Shaner's Pizzeria

This was my first visit to Shaner’s—a clean, comfortable, welcoming, unassuming pizza/sandwich shop on the corner of the Gulf-gate area plaza. (I hope the portion of the plaza’s pavement that contained several big potholes gets repaired soon.) Dear Husband and I shared (with leftovers) a large “Shane’s Favorite” thin-crust pizza, and a delicious small (but happily big-enough-for-2 hungry adults) Greek salad. We forgot to ask for the dressing on the side as we usually do, so it came too wet and a bit salty for my taste, but DH enjoyed it as-is. We each enjoyed a deliciously cold beer. I was hesitating about which type to order, as I don’t often drink beer. The waitress whose name might’ve been Lisa, upon noticing my hesitation, said she’d be right back. In a flash, she returned offering me a sample glass of the very Mango beer I was considering! I was so impressed at her thoughtful gesture and, after sampling, ordered it. Part of my judgment of restaurants is how clean the bathrooms and eating areas are. Each of the 2 private unisex restrooms here were immaculate and well-stocked. In addition, amusing and interesting framed sports-related artwork hangs on the walls. The friendly owner briefly visited our table to see how we were enjoying our selections, and chatted a bit as I saw him doing at others’ tables. Later, I noticed him eating what might have been a cheesesteak sub at the clean, attractively decorated bar. We liked Shaner’s very much and look forward to returning.
