Cute place, good food. Only giving four stars though. When I pay over $50 for BBQ, I really expect to get a refill on my drink. I was unable to. Also they were out of baked potatoes at noon on a Saturday. They had a really good cucumber mint salad. Brisket was good, but you are paying $18/lb and cutting off thick slabs of fat that is about 25% of what you paid for.

Delicious BBQ in a great town. Fresh kolaches, and the jalapeno cheese grits were amazing. I got more to take home.
They don't skimp on the sides. Beets, cole slaw, grits are all a refreshing bite between softly smoked meats.
There's also a great store in the front with souvenirs, gadgets, housewares and more. I can't wait to go back.

This was the last stop on a 5-Barebecue joint weekend (started with Truth in Brenham). Micklethwait is an excellent smokehouse with a great selection of sides as well. The smoke on the brisket was great ... and the ribs were moist and easy to eat. My wife insisted on buying a jar of their pickles. Everytime I showed someone a picture of the barbecue they would say "wow, look at those pickles". Great town and atmosphere ... staff was very friendly as well. I don't normally give a 5-star review but this place is great ... I wish Smithville was closer to home.

I ordered a bacon cheeseburger also! Everything was delicious! Best BBQ meal I've had from a restaurant in awhile! The sides were made in house and you can tell! Small town home cooking! Yum!

Located in a small town with a big heart and amazing BBQ! The town is amazing to start. It has a historic feel and is beautiful.
We came for the BBQ and so happy we made the drive. We got a 3 meat plate that was plenty for two of us. Everything was superb. Pork ribs, sausage, collards, and potatoes were some of the best I've ever had. I will definitely be back.
The restaurant has a small shop in front to buy different sorts of goods, including cookies and kolaches.
People here are super nice and have huge hearts. And we learned as of this week they now ship to your home. Can't wait for my first shipment!!

Moving down to live on hubby's family land and he took me here for the first time. Now....I am quite particular about my BBQ joints. I have my favorite and not much can be done about that.....until today. Admittedly, their brisket was not up to my favorite place, but then again, my favorite place uses a premium brisket, not the regular cut.....and the price is substantially different. BUT.....their brisket was tender, good taste and did not require any sauce. Their ribs were tender and moist. Their Turkey was devine. Their side dishes were fabulous. We had the beans, scalloped potatoes and mac n cheese. Also tried the jalapeno cheese grits....WOW!!! Had a sample of the banana pudding and even though I am not a banana pudding kind of girl, it was oddly delicious enough to make me want more....creamy, sweet and just a hint of banana without being overwhelming. The chocolare chip cookies in the store were also amazing. The staff were super friendly, smiling and very engaged with their customers. I really enjoyed the environment and look forward to this being THE BBQ PLACE for my hubby and me. I usually dont get out of my fav place for less than $75, but we left here for only $35 including tax for x2 two meat plates with two sides each and trimmings and x2 20oz drinks....and we had left overs to take home.

Very well cooked brisket and the Mac and cheese was homemade and delicious. Sauce was not the best but also was not overly sweetened with corn syrup which was a nice change from most BBQ places. I'll definitely be back.

There is no such thing as paying too much for a meal at a restaurant..as long as what you remember fondly is the whole experience. Our first visit here today unfortunately fell far short of that. One sandwich, one stuffed baked potato, one side of potato salad, and two small drinks. The food seemed to reflect a noticeably half-hearted effort to create a unique flavor in their offerings. The result was a completely generic (and at times, distasteful) meal.
We might have been inclined to plan a future visit to be fair, if not for the nearly $40 cost of our small lunch today. No thanks. 😐
