Incredible place. Situated in a quaint street level on California avenue, we were surprised that this was our first visit. We asked for the chef's sashimi platter and were surprised with a monkfish liver on Shiso leaves and stringed daikon, seared sanma with spicy red miso & scallops with lemon and sea salt. What a combination! Truly out of this world! We had to try the Albacore poke with macadamia. This was probably the best poke we ever had, including our gazillion jouts in Hawaii. Wanting to sample the whole fare, we ordered the crispy ginger chicken and the spicy fatty temptation roll. The roll was perfect, the chicken was good; I prefer the spicy ginger chicken in kushi bar. I'm into sake, but decided to go green tea today. Service is great and friendly and the atmosphere is super casual with abundant locals. Overall, the best Japanese restaurant so far in Seattle area. We are hooked and will be back this weekend to try their Umi.
there is no better place to experience a unique dining experience than Mashiko. whether you eat fish, raw or cooked or not at all, there is something for every palate.Seafood is where Mashiko shines. everything you enjoy is 100% sustainable. So good! the staff is knowledgeable and the service is excellent. I highly recommend reservations.
Amazing it had to be the best sushi I've ever had. We close to do an8 course chefs choice meal. Knowing my allergies it was put together so quickly even our server didn't know what was coming next David our server was both informative and friendly
The best ever ever ever ever! From the staff to the food everything is outstanding! Highly recommend you try this place if you have not already.
This was a PHENOMENAL dining experience. I brought my mom here (she's an Osaka native) for some Japanese cuisine with a good reputation. We ordered the omakase and it was a real treat! Chef Sato takes traditional Japanese cuisine and pushes its boundaries by adding his own creativity and style to classic dishes. My mom was surprised (in the best way) by some of his innovative combinations and spins on traditional dishes, and she's tough to impress. Additionally, the wait staff is simply wonderful and they are very knowledgeable about the entire menu. We had a fantastic evening there and we can't wait to go back soon! AND the cherry on top: the fish that they serve is sustainable! Thank you so much for the amazing dining experience. We'll see you all again soon!

What an amazing little gem of a sushi joint. The food was amazing and it turns out they pay their kitchen staff a livable wage instead of expecting them to live on tips. Never been so happy to tip anyway!

