The only thing difficult here was to decide what to order. Albacore is my go-to for an appetizer, and it was delicious. I ordered the sashimi dinner and loved everything except the red Tuna. Portion size of the salad was very generous. Not pictured is the Miso soup, standard and tasty. Great dining experience, food was wonderful, and we will definitely return.
A perfectly comfortable yet classy place to have the most fresh sushi. Service is quick and impeccable. The sushi chefs, if you sit at the sushi bar, will recommend the freshest catches. The live scallop was a pure delight! The bluefin Toro was like butter.
This was a gift from friends. We normally don't go here. We had an excellent meal and drinks. People were lined up at the door at opening time. Fortunately, we had a reservation. I had mixed tempura which was good. Had interesting cold sake in these wooden boxes. It was good but a bit pricey.
Great low key sushi spot! Friendly staff , energetic vibe but still mellow. The sushi chefs know what they are doing! It's hard to find fresh seafood so I appreciate that my seafood was fresh and presented clean and beautiful. First time for but will definitely be back. Keep up the good work and happy friendly atmosphere / delicious fresh seafood!! Fresh being the key!! Chef Sunny
Overall: A+ only one trip up...the poke bowl
First pic is the poke. It was just a mess in flavor. Big miss. BUT the rest was amazing.
Sashimi plate, toro tuna sashimi, chopped toro and rainbow roll. Everything was very fresh and clean flavor. Will definitely be going back.
Koi is my go-to sushi spot. I've been dining here since 1995 - 27 years! They've been around since 1980. Can't believe I missed out on 15 years of this fantastic restaurant. Family owned and operated. Fresh fish, not frozen. Scratch made sauces. Best sushi chefs around. Don't know what I love more - the food or the staff.
Fresh, flavorful and fast. This was our first time visiting Koi, although we've lived nearby for most of our lives. I can see why there's always a line coming out of this restaurant during the weekends. The soft shell crab and shrimp tempura and vegetables are some of the best I've ever eaten. The batter is wonderfully light and crispy without the grease. I found the bluefin toro melted in your mouth and was a favorite. The salmon was perfect. The only complaint I have is on the poke, which is how I feel about almost every one I've tried that isn't Hawaiian. I thought it was a tad on the bland side, but still rather good. I would go back to this restaurant time and time again for sushi.
Although this was my first time here, this was my guest's go-to Japanese Cuisine. The restaurant was packed but we were lucky to get a booth fairly quickly.
Food:
Sashimi Dinner plate was filled with fresh cuts of tuna, salmon, yellowtail, whitefish, and clam. It also came with a bowl of miso soup, salad, and rice. This was more than plenty to fill me.
Teriyaki Salmon plate was delicious! Just the perfect amount of rice, salmon, and veggies. This meal also came with a bowl of rice, miso soup, and salad.
Appetizers:
Baked Mussels was delicious! The sauce was creamy and abundant. Personally, it was a little on the salty side for me, but the extra sauce made for a great dip for the fried calamari we ordered.
Fried Calamari was lightly coated in tempura batter and deep fried to perfection! It was the best fried calamari I've ever had.
Chawanmushi was quite delicious! This had to be ordered first since it takes about 10-15 minutes to make, but so worth the wait for!
If you want to enjoy an authentic Japanese sushi experience while in the luxury of California, go here!! Definitely opt for the bar seat for the best experience of Japan. I thought I was in Japan again until I stepped outside and felt the SoCal sea breeze. Fresh fish, excellent sushi chefs, and true Japanese hospitality.
This is my favorite sushi place...for more than 15 years. Great food and unpretentious. What a place for locals is all about.
A unique spot for dining experience.
Great service & food! However, I ordered chicken teriyaki and received a poached piece of chicken. I had it sent back and ordered salmon, which was more appetizing.
The service was good. The food was fresh but the restaurant ran out of some premium stuff on the menu like “giant clam”.
The furniture 🪑 at this place could use an upgrade. Ok for casual eating but not for an anniversary 😅.
Staff is the star. Found to be warm and friendly. Nice vibe. Sushi was fresh, but heavy on sauces (if that’s your preference). Fav dish was the blue fin carpaccio. Dates decor…lean into the beach vibe or traditional.
This was a special occasion and we wanted to try someplace new. And, we're very glad we did! Incredibly busy, and we learned why. Five stars in food, service and atmosphere! We'll definitely be back!
Outstanding experience. The chef created something special for us. It was like a piece of art. So fresh and tasty. This is a popular place, so get there early or be prepared to wait. But I promise you, it's worth it.
Best Japanese food I’ve ever had! Fresh ingredients and incredible service. Highly recommend.
Master Sushi Chef, Daigo is the best!!! Love the fresh sashimi and sushi here!!!
