I absolutely love this place and I strongly recommend it to anybody and everybody that finds themselves in the Seattle area. Their clam chowder is the best I have ever had!
The clam chowder was delightful and the saffron sauce crab cakes were exquisite! The service was prompt, friendly and attentive. Our waiter, Kyle informed us that the recipe for the crab sauce was posted at their website online! Great place. We have never been disappointed!
best place ever! Seattle classic for sure. Love their fish and chips . Chowder to die for :)
Beautiful patio on the Seattle waterfront. Food was delicious, esp the grilled salmon BLT and the fish and chips.
This will now be my go to place when in Seattle. Great food and a comfortable bar. I'm not a huge salmon fan but the salmon chowder was outstanding.
Great place. Food and atmosphere is awesome. Staff is top notch. Especially Evan at the Bar.
Josh was our server and made us all feel like regulars.... excellent food as always! Love Ivars and have been going since I remember! Love the remodel! Thank you Ivars! Keep clam!
Delicious Clam Chowder. Service was incredible and they have a great happy hour menu. I had dinner twice out of my three nights visit to Seattle.
We had a fabulous time dining at Ivars last night. Merissa was amazing!! I highly recommend it! Definitely will be going back
Best tasting crab cakes and the clam chowder was so yummy!!! I will definitely go back when I visit Seattle again. The staff were great and very accommodating!
Ivar's is a legacy restaurant in Seattle's beautiful downtown and it started in 1938.
I visited on May 31st and enjoyed an almost perfect evening, complete with a quiet ambience, beautiful view of the sea and the top- notch food.
We tried three dishes and loved all three. They have got amazing king salmon specials. They are called the "copper king salmon" as they are cooked to a beautiful copper color. A must try!
I stole a star there as I thought the service could be better.. I say this because we requested an outdoor seating after starters ( something that usually is possible back in India) and I felt our host turn almost furious.
For a fine dining restaurant, they could raise the bar of customer service a little.
Overall, I would definitely go back for the food and the ambience.
Ivars has great fish and the best creamy chowder. I love getting some Ivars chowder when in Seattle. I’ve only had one disappointment in my visits and that is the calamari. I found that the breading was quite dry. That being said the squid was not rubbery.
Had a bowl of the clam chowder for $7. Amazing deal! Hot fresh and creamy. A decent amount of seafood in the serving too. Nice to eat on the go with crushed up crackers mixed in. I’d go back for some fried seafood.
Our mission was to introduce some family to the Pacific NW, Victoria, Olympic NP, Leavenworth, lakes, mountains, rivers, coastline, rain forests, waterfalls.....we shortened our time in Seattle as it continues to decline into a sewer running through a trash pits and.......the homeless camps are not G rated.
Nostalgia caused us to hit a few city highlights. For our lunch it was Ivar’s Acres of Clams on Pier 54. We enjoyed the local brews, crab cakes, rockfish tacos and fish and chips. It was best from the bar watching diners on the outside porch with the sea gulls. Ivars here or on the lake are always on our “experience” list.
We had our first ever fish and chips here, beer battered halibut. It was delicious for non fish eaters. They even split our meal for us, which was so nice because they did not have to give us two plates for our shared meal. Make sure to ask for your bread, don’t miss out on your free bread. Great view of the water
It is a crime being in Seattle and not have tried the clam chowder. While there are many places that serves and is popular for this hearty, creamy goodness, few places do it better. And Ivar's Acres of Clams is one of those places who do it well and do it better. With a heavy recommendation from a colleague who is a local, we took a long walk from out hotel to Ivar's acres of clams. After a slightly longer wait, we were seated with views of the ferry terminal. We did not waste any time and ordered our drinks and dinner.
Being my first visit to Ivar's and having not tried chowders before, I decide to order the Chowder Sampler, which comes with their original Clam Chowder, a North Western Clam Chowder and a Salmon Chowder, with a portion of oyster biscuits. My colleagues followed suit, so as to help us choose the best chowder for our main. While I loved the Ivar's original Clam Chowder, I preferred the North Western Clam Chowder a tad bit more, because of the smoky flavors. My least favorite was the Salmon chowder, which was as delicious as the other two, but the clam chowder, any day better than the Salmon.
