Some of the best food I've had anywhere, in any genre. They showed care in every aspect of flavor and presentation. Magnificent!
Everything was absolutely perfect, fresh fish awesome!! authentic japanese sushi restaurant, we would absolutely come back soon!! delicious food and great service, best sushi restaurant we are sushi lovers.. been there in Oct. 2015, congratulations to all the staff !!
Phenomenal. We didn't have a reservation but they made room. Tight fit and the servers were rushing and busy but they were friendly and nice. The food was excellent. Will definitely be on our list to go again next time we're in town.

Get a reservation before you go. We were super lucky to get in without a reservation. Food was so good and sushi was so yummy. Decor is nice, place is small and cozy( feel at home kind). Kid friendly too. Tea was so good. Just loved the place. Will go back again and again.
Love this place, good service great food! Dragon roll is amazing.
The food was delicious and the service was great. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. Whenever we come back to Seattle we will be paying them a visit for sure.
The traditional Japanese brunch is divine.
We get a seat luckily without any waiting(Ya!!!) nice food, good presentation and nice service, it's a little bit pricy but worth to go!
Best sushi and chicken oyakudon ever. Ever. Service was great and easy parking. Can't wait to come back to Seattle rand eat there again. This time I'm bringing a party!
Someone just asked what the Best Asian cuisine in Seattle is & this is my top pick! Second notable is Jade Garden Dim Sum, followed by Dim Sum house on Beacon, Mae Phim on Columbia & Wild Ginger on 3rd. Thai Tom's (probably any old building on the Ave) is unclean but people love it anyways. Thai Ginger & Ku round out other solid Asian restaurants except the quality is not near tsukushinbo & they are both in the udistrict area & lack Japanese style & authenticity.
Chef Sho is super-friendly, makes delicious sushi, and shares a love for good Japanese music. :-)
First time trying out an onigiri restaurant, and everything was excellent! Highly recommend going with a group so you can try as many dishes as possible. All the food pairs really well with drinks, and they have a great selection of drinks to choose from!
Get there before the rush all parties must be present before being seated. Food was very good.
The ume onigiri was delicious and loved the salted salmon ochazuke. Both highly recommended. The cheese onigiri was different but surprisingly good. Not overly cheesy. Had a chance to try the katsu don, nice and crispy served over hot rice. The piri kara buta bara don was specially good as well. The oyako don was delicious too. Our luncheon was so yum, we rolled out happy and full!
It is more rare to find a Japanese restaurant focused on non-sushi/bento items here in North America so for the specialty factor alone I think this place is worth trying. The service and quality of food was excellent.
I loved both the butter Yaki and Special Mentaiko onigiri. The grilled/charred flavor of the cheese paired with mentaiko gave it a bold and unique flavor. I also ordered the Oyako Ochazuke with original dashi broth. This was alright in my opinion but a bit plain and one dimensional in flavour. If I were to order ochazuke again I would definitely order it with green tea instead of dashi.
Love their food. Found the restaurant through Instagram and the food doesn’t disappoint. We ordered mentaiko and sake onigiri, unagi musubi with curry noodle.
My favorite was the unagi musubi - it had the best taste with perfectly sauced eel with soft eggs wrapped with rice and seaweed. Id definitely come back to order it.
For drink - id recommend matcha lemonade! It has bitter taste from matcha that goes well with sweet lemonade.
Only downside was that parking require to be on street and there’s not a lot of seats.
Hidden gem!!! Every single piece of dish here is so authentic including grilled rice , curry udon, rice wrap, sparking sake, friend chicken! Love it absolutely LOVE it!!!
Onibaba's selection and quality is outstanding and were quite possibly the best onigiri I've ever tried! The rice was delicious, the toppings were fresh, and the nori was the perfect consistency to still provide a nice crunch while also being just soft enough. I ordered the sake (salmon) and ume (Japanese plum), and my wife ordered the Ebi Mayo (tempura shrimp and mayo) and the yaki onigiri with sweet miso paste (all pictured) -- and everything was just absolutely delicious!
