24 KT margarita is the best thing here. Food is okay but that drink is out of this world.
I go for the margarita and just eat an appetizer because Im drinking.
The place looks really nice. The bar and the seating outside is great.
A Tex-Mex style Mexican Restaurant, owned by this family, has been in continuous operation in Los Angeles since 1923 (when the family opened up the Sonora Café). They know what they’re doing. It’s good food, but it’s a bit of a tell that they may be more known for their margaritas than anything else.
Sweet and spicy. The first time I ate at El Cholo's was about 2.5 years ago on one of my first dates with my boyfriend. We both ordered the Green Corn Tamales - it's what we usually still order to this day. We order this same dish OVER AND OVER and have never been disappointed.
I think I've only ordered something different maybe three times...the Vegetarian Enchiladas aren't bad either. I'm not a huge fan of mushrooms and I still liked them.
But to be honest I decided to leave this review now bc my relationship is ending (boo) but my love affair with this restaurant is NOT - it's one of the few places that despite having deep memories tied to my most amazing relationship ever but can still pull me back. What can I say - I love cheese - I love Corn - and I love spice and I LOVE when it's all together!
Great fajitas and the retried beans are out of this world. The house margarita tasted like mix. Great service.
Great all around! There was 5 of us with no knowledge of the area and found El Cholo through urbanspoon. The food was excellent and the staff was very friendly and fast. No complaints here. The valets even shifted a few cars around to accomodate our 40 foot bus!
Classic L.A. Mexican food. El Cholo has been a favorite for years and I've been there dozens of times for working lunches, friendly get-togethers and family dinners. The food is consistently good and never disappointing. If I ever had to complain about anything, it would be the crowds of people trying to get in - but that's usually what happens when something is good.
I have eaten El Cholo's for decades. The number 1 is addictive as is the salsa and guacamolle. Try the Burrito Dorado. I LOVE this place!!! Great service and super place to host a gathering!
100 yrs of delicious food in a fantastic space. Late lunch outside on the patio with the Chicken Mole as a stand out offering. the Corn and green Chile tamale was great as well as the Carnitas enchilada and Relleno. be sure to ask for the Spicy salsa if ya want some heat. Excellent
We eat here every single time we visit LA. Or at one of the other locations, but the Santa Monica one has a great outdoor patio where our dog can sit with us.
Green Corn Tamales 🥰
Margaritas!
Guacamole 🥑
Chips and salsa!
Pretty much everything is good here, but those are my favorites.
This location has valet parking, but we almost always have luck parking on the street (just read the street signs carefully).
One of my other favorite things is the little pecan praline candies they give you at the end.
There’s a reason this place has been around for 100 years. Some of the best traditional Mexican food in LA - all perfectly prepared and delicious. Don’t miss the incredible sweet corn tamales (only available May - October)!
Just amazing. 100 years history. Very tasty and very fresh. Tamy was very kind and friendly. Highly recommended
Outdoor patio is great, good service, big portions, and delicious. Our table got several different dishes, all great. The guacamole and flan were great, so are the chicken taquitos. The fiesta platter appetizer is huge and you get a little of everything. The A Taste of History entre is great and gives a little of everything too.
Authentic Mexican dining, great food and service, the interior is beautiful and very roomy, they have a second floor too, a great place for a romantic dinner for too and large enough for a large party they have it all and they have other locations, definitely coming back here for more
Always fun and tasty. Great service. Fair prices. Free street parking after 6pm. Try the crabmeat enchiladas and strawberry margaritas!

My family loves this classic spot and we’ve been going here for years! My children love the quesadillas and dinosaur shaped chicken nuggets AND the fact that they have popsicles!
Recommend: Taquitos, Chicken Mole
Avoid: Margaritas, Flan
We were a huge party (16 people) but the dinner was solid! The wait staff were really confused as to who ordered what despite our waitress's best efforts, and the hostess was very curt.
The food was all solid, no complaints from anyone, but nothing stood out to me as being particularly amazing or well crafted. All just general, pretty good Americanized Mexican food.
I was told by numerous people in the party that, despite having 2-4 margaritas they didn't seem to have a buzz and a couple who had 5+ margaritas reported no hangover or ill effects, so don't expect strong mixed drinks.
I did expect more, given the stellar ratings, but the food was affordable and the restaurant was clean and well kept, so no real complaints.
Everything was very delicious, very nice place, In love with this place 🔥
Amazing personal 👍
