Review Diego Pops - Scottsdale

Stopped for dinner during the week. The selection of custom margaritas was wide and the ones we tried were excellent. The same is true for the food. Fresh and interesting ingredients, friendly staff and great environment!

Thanks to some recommendations I found on Eat Gluten Free AZ on Instagram, we stopped at Diego Pops near our hotel in Old Town Scottsdale for happy hour where all apps and margaritas are half off. They have a marked gluten free menu which is important to me as a Celiac. I was told that their fryer is dedicated but flour tortillas are stored near it, so to avoid potential cross contamination, avoid the fried foods. After being put on a 15 minute wait list, we were seated outside. The weather was fantastic so it was very comfortable in the outdoor dining area next to the bar. On the table are 6 different sauces. Try them all - my favs were the pink one and the light green serrano one. We got a frozen house blue raspberry margarita, 2 Diego (house) margaritas, a cheese quesadilla (not GF, but my husband loved it), elote (great), a bowl of tortilla soup (12/10 it was delicious), a corn cheese dip (fine) with tortillas rather than chips to avoid potential gluten cross contamination, and a pineapple pork bowl with coconut rice (not a fan.) Between ordering our drinks and when our food came out, it was like maybe 40 minutes. We didn't mind because the weather was good and we were chatting and had our drinks, but our waitress kept updating us that she was on the kitchen to bring out our stuff. We were like, "it's fine." She came out 2 more times and said the kitchen had lost our ticket. Whatever, we were in no rush. Stuff happens. She was super apologetic even though we didn't complain and the manager came over and gave us vouchers for 6 free tacos and comped our entire meal!!! We told them it wasn't necessary and we could pay but the waitress said it was thanks for being so nice and understanding. That made me feel sad that they clearly deal with a lot of rude, unreasonable people. It wasn't necessary to comp our meal or give us free taco vouchers. We did tip her in cash an amount that would have been 1/3 of the original bill. Please don't go expecting free food but if you're in Scottsdale, please go check out the food at Diego Pops and get the tortilla soup for sure.

A pretty good place unique Mexican fare. Definitely nothing similar to the plethora of other traditional Mexican restaurants you’ll find in this area. The Brussel sprout nachos is our favorite order when we come here! Lots of good options for different diets too. Always trying different drinks here, place is cute & staff is friendly & attentive for a place that gets pretty packed sometimes

Food is great and the prices are good, but the service is fantastic. Our food was out within 5 minutes of order (two taco bowls and 3 tacos). We were impressed by the quality of the food and the speed! We highly recommend the taco bowls with coconut rice and the corn queso with chips.

This place was so amazing, the vibes were awesome. Flet like a college/ young professional setting. The food was great, a lot of good flavors and the drinks were amazing too. Trust me, I will be back (Arnold voice)

Food was good, $4 for a tiny thing of guacamole that ended up being pretty bland was a little laughable. But over all it was alright. They had fans that put out mist that was refreshing.

Good area for a restaurant, you can walk around after! Food was delicious. Loved the Brussels sprout nachos!! Aesthetic decor. Quick service.

Cool mexican joint in the heart of Oldtown. As it was my first time in Arizona, we found this place just by roaming around. We went on a Friday evening and even though the wait time was an hour, we decided to check it out as it was vibin'. You have the option for the bar or can sit outside in the patio which we did. We ordered margaritas, tacos and brussel sprout nachos. The nachos were interesting but it worked and tasted good! Our server wasn't the most pleasant which is the only reason it doesn't get a 5 star. Even so, I would recommend this place to others.

Food was delicious Miyra was efficient and recommended her favorites. Fast service and easy parking at 4 pm for Happy Hour.

Delicious food and very nice staff! We had a special menu for our large bachelorette party and it was amazing. They were very accommodating with vegan options! Highly recommend this place- it’s so fun.

Diego Pops definitely worth the stop if you're in town. We had a bachelorette party so it was perfect for photos. It is definitely an "instagrammable" spot. The portions were large. I ordered a steak bowl and it was quite filling. They had very friendly servers.

Super busy and currently filled with all bachelorette parties! There wasn’t a waitlist at the time we went but we had about a 90 minute wait after stopping by to put our names in. Great spot, super fun, delicious drinks, and pretty good food. Loved the brussel sprout nachos, street corn queso, and California burrito. So so good. The prickly pear was delicious and I definitely recommend. Now for my standard COVID comments as of May 2023. No one in the area really wears masks. So the interior is clean and wasn’t super overwhelming even when crowded.

