Review Applewood Farmhouse Restaurant - Sevierville

James Stacey
First, my wife and I ate here twice for lunch and then for breakfast. Lunch was fantastic. Everything was delicious, and while it can get pricey, you get a ton of food for the price. One of our meals came with mashed potatoes, and they were delicious. They were so delicious we asked if they were real mashed potatoes because today, many restaurants cut corners using instant. The waitress, who initially seemed upset that just the two of us were sitting at her eight-top, warmed up and said everything was still made from scratch and in-house, which you could tell. We enjoyed our meal, so we returned before ending our vacation. The stores attached were a nice mix, and my wife found plenty to buy as I did at their hard cider store. Now, for our second meal, the food, which was breakfast, was just okay. It would have been great if we had received it warm, but we didn't. The issue we had was the service. We were sat in this side room with a fireplace. The room was nice but felt like something that had been added on some years ago as the room has no views unlike all the others and is behind a door next to the host stand. When we arrived, one other table had been finished for some time and looked ready to pay. After being seated, we waited nearly ten minutes before someone said anything. A guy with a bunch of boxes said someone was coming, and after I got up to inform the hostess that they might want to let the server know he had been seated a table, the guy who shouted down the hall at us turned out to be the server. The server started the conversation by arguing with us, saying he knew we were there and that he told us he was coming, to which I replied that he could have been a coworker letting us know that someone was coming and how were we to know a guy yelling at the end of a long hallway is our server. That was how we spent the first 15 minutes seated at our table. He spent the rest of the time in the weeds mainly because of his decisions and how he prioritized things. My guess is the food was quick to come out after the order was placed but died in the window waiting for him to expo the table. So after everything and watching a table walkout after sitting for a while without being greeted, we ate our food, paid, and left 90 minutes after being seated for some breakfast. This exemplifies how poor or lackluster service can affect a dining experience. Food is excellent when served hot; stores at the market have tons to offer, but be mindful of your server as you might want to change to someone else if warning bells start to sound, especially if they decide to argue with you about something. Also, while a manager checked on us during lunch, we did not see one for breakfast.

Stopped by on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. The place was packed with a 1.5 hour wait. Since every place in the area had a wait, we just decided to stay. We were seated after 1.5 hours and immediately brought some Apple Fritters with apple butter. These were delicious. We ordered Chicken and Dumplings along with Country Fried Steak. The food came out within a decent amount of time and tasted great. Service was a bit slower than we liked but it was understandable with how busy the place was. We would definitely come back.

Decided to try this restaurant while on vacation and wow, what a great spot! Not only was the food great but the service was amazing. I got the fried chicken with Mac and cheese, mashed potatoes and the cheddar broccoli soup. You even get a complimentary apple fritters and apple julep. There is also tons to see after you eat. I highly recommended this place.

Nice restaurant, we was seated at a table with swings, which was really neat. We had one of the Sunday dinner specials, the Angus ground steak, it was delicious. The sides are family style, so you can get all you want. Little pricey but the food was really good. Service wasn't great. The apple fritters and apple butter was very good too.

Fun southern dining experience! We loved the donuts and apple butter starter. Was a little disappointed by the pancakes, but they weren't that bad, just looked a lot better in the menu photo. Excellent breakfast potatoes.

We have always loved eating here. The food and service was not as good this time. Just average. The Apple fritters were wonderful! Loaded potato soup was good. Hopefully just an off day… we will try again!

Great family style dining experience. Each meal comes with apple fritters, apple butter, and an apple pineapple julep. All are very nice and tasty. I ordered the southern fried chicken with mashed potatoes and mac and cheese. My wife ordered the country fried chicken covered in gravy. With mashed potatoes and mac and cheese. Our food came out quickly and was very delicious. I am a very big fan of fried chicken and I can say that this was very good fried chicken. The sides with your dinner plate are unlimited so I got more mashed potatoes which were superb. Your meal also comes with a complimentary apple cobbler which we did not have room to finish at the restaurant. Overall, it was a very nice experience with excellent customer service and great family style food. We will be going again soon.

