Normally I don’t get crazy excited about Mexican food, but El Potro changed my mind about that. This by far has been my best experience with Mexican food in Boston, and I’d recommend El Potro to anyone craving the Mexican comfort food and comfort vibes! Even the refried beans (I normally order all rice) were tasty and not mushy at all.
What we ordered:
Guacamole: solid guac, no complaints. They give a lot too
Tamale: presented beautifully and was delicious, packed with pork and topped with a hot sauce.
Chile Relleno: bell pepper stuffed with very juicy carnitas and topped with a nice portion of melted cheese, not skimpy but not too overwhelming. This was my boyfriend's and my favorite dish!
Enchilada Trio: 3 shredded beef enchiladas with green, red, and mole sauce. Their mole uses a semisweet chocolate (rather than the bitter dark you find at most restaurants that I don't like), this was a surprising hit for me! The red sauce one was my favorite.
We had Churros and Fried Ice Cream for dessert, and the fried ice cream was HUGE. I wouldn't have been able to finish it myself.

We were visiting here from Canada and we have a distinct lack of great Mexican food back home. This restaurant was amazing and after eating our appetizers we were so full we could barely eat our entrees. So so good!

Food was decent (chips and salsa may be the best I’ve had anywhere in the country), drinks were good, and service was excellent. Be diligent about checking your bill, though. They overcharged by ringing up the wrong item and adding another.

Typical casual Mexican restaurant in the neighborhood. Was craving for some Mexican food late at night and decided to got carne asada from this place. Overall steak and the sides were a bit salty and I didn’t like how the meat was too lean and dry. However, I did enjoy their choice of veggies on the side.

Being an LA native I have the worst hopes for Mexican food out in Boston as most places are a miss but this place definitely is the closest I have to it. The carne asada was a hit as was the horchata. True Mexican good restaurants start you off with chips and salsa and this place definitely made me feel at home from the moment I stepped in from the music to decor.

We’ve been to over a dozen Tex-Mex restaurants in the area and this place blew us away. Nothing comes close! We ordered Queso w/ Chips, Enchilada al Mole, and Chimichanga. Their homemade Salsa is delicious. Their Queso is the best we’ve had in Massachusetts. The Mole sauce was excellent (I use Mole sauce as a barometer for Mexican restaurants). 10/10.

It’s delicious. Honestly just an all around solid choice, one of my top choices in Somerville and Cambridge
