Great find on Main Street in Santa Monica. Hinterland is a cute little restaurant on the edge of Venice & Santa Monica. The restaurant has a rustic feel to it and good ambiance. The patio seating was very comfortable. I liked the open kitchen. The food definitely surprised me. It was way tastier than I expected. Make sure to order the octopus Greek salad & vegetable side dishes. They were highlights to our meal. I wish our waitress had explained and highlighted some dishes on the menu a little better. All our dishes were cooked perfectly. I cleaned all my plates and didn't send anything back. This place is going to be busy in the summer time. I'll definitely get a whole group to come here soon. They just started brunch...I need to go there next weekend!

Best food on Main St. in Santa Monica! Great for both brunch and dinner. You won't be disappointed with the variety...some of my personal faves are the shrimp and grits, pork chop, chicken and the octopus salad is a MUST! Love that I have another brunch spot on my faves list. Highly recommend the egg and pastrami breakfast sandwich for brunch. Was down the delightfulness with a glass of bubbly rosé or wine. Friendly owners and staff and great ambience.

We had dinner at Hinterland on a Sunday night, usually the B-Team night if a restaurant is going to be trading around. Every bite of everything we ordered was delicious, unique, well thought-out and perfectly executed. Great wine and beer list. If they had a full bar I would simply never leave.

What a great new restaurant! I love Gjelina on Abbot Kinney, but this place is so much better. The space is not that big, so be sure to check it out now before everyone finds about it -- by summer, it will be packed!! The outdoor/covered-patio seating is great. It gives a very "New York" feel of being outside, when you're really inside. The ambience is somewhat rustic, which is a great contrast to the elegance and quality of the food being served. The service is fantastic, with the staff being very attentive, and making sure that each dish is delicious and satisfying. The portions are very generous, so be sure to bring a big appetite. We started with two of the salads to share. First came the Tuna Salad, which paired together delicious and fresh seared tuna with artichoke hearts and avocado. The flavors compliment each other so well. Next was the Octopus Salad, and this was AMAZING. The octopus was perfectly cooked, and served Greek-European style with cucumbers, olives, onions, and humus. I could have eaten a whole dish of this as en entree! For the main course we had the Pork Chop, and the 1/2 Chicken. Both were cooked to perfection and served steaming hot from the kitchen. The chicken is served in a delicious jus that really rounds out the dish. The skin is served crispy, and the plate includes a nice assortment of vegetables that just work so well together. The menu includes a great selection of side dishes, and my recommendation is to get at least one with each entree. We had the Grilled Jumbo Asparagus and the Mushroom Ragu & Grits. Let me say this one more time -- DON'T forget to order the side dishes! OMG, the Mushroom Ragu & Grits had incredible flavor. It was like a little taste of heaven with each bite. And I don't think I've ever had asparagus cooked as perfect as this. It was tender, yet crunchy, and topped with this incredible garlic sauce. Wow. For dessert we shared the Flourless Chocolate Cake, which was the perfect end to a fantastic meal. The ice cream and the cake together... just YUM. This is my new favorite place for the Venice area -- its right on the border of Venice and Santa Monica. Lots of street parking, and they said they will be getting valet soon. Beware of parking on the residential streets behind the restaurant, most street parking there is permit-only after 6pm.

Wonderful place right in the middle of things in Santa Monica. We've been to large party dinners here several times. Always great, which is why we keep booking here. Weekend brunch is well known here!

I don't agree with google's one $ sign and think two $$ is more appropriate. We did go for dinner so I don't know what the prices are for lunch and if it justifies the one $ sign rating. Most dishes started at $20 on up for dinner. Now that's out of the way, we had the shrimp and grits and charcuterie (duck, chicken pate, salami, pork belly). The charcuterie was great and the fruit mustard was a nice surprise. I was worried about the chorizo over powering the shrimp and grits dish but it did not and took a back seat to the dish. I did not like the shrimp used for the dish, it was rubbery and an odd flavor. I've had many renditions of S&G and this is the most unusual one I've had. They clearly use fresh ingredients and let the ingredients shine through with it's quality. I always try to keep an open mind but the S&G fell flat for me. I would imagine I would of liked it if I never had the dish before but it just didn't come together as an entrée for me. I give them four stars for the great ambiance, use of quality ingredients, and willing to forgive the S&G grits since it is my first time here. A different species of shrimp that is sweeter would probably of fixed a lot for me on that dish.

American coastal cuisine. Open space with a good low key vibe. Brunch portions were hearty and tasty. Dinner here is equally as pleasurable.

It's very simple and at the same time not. Definitely different in a good way. Good food, healthy, clean/lean, great ingredients combinations. I enjoyed it a lot for lunch with a friend.
