Best sushi, best Ramen!!! This place was outstanding from service to food ... the hostess was super friendly and welcoming upon walking in. Our waitress was very polite and helpful when we had questions on some sushi rolls. She got our drinks fast and took our order as soon as she noticed we were ready. Very polite and friendly. Very knowledgable as well. Highly recommend for the whole family or yourself/couple!!

It's Sushi in the Desert! So, get real about your expectations a bit, this isn't the coast of Japan or Nobu in Los Angeles, so my ratings are based upon the context of 'It's Sushi in the Desert!' . And for that, Sakanas is one of the best options in Phoenix. Relative to value for the money that is. You could go to the W or Roka Akor here in town and pay 2 or 3 times the cost, but it won't taste 2 or 3 times better or fresher. Now the atmosphere at those places may be 2x better, so if you're going to propose to your fiance or something, Sakanas in the grocery store strip mall isn't going to win any awards for atmosphere, it's small and because it's fresh and good, tends to get packed and they don't take reservations, so plan on waiting a bit during busy times. The food seems to be very fresh for sashimi and sushi, the tempura is hot and crispy and the rolls are solid with a good number of options. 5 people who share plenty of food will run about 160 with tip and drinks. My suggestion is to start with garlic parmesean edamame, then get the chef's plate sashimi, a variety tempura plate, then get however many rolls you want for your group. The sashimi plate pictured is missing some of the pieces we ate, but you'll get the idea, generous sized portions with tasty Toro and the usual tuna options and salmon. The rolls are rolls, so I judge sushi places on the sashimi freshness and then whether the portions are generous. So, other than if you really need a great atmosphere, this is a solid choice for good quality and value, a good place for a date night or family meal.
Absolutely without a doubt the BEST sushi I have ever had!! Went here last night with 9 others. We had a blast and they were SO accommodating even though we came in about 45 minutes before closing. Ate like kings and queens and very affordable for the quality and the amount of food!
This sushi is very good! Las Vegas roll was top notch shrimp tempura had a nice little spice all in all this joint is easily a giro sushi spot!
Best sushi in the Scottsdale area for sure!!!! Fish is super fresh and the yellowtail is the best. They do good dine in and takeout. And great lunch specials!
My only qualm is their soft shell crab roll has verrrrry little soft shell crab and a LOT of fake crab.
Been going here for years. Best in Scottsdale. It's funny I pretty much judge other places off the rolls here and the portions of their sashimi. I'm always disappointed with THOSE places. Checkout their website. It's well done and to the point. Go through the menu and yes I must mention they have a SECRET menu! I can't recommend this place more. This sushi restaurant has a no- frills exterior and is located in a strip mall, but don’t let that fool you. The quality of the sushi and the portion size are the best in the valley in my opinion. On Thursday and Friday, they have a lunch special that is beyond compare. For around $16, you can get a special with 6 large pieces of sushi, a role, 2 pieces of tempura, salad, and soup.
Amazing sushi and sashimi! If you appreciate this artistic culinary miracle, then this place you must visit… it’s as close to authentic as I’ve ever gotten outside of Japan….great slices, fresh seafood, amazing presentation, and awesome service.
The food was good and very reasonable. Our server was very attentive and friendly. We would dine here again while visiting in Scottsdale.
I had the choice between this place and one of the "happening spots" a Scottsdale since we had already gone to the "happening" spot and I wasn't highly impressed as I dine out for the food not to be "seen"
We came on a Wednesday night and there was a little wait but we ordered a glass of wine from the bar.
We were seated about 12 mins later.
I was very impressed with the special of the evening the Sashimi platter which was the special for the night for about $50. Everything was very fresh. The service was good and the wine was good.
I enjoyed Watching the chef prepare our platter as well.
Of the sushi spots I've been to in AZ so far this is my favorite.

Good portions of rolls, calamari were chewy and not good. Server was not that attentive to clearing plates and taking care of tables needs.
Absolutely amazing sushi and the prices are unbeatable for the quality you’re getting. The garlic Parmesan edamame is to die for.
I went to Sakana restaurant last Sunday around 12 p.m. there was no wait time and they delivered the food in a timely manner. First of all the waitress was very helpful with instructing me on where I could seat. She was insightful about the menu and how I could customize the Spicy Tokyo Style Miso Shoyu Ramen dish to how I wanted. I was given the house miso as courtesy, giving a quick taste of what was to come. The ramen dish was flavorful but I will say it lacks flavor compared to other restaurants. The Gyoza Pan Fried Pork Dumplin did not have a nice sear like it should but were indeed very delicious. For the price it's a decent restaurant for a quick bite when your craving ramen.
My first time here for lunch and I can't get over how delicious everything was! And you can not beat those prices. It's the perfect lunch spot for good sushi. And the miso is on point. Definitely going back soon!!