This place is undoubtedly worth your time, especially if you like or have always wanted to try onigiri!
ごちそさまでした!
One of the few places in Seattle worth going to, both from a price and quality standpoint. Small, classic Japanese bites in a cozy unassuming location. First come first serve, no reservations.
Everything pretty spot on. Only complaints would be the onigiris have too much white rice, and the cheese cod one was too cheesy, a little overwhelming.
Get the musubi - great balance of ingredients and flavor.
Avoid the honeydew sake.
As soon as an Onibaba Instagram reel popped up on my phone, I knew I wanted to go there; so we went there for lunch the very next day. On our table:
Tuna Mayo Onigiri
Cheese Yaki Onigiri
Oyako Onigiri - salty salmon and salmon roe
Ajitama Onigiri - marinated egg and sesame seeds
Unagi Yaki Chazuke - Grilled rice ball, grilled eel and egg
We had ordered Tuna Mayo onigirl in another restaurant the night before we came to Onibaba. Our daughter had really enjoyed the Tuna Mayo onigiri the night before; she enjoyed the Tuna Mayo onigiri at Onibaba even more.
My daughter and I are both cheese lovers so we each got a Cheese Yaki onigiri to ourselves. Crispy rice on the outside, gooey cheese on the inside. I loved this; however, with all the other food we had on the table, the Cheese Yaki onigiri was a bit heavy on the stomach. I might have fared better if I'd gone with a Kombu onigiri, which was my original plan.
Oyako and Ajitama were both tasty. I did wish there had been a bit more egg in my Ajitama onigiri. I let my husband try it, and there was almost no egg left in it by the time he handed it back to me.
Unagi Yaki Chazuke came in a bowl, accompanied by a teapot which contained broth for us to pour over the onigiri. I love how this restaurant has so many different types of onigiri offerings!
Service: Good
Parking: Paid parking on the street
Location: 515 South Main St., Seattle️
Cozy, fresh and lively is what I would describe tsukushinbo. Food was amazing. Not just sushi, the beef tongue and other were amazing as well. Picture don’t lie and I have already been there 2x. Will visit again when I’m in seattle next time.
Nice spot to grab small Japanese bites. Went on a Friday afternoon and took about 40 minutes to be seated. Small place, feel bad because you can tell they are understaffed. The udon came out fast, like 10 minutes but the oninigri took 30+ minutes. It was okay, I’d come back to try something else.
Lovely hidden gem with great onigiris and other Japanese fare. It was pretty difficult to find as there is not a big sign out front, but it is located where it says on Google Maps!
*Important Note*
They just opened at the beginning on May, 2023 so ignore all reviews and pictures before this point!
Past reviews were for when this space was just Tsukishinbo but this is a whole different restaurant and menu.
Great food, great service, great atmosphere.
I had the katsu curry (pork) which was delicious. The curry didn't taste much different from S&B out of a box but that's still doing it right in my book. Miso soup was solid.
I asked for a half-sweet Lemon-Hi and it was perfect, I could've easily kept having those all night.
I got 3 onigiri to-go: tuna mayo, mentaiko, and unagi. I had them an hour later so the nori got hydrated but I can attest from seeing neighboring tables get fresh ones, it comes out crisp and smelling amazing. I particularly the mentaiko and unagi, as you'd expect, but I'd get all 3 again.
Prices were right on.
