Mel's Fish & Chips

Great portions, quick pickup order. Delicious fish and chips. My only complaint is the coleslaw. If you want a container of wet, tasteless chopped cabbage, then this coleslaw is for you. I am glad it comes with the fish and chips and I didn't make the mistake of ordering a side of it. Uneventful and boring coleslaw.

I feel like it just used to be... bigger. While not TERRIBLY overpriced at 7 bucks, the side of chicken strips was pretty miniature in both quantity (3 or 4/order?) and size per piece. Maybe I came at the end of the day but the vibes at the counter were somewhat grumpy, and the available table outside was still dirty and not available long enough to finish the food before it was taken in for closing. Despite all of this, I have to say it was VERY VERY tasty. And after all, it's charm IS that it's a hole-in-the-wall fried food joint that's been around for a long time, so it's kinda supposed to be that way I guess. At least they know what they're doing with the food, which did not disappoint. And did I mention it was run by all women? Also pretty cool.

Found this little hole in the wall, and so glad we did! Though there was barely enough room to turn around inside,and prices seemed kind of high, portions were generous, and food was good! We had fish, chicken strips, chips and onion rings. The service was so-so. Despite the rudeness we encountered from one of the girls working there, we plan to return again. They served us the best tempura battered onion rings that we have found anywhere in a very long time!

Wow what can't I say I love small places because they usually have the best food and yes the fish was cooked to perfection fries was excellent and those fried pickles oh man great spot. Oh and the size of the fish was big I got a 2 piece and would have been full with a 1 piece but yes I stuffed myself because it was so goooood. Definitely coming back here.

6/18/23 We just found this HIDDEN GEM of a place on Hopper Ave in Santa Rosa!! It is the BEST seafood I have ever had. Seriously, they cook the best fried oysters in the country!!! All of their seafood is fresh, tasty, cooked to perfection, never tastes greasy or oily, even the fries are perfectly hot, crispy, and golden brown, never ever soggy. I feel badly that they're located off the beaten path, and so many people have probably never heard of them. The owner is super nice and always very friendly and accommodating, with very fast service too! They are in a small location with just a few tables, so takeout is best. I have NEVER had such huge, cooked-to-perfection, non-greasy/oily fried oysters anywhere else in California or Maine, and I used to work right across the street from an oyster restaurant in Portland, ME's waterfront! Mel's Fish & Chips is truly a hidden gem and their prices are very reasonable also. You just can't beat the quality of their seafood!! In my humble opinion.

Great food and friendly staff all for a fair price. I've tried the others and this is BY FAR the best casual fish n chips shop in town. We ordered a combo #3 plus one piece of fish to split between two. Everything was fantastic! I'm also pleased that I can afford to visit again, and plan on doing so! I highly recommend!
