Don’t sit outside. Not much attention is paid to its cleanliness and it’s so close to the toilet. Disclaimer - This was my first time trying Peruvian food, so I have no frame of reference but The Leche De Tigre was good. Would have loved it slightly less tangy but that’s just my preference. The Chicha was great! That I really enjoyed, so drink away.

Very tough ceviche mixto. I don't recommend it. It's outside of my area of expertise, but I don't know if the fish was cut properly, or maybe it was older, or I'm just not used to that type of fish, but it was very tough and hard to chew. I don't usually use a knife and fork with ceviche, but I had to cut this into tiny pieces because there were very tough bits throughout the whole fish. I didn't finish it. First time I've ever not finished ceviche. Table was sticky. They catered to a special request for no calamari, which was nice, but I waited 20 minutes for a cup of water and the refill I asked for never came at all. They were out of an item on the menu but didn't say until the food was delivered and I asked about a piece that was missing. Steamed veggies were $6 but I guess that's just restaurant prices. Family like atmosphere which was nice. Atmosphere was nothing like the photos though :( Really slow service. Very dirty bathroom.

Great Peruvian restaurant in San Mateo, California It is probably the best Peruvian restaurant in this area and I have been to many around. The portion is big, hot and tasty. The price is reasonable and the service is excellent. The best thing is that they have outside seatings and take reservation.

The location is a bit off the main strip and the service is fantastic, but we didn’t really love any of the food that we ordered. We had a ceviche that was relatively good, a salad that was unique but not the best, and yucca fried chips. Overall though, I still really enjoyed this place.

The real deal. Authentic Peruvian cuisine, with great service, and good prices! The lunch is so big you get leftovers for dinner. Will be coming back.

Didn’t have much expectation coming into this restaurant, even after arriving at restaurant, outside look or peaking inside from door wasn’t too impressive, BUT food was surprisingly great. There is nice dining room inside, tried Seafood Paella, Seafood squid ink pasta, lamb, antipasto plates, ceviche all very tasty. I did not try myself, but I heard steak was “ok”. Plan to come back very soon.

I've been to this place many times. I like their rotisserie chicken. They have especial offers on the weekends for chicken to go. I think their Rotisserie chicken is better than the one that El limón serves. About their ceviche, I've tried the tilapia one and it wasn't my favorite. I wish they had more light at the back and another type of decoration. The place is not that full so you don't need to make reservations. On the weekends they have buffets with a wide offer of dishes.

Tried this place for the first time and everything was fantastic! A small, unassuming restaurant nestled between neighborhood markets and taquerias, this was a great find! Dinner started out with fresh bread and a trio of unknown but all around delicious dipping sauces. I went with the paella (one of my favorite things to get if it's on the menu), while my husband got the ceviche entree - both portions were enormous! My paella was one of the best I've ever tasted! I would definitely travel back to San Mateo for another heaping plate!