Having tried, 3 hearty samples of chowder with the oyster biscuits, I could not have finished a main all by myself. So me and my colleague decide to order & share a portion of the Clam and Chips. The food did arrive quickly and we savored the crispy and chewy deep fried clams with chips and sauce.
These guys have a lot more on the menu and I would definitely want to come back to enjoy their feel good, warm North Western Clam Chowder on a rainy day.
This is a nice place to get seafood. Ivar's is all over the city but this location is along the waterfront and indoor seating. There is a great happy hour menu with food and drinks which is priced well. I tried the chowder sampler which featured 3 different kinds of chowder which were rich and full of flavor. The fish and chips were crisp and tasted great. The service was lacking unfortunately, it took almost 25 minutes to receive our drinks and it was because they were severely understaffed. They have a great selection of local beers
This is a historic icon of Seattle eating establishments, 5 decades, of true great Seattle sea food restaurants, I cannot count how may great times I have had at this iconic place.
All must enjoy this place.
Ivar's Acres of Clams has been closed for many months, along with most businesses along the waterfront, as the new tunnel is dug to replace the viaduct above. They used this time to remodel and expand this landmark venue on Seattle's waterfront-and did an excellent job. There are views from a variety of locations in the restaurant which has a wonderful feel that leaves you surrounded by cedar and native art but provides a light airy feel.
Our visit was for dinner on opening night of the new restaurant and we learned that a large number of staff are new--as was the menu. Old favorites and signature dishes remain complemented with more and updated choices. Our meal which began with a seafood cocktail included salad, scallops, and salmon: all were delicious. And while our server tried his best, his newness combined with the usual kinks to be worked out on opening night left some rough edges. I have no doubt that a month from now they will function as a well oiled machine and a higher rating.
The Smoked Salmon Plate I ate. It had a whipped lemon mascarpone cheese, pickled red pepper jam and served with three crostini.
Ivar’s Acres of Clams, located at the historic Pier 54 in Seattle, is a full-service restaurant and our first stop on our Seattle-Portland road trip.
On our way back to Vancouver, we stopped by Seattle near dinner time and wanted seafood. This place is right on the waterfront pier, but is huge in size and pretty busy for a late weekday night. We were sat beside the window for a nice view, but it also meant we were hidden from the wait staff and as a result had slow service. On the plus side, happy hour was anytime after 3 PM, so I guess visiting the wharf area is a mostly day time activity. We had a round of Oyster Shooters that came with six oysters over Ivar's cocktail sauce ($4, normally $6). The tasted really clean and fresh, but didn't have a strong flavour to them. Still, it was good and at a good price. Also off the happy hour menu, we had the apple wood smoked scallops ($7.50, normally $11) consisting of honey cured and apple wood smoked scallops, sweet roasted garlic crisp, baby frisee, house-smoked bacon, tossed with vanilla bean vinaigrette. The scallop was sooo good. The scallop itself was smoky and
Great Seattle Seafood. The clam chowder is amazing, and the bacon-wrapped Halibut was exceptional.
Good seafood and chips hot and fresh. Fun to eat out side just watch out for the gulls lol
Non-fish eater. Again, I can't eat fish, but the people with me loved this place. I had a great meal too, but the awesome bonus is that you can eat here then visit Ye Olde Curiosity Shop next door. Which is the coolest and craziest store in seattle. It's like a museum of oddities, totally worth it.
Great views of harbor, great service, wonderfully fresh seafood. A little pricey but worth it!
Acres of seafood options at Acres of Clams!. Last month after hitting the Seattle Art Museum it was Steve's goal to get fish and chips at Ivar's Acres of Clams. Apparently it is a summer tradition for many folks in the area to get fish & chips. I was interested to give the place a try!
Steve and his friend said that Ivar's was more inexpensive but our meal was about the average for a nicer dinner cost wise. Perhaps we went to the wrong area and should have went to Ivar's Fish Bar which is at the same location.
Whatever the case may be we still enjoyed our meal. We had a nice view of the pier and could see a ferry go back and forth and look at the nearby anchored fire boats. It has really a nice atmosphere!
Now I only have had fish & chips a handful of times and each time I like them better. Probably because we go to a better restaurant each time and the quality gets better each time.
I don't know where the best fish & chips may be in Seattle but I really enjoyed the meal here! The fish sticks were delicious and so fresh! Ahem, everytime I review fish & chips I always say they were the best I have had but at the current time these are the best fish & chips I have had.