So many people recommended this restaurant (really the whole Apple Barn campus) & I’m so glad we went! If you like home cooking, this is the place for you! Complimentary apple fritters with apple butter & Apple Juleps are provided when you are seated. Variety of entrees, side dishes & desserts. My husband and I both had the sampler with fried chicken, chicken pot pie, & chicken and dumplings. Everything was delicious. The meal also comes with a choice of soup or wedge salad and dessert. So. Much. Food. You also can’t beat the price. Service was great. Just felt very homey.

We were seated as soon as we got there. Mikey V was our waiter. He was AMAZING!!!! Apple Julep sample was much appreciated and apple fritter sample was warm and delicious. Hubby ordered a medium steak which was unfortunately well done (hence the one star taken off). Chicken Alfredo was delicious. Mack and cheese was creamy. Potato soup was very good as well. I got the trio sampler. The chicken pot pie was too sweet for me but that’s just a personal preference. Chicken and dumplings were good but bland. However, we would return and maybe try something different next time.

Dinner review: Applewood Farmhouse Restaurant doesn't quite live up to the hype; the food provides a good enough home-style meal that will really fill you up, but the interior's harsh cool white lighting creates a strange uncomfortable atmosphere. At first the prices seem a bit expensive with nearly all entrees costing $20-22, but this price includes a small side salad or cup of soup, mashed potatoes (for some reason), an additional side, and a choice of apple cobbler or apple spice cake dessert. (Ice cream can be added or other desserts can be substituted for a small price.) This is all in addition to a complimentary small cup of juice and apple fritters when you're seated. This ends up being a lot of food, so only go if you're ready for a full meal as "a la carte" doesn't seem to be an option on the dinner menu. The food itself is good, but not great. It's a step above Cracker Barrel for sure, but we agreed that a lot of what we ate tasted extremely salty. I had the pot roast, one of the restaurant's "signature dishes" and loved the big chunks of hand cut carrots, potatoes, celery, and onion that accompanied the tender meat, but the broth was too salty, to the point that anyone with even minor sodium dietary restrictions would be wise to avoid. The chicken and dumplings were also heavily salted. The ubiquitous mashed potatoes though were very creamy and buttery and I'm glad they included them with the meal. For my included dessert I had the apple cobbler and I paid $0.99 extra for ice cream, and that was the best dollar I have spent. The apple cobbler alone is excellent, but having it "a la mode" takes it to a whole new level and really balances out the strong spices (cinnamon?) in the cobbler. The pre-meal apple fritters were great, but the juice was watery since it was served over ice. Maybe warm apple cider would have been better, even in the summertime. My biggest disappointment with the restaurant though is the atmosphere. We were seated in an interior room with no natural lighting and the lights in the room were very harsh cool bright white bulbs that created an uneasy feeling. I almost wonder if someone accidentally ordered the wrong light bulbs but they decided to go with them anyway. The decor itself feels rustic, like a farmhouse, with lots of unfinished wood and brick, and some warm lighting would go a long way to make it feel more cozy (the way I imagine it would have been years ago). The staff was friendly and the service was lightning fast, but I can't get over the strange feeling of being in that interior room. I'm certain this wouldn't be a big issue if you get a table next to a window during the daytime. Overall I arrived hungry, ate a lot of food that arrived very quickly, and left extremely full, so the experience was good, but not as good as I was expecting. I think we'll definitely go back again in the future, but I wouldn't mind exploring other options in the area too.

We tried this restaurant based upon personal recommendations. It’s an old house with many rooms. Very nostalgic. You start off with apple fritters & apple butter plus a small glass of mixed juice- apple, orange and pineapple. Both were good. My husband ordered the chicken and dumplings with a side of mashed potatoes and applesauce. I had the chicken pot pie with a side of mashed potatoes and green beans. He started off with the broccoli cheddar soup, which he said it was very good. And I had a mini wedge salad with the onion vinegar at which was tasty. The chicken and dumplings were loaded with chicken. He said it was very good. My chicken pot pie was a little less desirable. The crust on the outside was nice and flaky and light brown but the middle of the crust was still under baked and the other underside and the filling was mostly potatoes and peas. I had two carrot slices, and maybe a teaspoon of shredded chicken. There was no chicken to be had in this chicken pot pie, although it was very tasty, I was missing the chicken we would definitely go back. I just would never order the chicken pot pie again. The green beans lay soaked in a bowl of water, should have been drained more.