Recommended by locals, this place definitely made Scottsdale memorable. Beef quesadilla was cooked to perfection with sauces that tingle the senses in an umami kind of way. Loved the coconut rum guava drink and had a lovely time with the very hospitable staff. The vibe was chill and held in high regard by everyone for good reason! Come try! Come try!

Not bad, pork tacos are good with pineapple chopped pieces, and carne asada tacos had good flavor. But the pastor was greasy not much flavor, price-wise expensive 2 menchiladas and 6 tacos 58$ i would come again for specials or taco tuesday.

1/16/23: Came back again with friends and we all enjoyed the quality service, food and vibe in the daytime. Quality sauces as well. Highly recommended. If you need parking there’s an underground parking lot nearby. 7/21: Great burrito and enviorment. I love the neon lightings and feelings you get at night here.

Excellent food. Chips and salsa, great salsa. Had the Bean & Cheese Burritto and added the grilled chicken and sweet corn. Was awesome! Highly recommend Diego Pops. They could turn down the music volume just a bit so you could have conversations. Would be nice.

The atmosphere is great, the decor is amazing and just a fun place to go. The service was good and our waitress wa very tentative. I was not impressed by the food. I got the street corn which was good but when I think of street corn it's more grilled and has charcoal marks. It look like they just boiled it and grilled the bottom. Flavor was good but not what I wa expecting. I also got the poke bowl which was, meh. I woul not get it again or recommend it. Normally with poke bowls you get a good amount of tuna with a nice amount of rice and then ingredients mixed in.. it was the opposite for me. Very little Tina, lacked flavor and had a TON of jicama in it with some avocado, little bit of rice and butter lettuce leafs in it. Idk, want appealing or satisfying at all.. I should have just got the tacos but what can yah do. I will always give it another shot, which I plan on but disappointed for my first time.

It’s a pretty decent little go-to spot for me as a local. Fun vibe, good nachos and tacos (I like the green chili chicken and the braised short rib). Bowl versions of the tacos are good too. Recommend the Margaritas too - Prickly pear or regular.

We have family in from out of town and I wanted to take them to Old Town. This place had terrible service and the food was just as bad. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

I just left your establishment in Scottsdale with my entire meal in a bag. I waited for over 45 minutes for my food that never ever came. When I finally asked for it to be taken off my check bc I was leaving it appeared cold and didn’t have everything I ordered. The bartender, who took 20 minutes to get one drink, still charged me full price for my meal. I asked to see the manger but he never came! This was the worst experience I’ve ever had!! Monica

One of the gems of Old Town Scottsdale! Fun vibes and amazing food and drinks. They've got a great happy hour and perfect location. Definitely recommend!

People, you're in the service industry. Be pleasant. A smile would be nice. Way to kill the vibe. Oh, and hot foods are supposed to be HOT, not barely room temperature. The cheese on our meals wasn't even fully melted. Never again. My dinner partner didn't feel too well after eating his "room temp" meal.... but he ended up paying the check for picking this place! Losing! �

Cool vibe and our waitress was great. Loved the quacamole, fried plantains and tacos were pretty good. Margaritas were on point. Probably not a first choice destination but I'd go back.

Amazing Vegan Plaintain Tacos (remove cheese, sub black beans) and margaritas are the best in the area! Make sure to ask for John Diego! He’s the best there!

Went in on a Saturday night with a group of 8 and had a wonderful server. She was attentive and worked really hard. The Brussel sprout nachos are the best!

This was the best food I had during my entire stay in Scottsdale. The food was extremely tasty and very affordable. Great atmosphere too. I'm planning to stop by next time in town.

Went yesterday for Taco Tuesday. The service was slow, tacos were cold and they ran out of flour tortillas. It was my first experience at this place and last. They also don't have any Taco Tuesday specials like every place in Scottsdale. I don't recommended.

Can't get this on the East Coast. Stumbled upon it and had great food in a cool atmosphere. Will visit everytime I'm back in Scottsdale

The prickly pear margarita and brussel sprout nachos are amazing!

Loved their concept of Taco Monday's. Definitely not your typical tacos; tried their braised green chile chicken($2) and grilled salmon tacos ($3) and they were absolutely delicious. They are not those small tacos some places give you. Even their app with guacamole and salsa is not skimpy.

chill atmosphere, great food and delicious cocktails! I recommend the skirt steak bowl drizzled with habanero oil.

If u can't make a simple exception 4 a customer with an injury or handicap then u shuldnt be in the service industry, ur here 2 serve us, n comfortably, I've wanted 2 try this place bcuz the food sounded good but my family n friend's won't be eating here especially since I'm disabled, I surely wuldnt want 2 inconvenience anyone if I rode my handicapped scooter in....😕