We did not want dessert but our friend's son wanted something sweet but then he decided he did not want the cheesecake he ordered so it was up to Steve and myself to eat it. It too was pretty good!
I would definitely go back to this Ivar's location and get the fish & chips again as well as explore some of their other menu options!
Service was wonderful. Food was amazing. The view was beautiful.
Recommend this restaurant. We had a fairly large group and got great service in this busy restaurant. The waiter took time to answer all our questions and to make sure our food was just right. From halibut to crab legs, the food was delicious!
Wish we had gone back here the second night rather than to Crab Pot which had mediocre food and bad service for about the same price.
Great food!!! The customer service is definitely lacking though. The hostess never smiled and the waiters weren't friendly..
Amazing Views and Amazing Food!. I love to visit here every time I go to Seattle. This my friends, is the real deal, not the fish bar. We love watching the Seattle to Bainbridge ferry come in and out. We love the Salmon which is juicy and tender. The Chowder is amazing! The hamburger is very good and so are the fries. We love this amazing and noteworthy restaurant.
Smoked salmon starter. Dunginess crab and halibut salmon scallop and prawn plate. All incredible with the local beers a must in Seattle.
I can't say enough good things about Ivar's on Pier 54 to my friends and family! My husband and I had the fried calamari appetizer, and it was hands down the best calamari we've ever had! So tender and perfectly seasoned! My fish and chips were perfect as well, and my husband loved his seafood sampler of sorts (I can't remember the name of it). I will be back next time I'm in Seattle!
Good calamari, good chowder, good fish N chips. Enuff said
Salmon, salmon, salmon. I live on the Gulf Coast of Florida. I can get shrimp and oysters at home. The seafood I look forward to in Seattle is fresh, wild caught salmon. Iver's never disappoints me in that regard. I had King salmon and the northwest chowder as well which was good with clams, fish, salmon bits. Spouse had seafood platter which was good and reports his clam chowder was just "o.k.". Spouse was irritated with the waitress up selling items and being unavailable when he was looking for check, dining room was not terribly busy; service was o.k.
Getting out of the rain. I was quite surprized at the size of this restaurant! It's deceiving from the front. We stopped here for lunch after taking an Argosy Harbor Cruise.
My mom & I both got their lunch combo which was a great deal at $13.50.
I had chowder and a crab cake slider. I was not expecting the slider to be almost a full sized crab cake on a full bun. I ended up leaving most of the bun and eating the crab cake and other contents!
My mom had the Salad which looked amazing with cranberries and slivered almonds mixed in.
Service was mediocre, but the food saved it.
Pretty darn good. Anybody expecting an amazing world-class meal from a large waterfront establishment in a tourist area is probably being naive. Having said that, we recently visited Ivar's Acres of Clams and found that it exceeded our expectations. Service was good, food was very good, portions were generous, good night out with an amazing waterside table!
We give this place 8 out of 10 and would definitely return.
Loud, crowded, delicious seafood in Seattle.. Stumbled upon Ivar's walking around town. Looked good, so we gave it a shot. Despite going at mid-day, it was packed. Lots of families with loud kids--not a place for a date. Menu was full of fresh seafood. I had a cup of the red Ivar's Famous Clam Chowder. It was fresh and tasty. My wife had the Dungeness Crab Cake Sandwich. It was humongous, hot, and tasty with tons of French fries. Enough food for two people. I had the Wild Alaska Lingcod. It was light, flaky, and delicious. We both enjoyed a glass of Washington pinot gris. No dessert. This would be a fun place for a large group.
Wonderful meal!. Our party of 8 had a wonderful dinner here on Saturday night. We started with oysters, really delicious and fresh! Several in our party had chowder, clam and salmon as well as salads. For entrees we had fish & chips, sole with a citrus sauce (delish!) and lobster (perfectly prepared). We ended the evening with creme brulee; it too was wonderful! Thank you for a lovely meal Ivar's, we'll be back soon!