The best southnern food anywhere. what a treat it was to bring my wife and son here. the food was amazing. Server was on point. Great place to come. plenty of things to do and see on the property. To all you out of town folk that have not eaten true southern food keep your negative comments to yourself. There isn't one thing wrong with this place. So go to fast food and eat there!!!!

We love this place! Definitely a family atmosphere, and you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. This being a repeat visit (maybe our fourth), I decided to take pictures of the decor rather than the food. I will tell you that the Apple Fritters, Apple Muffins, and Apple Butter they give you to start can be addictive. I got the Farmhouse Smokehouse Sampler Breakfast, and my wife got the Farmhouse Bacon Breakfast. Soo delicious. What I noticed about the decor are all the hand painted birds, chipmunks, racoons and more. Whoever did them is gifted. The room where we ate had hand painted apple tree leaves. I hope they always leave it that way.

Stopped for lunch and had generous portions for the price ($16 or so). Greeted with an Applewood Julip drink and a fried apple treat. Service was top notch, food was delicious and much cleaner than last visit. Entry/exit could be closer for those with accessibility needs.

The apple fritters are amazing. My breakfast was very good no complaints at all. My family enjoyed their meals also. My oldest liked the fried potatoes the most.

We love the Apple Barn! Only waited 15-20 minutes for a table, food was delicious, & our waitress was very friendly and attentive! You can’t beat the apple fritters with apple butter, they are SO good! Definitely worth going here if you’re in the Pigeon Forge area!

Went in this morning for breakfast and was seated immediately by very friendly staff. As always incredible apple fritters with apple butter is brought to the table first thing as well as refreshing cider. It's always hot and delicious with a spinkle of powdered sugar. I ordered a two egg and bacon plate. I had scrambled eggs with american cheese that was cheesy goodness. Three strips of smoky salty applewood bacon cooked perfectly. A light fluffy buttermilk buiscit with delicious sausage gravy. A bowl of grits that I put butter and sugar in and it was next level. Very well cooked potatoes that were seriously good. As always a sweet cup of stewed apples to complete this incredible breakfast experience. Along with my glass of cold milk this was a fantastic meal. The waitress was very friendly and attentive. She was very sweet to my one year old daughter. The atmosphere is like an old southern manor with a huge fireplace. The whole experience is very enjoyable. I've never had a bad meal at Applewood Farmhouse but I do reccomend breakfast the most. This place is a must stop for any visit to Pigeon Forge.

Great food, great Service and pleasant atmosphere. We had a nice lunch at the Applewood Farmhouse. Our meal started with a small juice to cleanse the pallet. The server then brought a basket of warm fritters and apple butter. The meal also includes a cup of soup. My girlfriend enjoyed the vegetable soup and I enjoyed the Broccoli Cheddar soup. I had catfish with slaw and sweet potato casserole. My girlfriend had the turkey with dressing with green beans and fried Okra. I thought that the catfish was excellent. My girlfriend thought her Turkey and dressing were good, but not excellent. I had the same impression of the sweet potato casserole. The apple butter is the best. It is worth the short walk to the Apple Barn Gift Shop to pick a jar or two up. Sherman, our server, did an excellent job. He was welcoming, knowledgeable, and efficient. Portion sizes and prices were reasonable. The restaurant is broken up into several small dining rooms. The atmosphere is pleasant, but not out of the ordinary. I am looking forward to a return visit.

Great country meal! Our server was excellent and super friendly! We started with the apple julip and apple fritters. I hate apple juice and it was delicious! The apple fritters are pretty good. My daughter and I shared the country fried steak and it was delicious! (And I do not care for white gravy.) The collard greens were good but did not care for the mashed potatoes. They were salty and too thick. Cobbler was ok, had much better. It was a great experience but for me was a once and done sort of deal. Wished the Creamery stayed open later!
