Simple dining experience. Great staff. We will be returning on our next trip that way.
I’m from Maryland and was on my way to NC when i stopped in for lunch. The people were friendly and the brisket tacos were delicious! I will definitely be back on my next road trip.
Fantastic food. Owner and waitress were great. Friendly and very helpful. Extremely clean. Definitely recommend. Be prepared to take food home!
I discovered this absolute gem while riding my bicycle from South Carolina to DC. Our breakfast and lunch was so good we decided to return for dinner. Fall off the bone ribs were probably the best I've ever had! The staff and patrons were so hospitable and we thoroughly enjoyed our visits.
Food was great... Good quality and reasonable price. Staff was friendly and inviting!
The coffee leaves a lot to be desired. But, on a positive note, I had a BLT and it was really good! The tomatoes were fantastic, the bacon and toast was cooked just right. My husband had the pancakes. He said they were good, but he couldn't finish them. If they served better coffee, I would give them 5 stars. They should try Community Coffee
A little small mom and pop restaurant in downtown South Hill. We went on a Saturday evening around 4:30. I got the 8oz. Rib eye and baked potato. Steak was a little under cooked but waitresses gladly took back and about 3 minutes later done to my taste. Nice and tender. Waitress was very helpful. Will go back again.
The cole slaw is nearly as good as my grandmother’s. It’s better than key lime pie (but you can get that too). The French fries are hand cut and excellent.
Delicious catfish, baked beans, and coleslaw. I enjoyed every bite. The service was great.
Great diner in South Hill, VA. The atmosphere was delightful and the meals were good. The loaded hotdog was delicious!
Good food and service. Will definitely be back.
Had breakfast. The breakfast sandwich was rather small but the sausage was very good. The rest of my party agreed: tasted good and had good flavor but pricey for what you got. Nicely decorated. Overall I enjoyed it and am interested in trying the lunch and dinner selections. They post daily specials above the register area although we didn't know this until we had ordered. No big deal. The menu and entrees are (or at least seem to be based on the menu) rather traditional Southern cooking. That's a good thing.
Again, my family and I will be trying this place again.
Very good service and excellent food. The Bacon Burger with grilled onions was delicious. The Pulled Pork sandwich was fantastic. The fries are hand cut and very good. If you want a home cooked meal then go to this place. We had a wonderful conversation with the staff.