Always a Seattle Tradition. My mom, myself and her best friend from Alabama spent several days visiting downtown Seattle. Needless to say, you have to go to Ivars. We had lunch at the walk up side. Our friend from Alabama absolutely loved the fried Oysters and fries. So much so that when we had a sit down dinner in the restaurant, she was disappointed that they weren't made the same way inside. She even asked if she could go out, buy them outside and bring them into the restaurant. It was her birthday and I asked Sergio, our server, it there was any way the Oysters could be done as close to the fast food version. He was wonderful and the Oysters were fried for her dinner meal. She ate all of them and said they were good but not as good as the fast food version. I think she was just disappointed they weren't exactly the same and only $8. Either way my mom and I loved our meals and the view and had a wonderful time. Ivars is still worth going to eat.
We arrived in Seattle with only a little time before moving on to San Juan Island's Friday Harbor, so we hoped we chose well for the evenings dining... Boy did we!!!
We arrived at Ivar's at 4:55pm, only minutes before the "Beat the Tide" special was up... for about $20, you could choose Salmon, Steak & Shrimp or a couple of other choices. In our party, we had one Salmon and 3 Steak & Shrimp while Victor and Patrick had fish & chips and alfredo pasta.
It came with choice of Salad or Clam Chowder (full of clam), the main couse and dessert. All were tasty and well worth the special price (which only runs from 3 to 5 each day).
We had a great meal for about $100 for all 6 of us.
Maybe a bit pricey?. Visited, on vacation. Food very good, service excellent, wonderful setting. But the price seemed to me a little high. Clam chowder for example very good, plenty of clam, not too much potato, but still not quite the depth of flavor I expected. But I still recommend it, great view of harbor.
Good in early May. I was a little afraid to go to this touristy place but was pleasantly surprised. I had oysters on the half shell and red claim chowder for the first time which was ok but I think I prefer white. Companion had a cioppino-like seafood in broth dish but it was too spicy for her. The darling waiter whisked it away and came back after having the kitchen add some fish/chicken broth to tone it down, and she liked it then. The waiter was perfectly happy to do whatever he needed to make us happy. It was our first day in Seattle and they happened to half half price bottles of some wines so we got a bottle of Tattinger and did it up right. Really enjoyed this place.
Good solid seafood restaurant to take visitors from out of town. Only thing was getting a view table seemed to be an "issue" even when we had the run of the place well after the dinner rush. Had to be overly insistent when it seemed unnecessary given the time and lack of patrons.
Brunch for $25 a deal. Just started a new buffet brunch for football season....$25 all you can eat. Just about everything on the lunch menu was on the buffet and many breakfast items, sweets and a pasta bar. Had fresh oysters being shucked right on the buffet. Easily a good deal if you can down some oysters and crab legs.
Food is okay, depending on what you get. The view on the other hand is phenomenal. What a treat to sit and watch the ferries and the sea lions.
Yummy!. I go there every time I go to Seattle, they give you a lot of food at a great price, and is very cool to sit there on the water.
Greatest seafood happy hour ever. Show up for happy hour and just order all kinds of appetisers. Awesome oysters, clams, clam chowder, and have a redhook or a black butte porter. mmmmm I love Ivars
Kitschy, but still good. I was very glad to see it wasn't just full of tourists. It seemed like everyone was eating there, businessmen, tourists, families. The food is old-school, but very fresh.
Great happy hour 3- close! Drinks are around six bucks, and appetizers are 3-6 dollars, not bad at all. We went before a Mariners game and had a good time
Tourist trap with SUPER happy hour. Yes, it is a tourist trap, but their summer weekday happy hour is from 3PM to closing. You can get a huge pile of steamed clams or mussels in tasty broth for $6. Or six oyster shots for the same price. Manny's on tap for $3. A non-offensive and generous pour of house wine for the same price. You can walk out stuffed and happy for under $20 with tip.
We've been here a few times now and love it! I will say that we are not locals, but the food has been well prepared and delicious, the service has been great and the atmosphere is cool. They have what we consider to be the best chowder!
First, you can order the simpler dishes from the outside stand. Will probably get the food faster and there is covered seating nearby and there are seats all the way out to the pier though seagulls have laid their waste all over them hahah.
The restaurant inside is quite nice and has a good view.
The service was fantastic and the food was mostly great.
Clam Chowder was good. Manila clam order had a few that were missing meat.
Halibut fish and chips were great. The crab and shrimp pasta were light on flavor. Not much crab, shrimp, or havarty taste. May need stronger or more cheese, and or crush some shrimp heads for the flavor.
My wife and I visited Ivar's anticipating an enjoyable seafood meal. That is exactly what we got!