Outstanding dinner with my sisters last week. Tried so many new things - still dreaming about those lemony, buttery scallops that melted in my mouth! Our server was terrific - recommended lots of amazing things to try! Can't wait to visit Seattle again!
We had a 6:45 reservation, and weren't seated until 7:30. Was the wait long? Yes, but was was it worth it? Absolutely!!
It was incredible. The food was AMAZING. I also appreciated how they had no issues dealing with my gluten allergy. I would definitely go back again and again.
Had a great time for my wife's birthday. The food was great and the staff treated us great. We learned a lot about our food and sake from the staff. It is in my wife's top 5 dining experiences.
Best sushi bar in Seattle. Sustainably sourced, fresh seafood prepared with the most delicious seasonings. Your taste buds will hum with pleasure.
Very good food and great entertainment and educational to talk to chef/owner Mr. Sato. If you like sushi, you'll love Mashiko!
Great fish. Three of us ordered three Fatty Temptations (Toro, scallions, garlic oil and tempura roll. Had three other rolls and excellent ngiri with a white Salmon that was memorable. Our server, Chris, was a great host and got my wife lined up with a cider. We'll be back!
Amazing and creative food art with scrumptious flavor explosions!
Sustainable and artfully prepared, the best sushi in Seattle. Thank you to Gary and Hajime for the beautiful service and preparation.
I'm still full, and I'm so tired. But in a word: exceptional. In two words: defied expectation.
I'll be back! Thank you Gary for excellent guidance as our server and to Chef Sato for this delicious experience of excellence and creativity.
It was one of the most incredible food journeys I have been on. It was a little bit of everything wonderful!
Fabulous food. Super fresh. Steve, our server, is an expert on Saké. I would eat here every day! Loved it.
Went here for the Omakase experience, chose the Tomodachi format and everything that was brought out was absolutely stunning looking and delicious. There was so much food and they timed it out so well. Definitely recommend trying this experience, the chef's are masters at curating a well thought out and seamless dining experience.
Experienced my first omakase dinner here! I chose the Taiken-Suru for 12 courses of adventurous eating.
Highlights of the meal include sake poached oysters, trout sashimi, a whole fried ling cod collar, monkfish liver, uni served straight from the spiky shell, maitake mushroom and fish soup in a tea pot. Really every single dish was delicious and well composed.
I also really appreciated how they all came with some vegetables and that they were all done really well too. The pickled onions and radish were superb.
The chefs also took care to share the sourcing of every dish they served us and it was great to hear about all the local fish and shellfish they used.
Service was stellar and overall we were very impressed by the whole experience. Highly recommend if you are craving fresh seafood and creative dishes and well worth the drive even if you live far from west Seattle!
Enjoyable first sushi experience!
The restaurant is cozy and casual... 10 tables with a few extra seats at the bar, a mesmerizing fish tank, and bathrooms with bidets.
It's a popular spot in the heart of West Seattle junction, so highly recommend reservations. Additionally, during the online reservation system I was able to add in food allergies which the chefs made a note of and adjusted a few of our items.
I enjoyed the katsu salmon rolls and the melt-in-your-mouth nigiri. We ordered the 7 piece chef sampler, but I'd recommend just ordering a la carte to get two pieces of a few different types.
The watermelon sorbet tasted fresh, but was frozen solid and pretty icy. Edamame was ok.
Several vegetarian/vegan options available and gluten free options were noted on the menu.
Free street parking, but in a busy area.
This was by far, the best sushi I've ever had. The whole experience was amazing, our server Devon, was friendly and patient. But the sashimi was the real star of the show; it was fresh and flavorful and more incredible than I imagined. A friend referred me here and now I know why. Don't miss a chance to eat here, it's a little spendy, but well worth the cost.
@mashikoseattle IS the best sushi in all of Seattle and the surrounding areas. Huge credit to the owners for making it a sustainable sushi restaurant. The Oiwai Omakasi was perfection: house grated fresh wasabi, umami pickled accompaniments, sustainable seafood that required no additional sauces & house cocktails that showed the flavors of the respective shochu.
Exactly one week ago I enjoyed a meal here with my dad. I haven’t been able to get it off my mind since. We turned over our entire meal to the whim of the Chef. Each course of our omakase was paired with sake… I am almost tearing up at how perfect it was.
I have been a sushi lover my entire life… I have NEVER had sushi like this. It is absolute perfection. Cheers to the people who care this much about quality in is most essential form.
Enjoyed the Oiwai omakase experience with friends. Every course was well plated and delicious, timed for a leisurely meal with conversation and relaxation.
The sashimi course, in particular, was my favorite because each slice of fish was paired with a pickled or preserved vegetable that gave me a new flavor experience.
The nigiri course was also extremely satisfying in terms of texture and flavor. Extra care was evident in many small details throughout the meal.
The space is older, kept clean and neat, but it is small and they share refrigerator space with the business next door. This restaurant has been in business for decades, passed from original owners to a person they trained who shares their passion for good food. They source sustainably grown ingredients.
It was our first time here and we decided to do Omakase. Parking was paid street and lot and the space instead was small, make a reservation! It was very busy and every table was filled throughout the night.
There different levels of Omakase that you can choose from and styles vary. We went with a more traditional type of meal and opted in to be adventurous and traditional.
We got to try a lot of different types of fish, dishes, and an interesting dessert. We thought everything was fresh and made very well. The only dish I didn't enjoy much was the sake butter rice with gooey duck and mushrooms as much, I felt that the dish was a bit bland and had a very strong sake and butter flavor, which I was not a fan of. The monkfish liver, the mahi mahi, and overall the experience was good. According to our server, each experience is customized to the customers and can look different from each table. It depends on what you like, allergies, and how adventurous you want to be. The dessert was good, a fried mochi with a soy bean dusting. It is a red bean filled-chewy mochi dough with a slightly sweet peanut butter tasting coating.
Our server was fantastic and so helpful in explaining each dish and very nice. We felt that the service was a bit slower than we expected and waiting in between dishes was a bit long, but dishes were made well and care was taken to craft.
We didn't get a chef's seat, so we were seated at a table. Instead of each piece being made one at a time, we got plates of multiple pieces at a time. It would be a great experience to sit at the chef's seats if you can get one!
A great place to try fresh fish and seafoods, wonderful staff, and delicious food. I'd recommend for a date night, someone wanting to try new and adventurous dishes, and a great atmosphere.
Excellent! The food is so unique! Not your average typical menu. My first time there with my daughter, she had been there tons of times. The 5 stars are for the food - great rolls and exquisite sushi. Our waiter (tall slender man) was amazing! Wow! What terrific customer service! The only downside is that it's a super small place and highly sought-after so if you don't have reservations it's over an hour plus wait. Even if you call to pick up it's a very long wait. I wish the could move to a larger location! But super cute inside.
Had an amazing dinner her with my sister last night. Not often I get a fine sushi experience, but seriously had zero complaints about this place. I am a picky sushi eater and each piece of seafood I ate made me want to have more. Great service and our server made amazing suggestions. Can’t wait to return.
This is a place for adventurous sushi lover. If you are feeling curious for some exotic sushi courses, do Omakase, and this experience is not cheap. Lost 1 star because the wait time was 3 hours for my Omakase course. Other than that, it was fun to try new things.

The food was intriguing, the seasonings were a combination of subtle hints and bold flavors! the part that really stood out was the quality of the food. I've had my share of salmon both cooked and raw. It's hard to find a place that served good salmon. The sushi I ordered was exquisite. Unlike most places places that serve sushi, this place didn't overwhelm it with rice. The selection of sake is insane, definitely a place worth stopping if you love sushi.
Lovely dinner at the chefs table! I love the adventurous offerings and tried squab and okara donuts that I’ve never had before! Thanks Brandon!
Came for the honkaku experience and were not disappointed. Sake was paired with every dish and thorough explanations were given for each pairing and course. Service was attentive but not overbearing and the chef even came out for a few select dishes. Our favorites were the whole fried shrimp, halibut neck, and the octopus which is made in house(!), like everything else. We will be back again next time we are in Seattle.
Husband and I went in to celebrate our anniversary. We chose to have the Sushi Ya Omakase and had it paired with sake. Every dish that came out was an inspiration. So delishes. Steve, who curated the sake was definitely well informed in each selection and so passionate about it. We had an incredible and memorable dinner.
My party of three enjoyed a spectacular omakase service with sake pairings for each course. Each plate was beautiful, the flavors were clean and fresh. From the decadent halibut collar to the beautiful simple perfection of the salmon nigiri the meal was stellar. The restaurant places a strong emphasis on only serving sustainable fish and provided really interesting explanations for sustainable ingredients.
Wow, this was by far the best place I ate in Seattle. They were so kind and facilitated us by helping make room for us and our stroller. Ther service was amazing. Nevada our server was a true pleasure and so knowledgeable. The fish was amazing. It was equally appetizing as well as beautifully on the plate. We had a saki paired with each course and they were all spot on. It was so refreshing to have a woman sushi chef. It added a special touch to the meal. So happy that I was able to experience this gem. Thank you for everything.
