Just ordered your famous Italian sub for my husband and he is absolutely raving! Wow! So happy we found you!

Low key, excellent sandwiches and salads, and reasonable pricing. A nice reprieve that feels familiar even when it's your first time. Lots of regulars with many years of attendance.

Our server was fabulous. We would come again just to have her serve us again. The good was great also.

Have to thank "the ex" for introducing me to this go-to institution, I was unaware of it until we met. Now I've been coming here for 25 years. They've been here since 1958.
And in that quarter century nothing has changed except a few faces and the prices. The service is wonderful and friendly, very diner-like where, even if you've never been in before, you're treated like a welcome friend.
And unlike most lunch-only places that close at 2:30, they stay open until 4 pm.
The biggest - only - problem I have is the menu. There are so many things to choose from. And many of the sandwiches have cool names, too. Alexander the Great, Taj Mahal, Balkan Express and many others. At this point, I've had most of the menu and there is not a thing on it I wouldn't have again.
Today, it the muffuletta.
Because it's on Main Street, parking can be difficult unless you use the parking garage across the street. Of course, most of their clientele are walking in from the surrounding office buildings and government offices. It's a great location.
All the photos on the walls were left by the original owners and their son - all circus performers - and show many circus people they knew. Check out the pics, meander through the menu. It's worth the time to dawdle.

Brings back fond memories of coming with my dad for a French Dip with my dad some 50 years ago.. food was even better than it was back, then definitely a place to come to see an original Sarasota sandwich shop!!

Stopped read menu on street & saw gazpacho. Went & pleasant surprise. There was a small bar, a pizza open kitchen, and a series of booths. A larger kichen o n the side prepared main dishes. Met at door and lead to seat. Waitress came right away. Took order for bowl of gazpacho & pita bread & iced tea. Pita was toasted, ice tea was fresh brewed and gazpacho was delicious!! When I got ready to leave the waitness brought me a "to go cup" because she could see I hadn't finished mine. I will most definitely return. I go to the movies across the street then I will go for a snack.

The food was good, but in my honest opinion, just subpar. You can definitely make sandwiches like this at home, but prices are cheap and you get what you pay for. We got the Italian sandwich and the Sarasotan wrap. I would recommend if you work in the area, but don’t go out of your way to come here.

I love this place it reminds me of the 1970s -80s and gives you that very northern and intimate diner setting. The food is good and again reminds me of a Northern type facility. The Mayan and Aztec are my go to’s and the cottage cheese is always tasting fresh when I get it. This place is sort of a hidden gem if you ask me! The service is always fantastic and the only complaint I ever had was the hours. Sometimes I just miss them by a small time window. But regaurdless this is one of my absolute favorite sandwich shops alongside Noreen’s deli in Bradenton or just a plain ol’ pub sub

Really impressed with this restaurant. Stopped in for lunch. The atmosphere is really unique and comfortable for a sandwich shop. Dine in booths and a bar. Both the famous Italian sandwich and the chocolate chip cookie were excellent. The sandwich was hot on a nice crispy bread and the cookie was homemade prefectly thin and delicious. I am not downtown for lunch very often, but I will come back here any time I can.