Katsu curry, $22
Lemon-Hi, $12
Onigiri:
Tuna Mayo, $6
Mentaiko, $6.5
Unagi, $7
The guy running front of house was a beast and a friendly one at that. He was on top of seating people, serving dishes, tracking people waiting outside for a table, taking orders, serving to-go orders to others waiting outside, and rembering everyone and everything thrown at him. At the while, being informative, kind, and apologetic for any amount of waiting, even though it was totally understandable given the absolute onslaught of people that came as soon as they opened back up for dinner. Mad respect, they got the right guy for the job, although it's frankly a 3 person job and they could certainly use more staff so my man doesn't collapse 😄
Very highly recommend this place, as long as you're willing to wait 20-45min for a table and 10-20 for takeout (if ordering more than what they have in the prepped onigiri case).
What a hidden treasure in the international district! I got the luxury to dine in and sit at the front right next to the chef. Head Chef & owner Sho served us katsu & fried rice, onigiri and several rolls. This truly was an amazing experience, after dining I got the chance to speak to Sho and learn more about his practice & history of the restaurant. It’s been family owned since inception and had many hometown legends such as Ichiro frequent.
Apart from dining the seating is quite cozy but do not let that deter you from what awaits inside! Best to call weeks in advance to book your reservation as they are always in high demand.
10/10 would visit again next time I find myself in Seattle! Perfect walking distance from Kinokuya book store if you’re looking for something to do before & after your meal.
As soon as I heard about Onibaba I had to check this place out, there is not a lot of places in Seattle to get Onigiri so I was excited to learn that is place existed, I have to recommend all of the Yakionigiri it is such an unique way to enjoy the dish, if you have a free moment to drop in, or need a nice sit down please you have to check out Onibaba
(June 2023)
I really enjoyed this restaurant. I went pretty late but they were good about keeping the wait-list going until ~45 min before close and didn't rush us after close. Wait was about 20 min outside, be prepared for that. I almost left, but I'm glad I decided to stay.
They were out of a lot of things, the saddest one being all the donburi. We got the curry udon noodle and it was very yummy. I also tried the karaage onigiri and tuna mayo onigiri. Both were good but I prefer the tuna mayo.
We got the noodle bowl to split between 2 and it ended up being the perfect amount. I'm also really happy that they offered to split the bowl because normally servers won't ask. We were struggling to finish our bowls actually because they were so big, and I enjoyed the spicyness of the bowl as well. I really feel like I got good value from my meal.
I wish their restaurant was larger because we were very close to the tables next to us and it was a little uncomfortable. I also hope that they consider adding more onigiri options with spicy mayo instead of just mayo.
I'd love to come again and try their donburi and other onigiris.

Update July 2023
I came back one month after my last visit because I wanted to try other dishes from here. Here's my verdict: stick to the curry noodles, they are the star of the show!
I tried the eel onigiri and thought it was decent, but it didn't come pre wrapped like the others did which was odd.
I tried the sake (salmon) ochazuke and I really do not recommend it. It was too salty and felt like I was mostly drinking hot salty water. And I had the katsu donbori which was basic normal katsu curry. You can get the same thing at Hurry Curry for way less waiting time. Stick to the curry noodles!
I am still asking for a spicy mayo + tuna onigiri :)
Accidentally-on-purpose tried their new concept on opening day. Folks were kind and attentive, it was delightful.
The onigiri!! So fresh, gently warm, a bit of filling in every bite. They half wrap the onigiri so that it's presented prettily and you still have some crispy seaweed to enjoy.
The curry udon was also excellent -- it was so flavorful and leaned bright and savory (I often find Japanese curry to be too sweet/carrot-forward. This was not that!)
Also had their agedashi tofu and saba shio - tasty and balanced.
Will definitely return, as there are 18 onigiri to try!
It was pretty good!
We came here for an early Sunday dinner and was impressed! The place is kind of hard to find because of the subtle sign, but super easy to find parking in the area.
I would highly recommend the nigiri and sashimi here. The onigiri and sushi rolls were just okay, nothing super special in my opinion. The service was also really good, and I really enjoyed the atmosphere. Our server also had the chef make us some off menu items based on what we liked.
I don’t think any other sushi place in Seattle comes close in terms of the value you get here!