We started with the Penn Cove Mussels, with flavor that was well worth it.
We then had Fish and Chips, with mine Cod and my wife's Halibut. Both were as tasty as we had hoped they'd be.
The service was good, and the outside seating provided a very pleasant ambiance.
I recommend Ivar's to anyone looking for quality Seafood fare.
Everything was great about this place, the food tasted fresh and delicious, the service was prompt, waiter Marquis took care of all our requests - I enjoyed the meal and would love to come back again. Even the usually boring salmon tasted great. There is a colony of seagulls waiting outside the restaurant for all the food you can share.
Only issue was a waiting line - took us about half an hour to get seated.
had an awesome time here! all of our food was delicious and the atmosphere is superb; we sat outside on the water. it was a hot day but the breeze was fantastic. the crab and shrimp pasta was perfect. the crab dip was also amazing i just wish there had been more lol
This place was introduced to me for their clam chowder and their fish and chips. They have 2 types of service, a quick serve outside and full service indoors. The quick service have an indoor seating area in the gazebo and outdoor seating along the bay. The full service seating area has a lot of large booths and an overview of the bay. If you’re just looking for just chowder and fish and chips, order at the quick service area. The full service is great for large parties, dinners and special events.
Fish and chips - 4/5
I got the 5 piece cod fish and chips. The batter was pretty good, the batter didn’t separate and it was crispy. However, the fish is pretty small. The tartar sauce wasn’t that amazing and the fries are a bit soggy and nothing worth noting. They also have their own packaged ketchup. Personally I like seeing the Heinz logo brand for my ketchup even if they are using Heinz ketchup.
Clam chowder - 5/5
The clam chowder is creamy, and has a lot of flavor. They used chopped clams and potatoes. However they use saltine crackers instead of oyster crackers.
You gotta be okay with them damn seagulls! Otherwise, find a spot to sit inside the gazebo. This spot will bring you memories and nostalgia if you’re from Seattle. I remember this Ivar’s from being a teen and enjoying walking the pier. This is actually still one of the more affordable spots to eat if you go to the pier! I love being on the water no matter what! Adorable! Easy to find. Good value for you money! Free water. Must tri is the 3 piece true cod Cajun. The best Tartar sauce ever. Must try!
Ivar’s top notch seafood restaurant on the wharf in Seattle.
Salmon - Coho & Sockeye were awesome along with the vegetables and bread (ask for the bread separately - it is free).
Both wine & beer completed the meals.
Watching the ferries, ships & people were great. And the birds - gulls, rule the outside fence.
Outdoor seating in the harbour is available, but not open.
Really nice space for over 200 people to sit no issues.
Televisions in the bar.
My review is a bit belated but nonetheless deserved. This was the best meal I had on my entire trip to Seattle and that’s saying something. I still think about the food and the drink to this day.
I highly recommend the Pineapple Rum Old Fashioned and the fried calamari. The combination of the two is fantastic. My son had the Halibut and enjoyed it.
Fun restaurant! The food was all absolutely delicious and the atmosphere was great. They had incredible views into the water. Grilled Alaska Salmon, Clam Chowder, Calamari, and Crab were our favorites. Would recommend this location over others in the area. We'll definitely be back again! The parking on the entire strip is rough as there is so much construction, but eventually it'll be fantastic again.
It's been over 30 years since I've been to Seattle. The first time was as a teenager. One of the reasons that family vacation stood out to me was due to the delicious clam chowder at Ivar's. The minute I got to my hotel in downtown Seattle I headed straight to the Pier to enjoy the first of many bowls of chowder I had during my stay. It was just as good as it was when I was a kid. Make sure to try Ivar's out if you get the chance! A Seattle must try.
Such amazing food...I highly recommend the red chowder, Alaskan Cod & Chips were great, and the coleslaw was so good... great view of the pier.
Nice ambience, good service.
The chowder is well balanced and has very rich flavor. The mussels are really fresh. The fried clams however is a downer, too much breading and too salty, we barely touched it.
Our waiter was fantastic, and great fun. The fish was beautiful! However, some of the mussels didn't open. Big serving with an amazing view.
Very nice and spacious restaurant by the pier. Lots of seating. Highlight is the Crab Cioppino! It’s awesome. I cleaned up the whole plate. You know they mean business when they provide a bib with your meal.
